Too Late to Love Her: When She Divorced, He Fell Apart-Chapter 109: If You Don’t Want Money, How About Something Else?
Sean Lockwood rubbed his temples, a hint of annoyance flickering in his eyes.
Luna Quinn saw it and her heart sank instantly, her whole body stiffening.
During the time she had known Sean Lockwood, he had always been polite, gentlemanly and gentle, never saying a harsh word, let alone showing her such an expression.
"I’ll explain to your parents. As for you and me, let’s just end it here."
After Sean Lockwood finished speaking, he left without looking back.
Luna Quinn stood frozen in place, her eyes reddening as she watched his heartless back, then looked further away at Claire’s back, a blatant loathing flickering in her eyes.
Kiara Vance saw this, walked over and said with agitation, "Luna, look, I wasn’t lying to you. Claire is just a seductress. The accusations made by that woman at the banquet that day are truly not false."
Luna Quinn said coldly, "What right does she have?"
"Because of that face," Kiara said, "Otherwise, why are both Tristan Lockwood and Jenson Jennings so good to her? Luna, I heard Nathan say that Jenson used to be good only to you. When you weren’t in Riverbend, I saw several times how she kept pestering Jenson nonstop."
Hearing Jenson’s name, Luna Quinn’s face sank a few more shades.
Not far away, Zoey Adler stood beside Tristan Lockwood, watching the drama unfold with interest and said, "Your little uncle seems to have ditched Miss Quinn because of Miss Hale."
Even though she couldn’t hear what they were saying, the expression on those people’s faces told her a great deal.
Tristan Lockwood glanced at her without any expression.
Zoey Adler froze for a moment, unsure if she was mistaken, but she felt that Tristan Lockwood’s indifferent eyes were as cold as ice.
Just now, she had carefully observed that Claire’s neck was bare, without any adornments, and so she said, "I initially thought you were interested in Miss Hale, but considering that she isn’t wearing the necklace you bought the other day, I guess I was wrong."
As soon as she finished speaking, the aura around Tristan Lockwood grew colder.
He looked at her coldly and said, "No matter who it is, it’ll never be you."
"That’s not necessarily true." Zoey Adler laughed with self-confidence, "You were willing to bring me to the hot springs, so I think there’s still a chance."
Besides, she wouldn’t be as silly as Luna Quinn.
She hadn’t even confirmed anything with Sean Lockwood, but already tried to involve herself in everything. No wonder men found it annoying.
Tristan Lockwood glanced at her indifferently and then turned to step towards the lobby.
Zoey Adler followed quickly, and after a few steps, she saw Tristan Lockwood pause and his gaze fell elsewhere.
Following his gaze, she saw Sean Lockwood holding a hair dryer, drying Claire’s hair.
"Tsk, I was about to say Miss Hale is quite the reserved one, turns out she’s playing hard to get."
Zoey couldn’t help but tease.
But soon enough, she sensed that something wasn’t right.
Tristan Lockwood stood there, staring at the two like a frozen sculpture, motionless.
Claire noticed someone staring at her and raised her eyes, meeting Tristan Lockwood’s cold gaze.
She paused for a moment, her gaze somewhat complex, but she quickly looked away, turning her body away from him and standing up to say to Sean Lockwood, "My hair is dry, thank you, President Lockwood."
Sean Lockwood glanced at her still dripping strands and then looked at her right arm, saying, "Does your arm still hurt?"
When Claire had fallen earlier, although Sean Lockwood had shielded her, her arm had hit the rock, and only now did the pain start to register.
She shrank back and shook her head, saying, "It doesn’t hurt."
Sean Lockwood nodded, "Let’s go."
Claire nodded, then suddenly thought of something and said, "About Miss Quinn, shouldn’t President Lockwood still explain a bit?"
Sean Lockwood’s expression turned a shade darker, "Are you teaching me to do things now?"
"I wouldn’t dare."
Claire lowered her eyes.
"I just think Miss Quinn will be very angry, mistakenly believing you’re breaking up with her because of me. If she takes it out on me, then I’ll suffer undeservedly."
Sean Lockwood found her words amusing and asked, "Isn’t it because of you?"
"Of course not."
Claire replied adamantly.
Sean Lockwood seemed intrigued and raised an eyebrow, "How is it not?"
Claire raised her eyes to stare at him, thinking isn’t this a rhetorical question?
However, Sean Lockwood patiently waited for her to speak, and after some hesitation, Claire said embarrassedly, "If I’m not mistaken, President Lockwood had long wanted to break things off with Miss Quinn but refrained due to family considerations. Then conveniently, because of this incident with me, he used me as an excuse, right?"
Sean Lockwood smiled noncommittally and said, "I’ll pay you some money when we go back, consider it your hardship pay."
"There’s no need."
Claire refused him without hesitation and said,
"You’ve already used me once regarding Jade Sutton. Now, in Luna Quinn’s affair, you’re using me again. President Lockwood, even if you’re shearing sheep, don’t keep targeting just me. Miss Quinn’s temper clearly isn’t friendly, and I don’t want to offend her."
"Then what should we do?" Sean Lockwood asked, "Words once spoken are like spilled water; there’s no taking them back. I can only compensate you now; if you don’t want money, then ask for something else?"
"..."
Claire raised her eyes to meet Sean Lockwood’s deep, smiling gaze.
His eyes were dark, and when he seriously focused on a person, he looked remarkably similar to Tristan Lockwood.
She paused slightly, moved her gaze away, and decided to stay away from this scheming man, walking away without looking back.
Sean Lockwood watched her departing back, a barely noticeable smile forming at the corner of his mouth.
Now he somewhat understood why Tristan Lockwood kept Claire around for so many years; raising this prickly hedgehog was indeed quite interesting.
Once Sean Lockwood withdrew his gaze from Claire, the smile on his face vanished. However, as he turned, he saw Tristan Lockwood not far away, glaring at him with displeasure.
...
After changing into a bathrobe, Claire was about to return to the hot spring pool to find Tina Hayes and Joy Sharp, but she saw Tina Hayes coming in alone, pounding her chest in frustration. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
"Where’s Joy? Weren’t you with her?" Claire asked.
Tina Hayes said, exasperated, "She’s been struck by love again; as soon as Jude Jacobs apologized, she forgave him."
"Jude Jacobs?" Claire was surprised, "He’s here too?"
"It’s not just him," Tina Hayes said, "Nathan Quinn and Jenson Jennings are also here. I heard them say Tristan Lockwood has come too."
Claire paused for a moment and asked, "Didn’t Jude bring another woman?"
Tina Hayes said, "He claimed the woman Joy saw before was introduced by the company’s leadership, and he couldn’t directly refuse. He clarified things with her this month and then came back to find her."
Claire frowned, the story Tina Hayes told was very different from the version she heard from Dylan Skinner.
