Too Late to Love Her: When She Divorced, He Fell Apart-Chapter 107: At Least You Two Were Married
On Valentine’s Day...
Isn’t that the day Joy Sharp caught the two of them?
Claire felt a drop in her heart, thinking of how Joy cried so sadly in front of her afterward, and she felt it was such a shame for her.
Dylan Skinner saw she wasn’t in the mood to continue, checked the time, and said, "It’s getting late; let me take you home, sister."
Claire did not refuse.
When she got home, she saw Tina Hayes had shared a Weibo post in their group chat. Wasn’t that the news of Tristan Lockwood and Zoey Adler’s date?
Tina mentioned her, asking: "[Tristan Lockwood is being this brazen about cheating now?]"
Joy Sharp commented: "[President Hale told me earlier she’s divorcing Tristan Lockwood.]"
She even specifically "patted" her.
Seeing Joy’s name made Claire think of Dylan’s words, her emotions becoming complicated, even regretting the words she had advised Joy Sharp before.
At the last Jennings’ birthday party, Jude Jacobs attended with Joy Sharp, and anyone with keen eyes could see their relationship wasn’t shallow. Despite this, Jared Jennings introduced his family to Jude, clearly showing he didn’t see Joy Sharp as important.
Most importantly, Jude Jacobs’ heart was clearly leaning away from Joy Sharp.
After all, being so young and having opportunities to cross social circles, anyone wouldn’t easily give up.
By the time Claire came back to reality, there were already dozens of messages in the chat, all from Tina Hayes asking if she had truly divorced.
Claire replied with a simple yes.
The chat suddenly fell silent.
A minute later, Tina Hayes lit up the chat with fireworks, saying: "[Congratulations President Hale on breaking free. To celebrate, I’m hosting a spa day this weekend for us!]"
Claire was surprised: "[Even the stingy rooster is plucking feathers?]"
Tina stomped her foot, saying: "[No choice, with one of you losing a marriage and the other a relationship, coming to work this past month felt like a funeral. I have to sacrifice once.]"
Tina really went all out this time, booking the most expensive spa hotel around Riverbend. Early on the weekend, she drove her little BYD to pick up Joy from her apartment and then sent Claire a voice message: "Successfully met with the heartbroken girl, hurry and send your location, newly divorced lady."
Claire sent her home address over.
Tina glanced at it and couldn’t help teasing, "Isn’t this the complex next to our company? President Hale, you’re so passionate about work, why not just live at the office."
Claire replied, "If I lived at the office, you and Joy would have to join me, working overtime together as sisters."
Upon mentioning work, Tina became silent; for the past month, Claire had become the embodiment of a capitalist demon, endlessly exploiting them.
At the time, she was puzzled, wondering who had offended their boss; turns out it was because of the divorce.
After arriving at Claire’s complex, Tina parked the car and, with Joy, wandered around Claire’s home.
This apartment was less than a hundred square meters, more than enough for one person. Entering, Tina noticed the empty room and asked instinctively, "President Hale, do you live alone?"
Claire was pulling her luggage out, glanced at her and said, "What, hoping to find a man here?"
"Of course not." Tina said meanderingly, "Now that you’re divorced, with such a big apartment, I thought you lived with your parents."
Her words just fell when Joy tugged at her sleeve, blinking and motioning at her.
Tina looked at Joy curiously, "Why are you pulling me?"
Joy: "..."
"I don’t have parents."
Claire suddenly spoke flatly.
Tina paused, being straightforward as usual, unlike Joy, she asked directly, "President Hale, are you an orphan?"
"..."
Claire looked at her, "My mom killed herself when I was six, my dad died in a car crash when I was eight."
Tina genuinely hadn’t expected Claire’s background to be so tragic.
Seeing the sorrow in Tina’s eyes, Claire said nonchalantly, "No need to feel sorry for me, I’m used to days without relatives."
"No relatives? Your grandparents or maternal grandparents weren’t there for you?"
After asking, Tina noticed Claire’s expression turned colder, thinking to herself how uncontrollable her mouth was.
However, Claire candidly said, "I was taken to the Lockwood Family at twelve."
"So you and Tristan Lockwood were childhood friends?" Tina was truly shocked, "You two are perhaps as close as Joy and Jude Jacobs; they fell apart but at least you two got married."
Joy was really fed up with Tina’s nonsense, and said with exasperation, "Tina Hayes, you just can’t avoid mentioning me in everything, right?"
Tina chuckled twice, "This is my pain therapy method, poking your pain points frequently will make you numb to them."
Joy couldn’t help rolling her eyes at her.
Claire put the suitcase in the car trunk, her face thoughtful.
Despite Tina’s crudeness, there was truth in her words.
She and Tristan had indeed spent a long time together. If she hadn’t clung to unwarranted thoughts around him, perhaps they could’ve been good siblings.
However, ever since she entered the Lockwood Family, Tristan had always been this icy; he didn’t like talking or interacting with her much.
She knew his change of character stemmed from the car accident involving Tristan’s mother.
Really, not just towards her, Tristan was cold and indifferent to nearly everyone; in truth, she was probably his most unique presence.
They both lost their parents early, devoid of family, they became each other’s longest companions.
Yet the longest companionship was also the longest hurt.
Understanding one another means knowing exactly how to hurt the other in the most painful and direct way...
...
Tina booked a suite at the hotel for the three of them to stay together.
While changing into their bathing robes, Tina glanced at Claire, marveling, "President Hale, you’re really something. Tristan Lockwood divorcing you is truly his loss."
Joy looked at herself enviously, asking, "President Hale, how do you maintain yourself?" 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
"Growing freely, I don’t really know."
Claire’s ears felt a bit hot, not because she felt offended, just that she hadn’t many friends before, and those jokes among girlfriends she’d only heard from afar, never participated.
Tina asked so boldly, it truly made her a bit embarrassed.
After donning their robes, the three headed to the spa together.
Except, Claire hadn’t expected to run into Sean Lockwood.
He was wearing a dark, loose robe, standing by the spa pool, seemingly just finished soaking, his hair slightly damp.
Sean turned his head, happening to spot her too.
