Too Late to Love Her: When She Divorced, He Fell Apart-Chapter 108: I Can’t Accept You as My Uncle
He naturally beckoned to her.
The posture was as if he was waiting for her to pay respects.
Claire Hale stood there for a few seconds, thought about it, and still walked over, greeting him politely yet distantly: "President Lockwood."
Sean Lockwood assessed her up and down for a while, his gaze sweeping over her chest.
Although Claire was wearing a bathrobe, the neckline of the bathrobe was wide and loose, and inside was a swimsuit, inevitably revealing a bit more than intended.
She tightened her neckline, and her gaze towards Sean grew colder.
Sean said, "It seems after your divorce from Tristan, you’re in a pretty good mood, your complexion is rosy, and you even have time to soak in the hot spring."
"Aren’t you the same, President Lockwood?" Claire smiled without reaching her eyes, "The Lockwood Group’s stock prices these days must be as red as New Year’s."
Sean raised an eyebrow, not denying it.
Indeed, he’s been in a good mood these days.
With the news of the Lockwood Family and the Adler Family intending to form an alliance, the partners were eager to come knocking.
He even changed his usual concise style and started chatting about domestic trivia with her, "I used to think you felt deeply for Tristan, but now it seems, perhaps it wasn’t that deep."
Claire’s eyes flickered, "What else? Did you want to see me having some dramatic reaction, considering suicide? Or pining away, unable to eat or drink for Tristan?"
Sean stared at her for two seconds before saying, "If I remember correctly, you and Tristan have known each other for over ten years."
Claire responded with a soft hum.
"In a lifetime, there aren’t many ten-year spans. Even if you’re divorced from him, there’s no need to sever all ties. After all, to my father and Auntie Heather, you’re still their granddaughter."
Sean paused, looking at her, and said, "Since you’re their granddaughter, you’re naturally a niece to me. If there’s anything within reason that needs looking after, you can tell me."
Claire: "..."
So he was trying to force the role of an elder on her after all this.
She curved her lips without much humor, "I will naturally visit Grandpa and Grandma regularly, but I can’t afford this ’uncle’ of yours."
She hadn’t forgotten how he used her back then to find Jade Sutton.
Sean didn’t say much more, quickly withdrawing his gaze from her.
Just as Claire was about to leave, she suddenly heard footsteps behind her. However, before she could turn around, she was suddenly pushed at the waist.
Caught off guard, she couldn’t react in time and fell straight into the hot spring pool.
Sean, noticing something wrong with her posture, reached out to hook her waist, trying to pull her back.
But Claire’s center of gravity had already shifted downward, so they both fell into the pool together.
The hot spring pool wasn’t deep, so falling wouldn’t drown someone, but the impact of the water was considerable, easily bruising the body.
Moreover, the commotion was so loud that many people around looked over.
Claire originally thought that falling would leave her whole body in pain for a while. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
But unexpectedly, a large hand hooked around her waist, and she was held in an embrace.
Sean took the brunt of the impact for her.
As they struggled out of the water, she opened her eyes to find herself against a firm chest.
Lifting her head, she met Sean’s deep, dark eyes.
His hot masculine breath brushed against her ear, the pressure more intense than usual.
She quickly avoided his eyes, stepped back, and her waist slipped from Sean’s hand.
With little emotion, Sean calmly got out of the pool and reached out to her: "Come up and check if you’re injured."
Claire paused, about to reach out for support, but a slender white arm suddenly pulled Sean back.
Claire lifted her eyes to meet the bright face of a woman.
She had a good memory and naturally recognized that the woman before her was Luna Quinn, the sister of Nathan Quinn, and a previous favored prospect of Sean.
Luna looked down at her without the slightest intention of reaching out to help.
Claire averted her gaze, climbed out by herself, and as she passed by Luna, she felt an inexplicable hostility.
She frowned slightly.
She and Luna weren’t even acquaintances, why such hostility?
Sean walked over and asked, "Were you hurt by the fall?"
Claire shook her head.
At the same time, she felt Luna casting a hostile glance her way.
However, as she scanned the area to find who pushed her, she immediately spotted Kiara Vance following behind Luna, glaring at her maliciously.
She asked Kiara, "Were you the one who pushed me just now?"
"What nonsense are you talking?" Kiara sneered at her, "You just weren’t being careful and fell in yourself, and now you’re trying to blame me? What, you’re without Tristan as your pillar now, and you’re trying to seduce our sister Luna’s boyfriend?"
As she spoke, Kiara intimately linked arms with Luna in a coquettish manner, "Sister Luna, you saw the photos on Elder Lockwood’s birthday too. This woman is quite adept at seducing men, doesn’t turn anyone away."
On Byron Lockwood’s birthday, both she and Luna were present, and naturally, they saw those photos of Claire that came out.
It’s just that Tristan had warned publicly that anyone spreading them would be going against the Lockwood family, so she kept quiet and didn’t dare to speak out. When she heard that Tristan and Claire had divorced, she couldn’t resist taunting Claire when she saw her.
Luna didn’t pay much attention to Kiara, just looked at Claire and said, "Miss Hale’s reputation has spread through the circle. For your own sake, shouldn’t you maintain some distance from Sean?"
Claire frowned, shooting a cold glance at the two of them. Just as she was about to turn and leave, Sean casually spoke up, "Who I maintain my distance from is not for you to dictate."
As he said this, he didn’t look at Claire.
His deep dark eyes were fixed intently on Luna.
Luna’s face changed, and she bit her lip, asking, "Sean, what do you mean?"
Sean, composed and at ease, said calmly, "Even if Claire is divorced from Tristan, she is still my father’s and Auntie Heather’s precious granddaughter, making her my niece. As her uncle, taking care of my niece is somehow seen as an illicit act in your eyes. You look at our Lockwood family with such colored glasses, I’d like to ask what you mean by that?"
He paused, then looked at Luna and said, "And also, I particularly dislike women who lack a sense of boundary. You and I are merely getting to know each other. Yet you’re presuming to be my girlfriend and directing who I should associate with. You’re the one overstepping."
After saying this, he didn’t bother looking at Luna’s increasingly displeased expression, he withdrew his gaze, looked at Claire, and said calmly, "Your hair is wet, go inside and dry it off."
Claire pursed her lips, glanced at Luna who was glaring at her, and then turned to head inside.
Sean followed her with his steps, but Luna blocked his way, "You’re willing to fall out with me for her?"
