Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 157: The One with Bad Intentions Is You
Vera Yves was just about to say something when Zoe Monroe already rushed over at lightning speed.
"Smack!" A loud slap landed on Theodore Xavier’s face.
Everything around them fell silent.
Theodore Xavier touched his cheek, and the woman beside him was startled, asking concernedly, "Theodore, are you okay?"
"Shut up!" Zoe Monroe glanced at the woman, "Don’t you know he has a girlfriend? Going out for drinks with a man who has a girlfriend in the middle of the night, your intentions aren’t pure!"
The woman looked somewhat embarrassed by her words, "You must have misunderstood..."
"Misunderstood what?" Zoe Monroe looked at Theodore Xavier’s hand resting on the woman’s waist, "I have eyes, I can see for myself, you two clearly..."
"Zoe Monroe, a little capriciousness is playful." Theodore Xavier interrupted her, "Too much of it comes off as lacking restraint, making people find it dull, understand?"
His words seemed to quiet the whole environment.
Vera Yves tugged at Zoe Monroe, noticing Theodore Xavier in formal attire, and the group behind him appeared to be clients, not the usual group of friends he hung out with.
"I’m boring, aren’t you good at finding fun yourself?" Zoe Monroe’s head was still spinning, "If you can’t handle me, then I’ll find someone who can serve me, after all, I’m already a five-star king in the game! Let’s not hold each other back, breakup, bye-bye!"
Zoe Monroe nearly stumbled, but Vera Yves caught her.
As they passed by the crowd, Linda Young gave Zoe Monroe a thumbs up. Zoe leaned on Vera, her head still dizzy.
They reached the first-floor lobby.
They encountered another group of people coming out of the elevator, including both men and women, who had obviously just finished a dinner party. Miles Monroe’s cheeks were slightly red; he seemed to have drunk a lot.
His gaze fell on Vera Yves, and for a moment, he thought it was his imagination.
Zoe Monroe was already completely drunk, and Linda Young could barely stand. Vera Yves took a deep breath, "Zoe is drunk."
Miles Monroe finally snapped out of it, quickly walked over, and pulled Zoe Monroe away from Vera’s arms. Vera sighed in relief, "You take her home, I’ve called a driving service, I’ll take Linda home in a moment."
Miles Monroe held Zoe Monroe, speaking softly, "I’ll take you all home since it’s on my way."
Vera Yves was about to refuse when a voice sounded, "No need, Counselor Monroe is probably not going the same way."
Winston Valentine walked straight to Vera Yves, fixing his gaze on Miles Monroe, he said to Vera, "I came specifically to pick you up, wherever you go, it’s on my way."
Smelling the faint alcohol wafting from him, Vera Yves frowned, "Didn’t I tell you, you can’t drink while you’re on medication."
"There was a social event at night, I just had a few drinks." Winston Valentine lowered his voice, "I promise to listen to you from now on, absolutely no more drinking, okay?" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Miles Monroe glanced at Winston Valentine, "Drinking while on medication, at best, reduces the effectiveness of the medication, at worst, it can harm the body. President Valentine, you aren’t ignorant of this basic knowledge, are you?"
"Why would I need such knowledge?" Winston Valentine looked at Vera Yves warmly, "Anyway, Vera will remind me when she’s by my side."
Miles Monroe said coldly, "It’s because of patients like you who aren’t self-aware that the current doctor-patient relationship is so tense."
Winston Valentine moved a little closer to Vera Yves, "Between Vera and me, it’s not a simple doctor-patient relationship."
"Besides taking advantage of gratitude, what else can you do?"
"At least I have the advantage of gratitude. What does Counselor Monroe have? An ex-girlfriend?"
The air instantly became very quiet.
Vera Yves felt a severe headache as she supported Linda Young out of the hall.
Miles Monroe grabbed her wrist, "I’ll take you."
"No need." Vera Yves pulled her hand back.
Winston Valentine glanced at Miles Monroe, smirked slightly, and followed her out.
Vera Yves walked to the front of the clubhouse, Winston Valentine caught up and stood in front of her, "I’ll take you home."
Vera Yves glanced at him, "Move aside!"
Seeing her displeased expression, Winston Valentine finally stepped aside.
Vera Yves was just about to help Linda Young find a car when Winston Valentine suddenly walked over, grabbing Linda and shoving her into the passenger seat.
Linda Young shifted uncomfortably.
Vera Yves looked at Winston Valentine in disbelief, "What are you trying to do?"
The next second, Winston Valentine picked her up directly and placed her in the car. Vera tried to get out on the other side, but Winston pressed her hand down, "You’re a single woman hiring a driving service so late at night. What if he has bad intentions?"
Vera Yves struggled hard, glaring at him, "I think the one with bad intentions is you!"
Winston Valentine held her down, "It’s good that you know, so be good and listen, otherwise I’ll kiss you."
Vera Yves looked at him angrily, "Winston Valentine, what exactly do you want from me?"
"Just to take you home." Winston Valentine said calmly, "You’re my attending physician now. If something happens to you, who’s going to treat my illness? I don’t want to be disabled for life."
Hearing the word "disabled," Vera Yves stopped struggling.
Miles Monroe, supporting Zoe Monroe, came out just in time to see a black car disappearing into the night, with no sign of Vera Yves around.
Winston Valentine first had the driver take them to Linda Young’s residential area.
Linda was mostly sober by then. Vera wanted to walk her upstairs, but she waved her off.
The car headed to the clinic.
Winston Valentine suddenly extended his hand toward her, "I feel like my hand has regained some strength lately."
Vera Yves looked at his sincere expression and reached out to hold his right hand, "Squeeze it."
Winston Valentine applied some pressure.
Vera Yves continued, "Use your full strength."
Winston Valentine tightened his grip.
Vera Yves winced as her hand started to hurt, "There is indeed progress."
Winston Valentine felt the warmth of her palm and was reluctant to let go, and then heard her say, "Winston, according to the treatment plan I devised for you, it’s tough to return to your previous state. I still suggest you look for a more specialized doctor; there might be better results."
Winston Valentine’s eyes dimmed a little, "You want to give up on me?"
"If you want me to treat you, be it one year or two years, I have no reason to refuse." Vera Yves said in a calm voice, "But if you want something else from me, I have nothing to give you."
Winston Valentine slowly let go of her hand, one year, two years? Vera, I’m much greedier than you think, I want your whole life.
The car stopped at the clinic entrance. Winston watched Vera walk inside, and after a long time, when the lights inside went off, he instructed the driver to take him back to the villa.
He arrived at the villa gate to see Cecilia Vaughn standing outside.
Winston Valentine led her into the villa.
Cecilia Vaughn looked haggard, she gazed at Winston’s back, hoarsely explaining, "Aaron Chandler and I aren’t boyfriend and girlfriend. I was devastated when I heard you were getting married, I drank a lot, and that’s how that one-night mistake happened. You know, for so many years, you’re the only one I’ve loved."
Winston Valentine turned to look at her, "I don’t care."
One sentence forced all the explanations Cecilia wanted to give back into her throat. He didn’t care; she was no longer in his heart.
"Since you know nothing happened between us that night, why didn’t you expose me at the time?"
Winston Valentine stepped up to her, "Why do you think that is?"
"You’re not sure?" Cecilia Vaughn clenched her fists, "Or, are you using me?"
Winston Valentine looked at her, his gaze cold and indifferent, "Use you for what?"
