Chapter 145: Chapter 145: Was President Lockwood Satisfied with My Performance?

Luna Quinn’s beautiful, delicate brows were tightly furrowed, her voice full of disdain.

Claire Hale’s expression remained indifferent as she said, "Sean invited me here. How come you’re here, Miss Luna?"

Luna’s face changed slightly, "Impossible! It’s his birthday today. What gives you the right to come looking for him?"

It’s Sean’s birthday today too?

Though surprised, Claire maintained a cool demeanor in front of Luna.

"If Miss Luna has time to mind others’ business, why not call the insurance company earlier? That would be practical."

She glanced at her own BMW with a badly smashed front.

"You’re rich and can use a Porsche as scrap metal to crash. I only have this car; if it really gets damaged, you’ll be liable."

Luna was momentarily stunned.

She didn’t expect Claire to be so sharp-tongued.

Last time at the hot spring hotel, she saw her hardly speaking and thought she was just a gentle, soft little rabbit luring others.

She didn’t expect her to be capable of biting.

This fiery temper of hers was aggravated by Claire’s retort, making her flare up even more and she sarcastically said, "Is that how you latch onto Nathan and Jenson to deal with me?"

Claire raised her eyelids to look at her.

Seems like Jenson was pretty efficient; he found Luna quickly.

Seeing her tacitly acknowledge, Luna got even angrier, sneering coldly and said, "You really are a despicable thing climbing up by relying on men. That law firm of yours, you got by sleeping with Tristan Lockwood, didn’t you? Now that Tristan’s dumped you, you’ve shifted your target to seduce Sean?"

Claire was not in the mood to argue with Luna.

She casually glanced at her, saying, "Isn’t Miss Luna also trying to seduce President Lockwood? You’re venting your anger on me because President Lockwood doesn’t wish to see you?"

She looked at Luna’s extravagant red outfit, smiled lightly, and continued, "Miss Proud and Precious Luna, turns out you too have moments where you spare everything to please a man."

This sentence struck a chord in Luna, raising her hand ready to slap Claire.

Claire was quick-eyed and quick-handed, stepped back, and grabbed her hand forcefully.

Luna’s pain wrinkled her brow.

"A person doesn’t fall in the same place twice."

Claire stared coldly at her.

"Miss Luna tricked me once, I will never let your hand slap my face again. If you still have any feelings for Jenson, you’d better not lay a hand on me. Otherwise, Jenson will be very disappointed in you."

With that, she forcefully let go of Luna’s arm.

Luna staggered, took a few steps back, leaned her hand on the Porsche’s hood, and her messy black curls scattered over her shoulders, making her look quite embarrassed.

She glanced at her arm, red from Claire’s grip, and with a slight curve of her red lips, said, "So you think pulling out Jenson can really suppress me?"

Then she looked toward the villa behind, where there was no sign of any movement.

Her smile deepened.

"Since you like being used like a gun, keep staying here, goodbye."

With these words, Luna’s figure, stepped on her high heels, returned to the Porsche and drove away arrogantly.

Claire, with an unchanged expression, drove her car into the garage before walking to the villa’s door.

The door opened simultaneously, and Sean walked out unhurriedly.

Today he wasn’t wearing a suit; his deep blue trench coat and black pants with boots added to his steady nature a bit of unexpected wildness.

But at this moment, Claire wasn’t in any mood to admire him.

She said with a rather cool tone, "Did President Lockwood find my performance satisfactory just now?"

Sean raised an eyebrow, "What performance?"

She smirked, "Why is President Lockwood playing dumb with me? You made me rush to your house early in the morning, just to help you drive Miss Luna away, didn’t you?"

He wouldn’t need to offend anyone either.

Sean asked her, "You’re not happy about it? Didn’t she cause you trouble before? Creating a chance for you to win back some face isn’t good either?"

"Thank you for that."

Trying to one-up him was harder than climbing a mountain.

Sean looked at her expression, her cold gaze filled with a bit of unwillingness, she seemed genuinely angry.

He turned toward the garage, drove out a Volkswagen Phaeton, gesturing for Claire to get in.

Claire, sitting in the car this time, carefully observed the interior. Although luxurious with top-notch configuration, it was quite dated compared to Sean’s other luxurious cars.

"Still upset about what happened just now?"

Sean’s low voice suddenly sounded.

"No."

Claire answered without thinking.

When she realized Sean had used her to drive away Luna, she was indeed quite riled up for a moment.

After all, nobody likes being used by others.

But anger aside, she couldn’t do anything against him, sulking would be bad for her health, and there was no need for it.

However, Claire thought for a moment and added, "Next time President Lockwood runs into such a situation and wants to use me, it’ll be a different price."

"So today doesn’t count?"

"Consider it an act of charity."

Claire turned to look at him, paused, and said, "Isn’t today your birthday too? Consider it my birthday gift for you."

Sean’s eyes twinkled and his lips curled, "It’s the first time I’ve received such a special birthday gift."

Claire: "It’s the first time I’ve given someone such a special birthday gift too."

"So what did you use to give Tristan for his birthday?"

As Sean’s words fell, the smile on Claire’s face faded a bit.

Since she was adopted by the Lockwood Family, every year on Tristan’s birthday, she would prepare a gift for him.

Starting with her very first paycheck, to now, earning from the law firm.

Every gift she gave Tristan was her most cherished sentiment.

However, these sentiments came to an abrupt halt at Tristan’s birthday party today.

She would no longer rack her brains for his birthday.

"Did President Lockwood specifically have me accompany you for the day, also because today is your birthday?"

Claire diverted the topic by asking.

"Yes."

His answer was somewhat absent-minded; when his eyes swept the rearview mirror, he caught her somewhat puzzled gaze, and said, "Want to ask something?"

Claire: "You’re a big figure, on such an important day like your birthday, isn’t there any birthday party celebration?"

Your nephew has a birthday party every year.

Sean glanced at her lightly and said, "Except for those years overseas developing projects, I haven’t celebrated my birthday. Nobody remembers, and there’s no need."

His tone was quite nonchalant, and Claire remembered that Sean was Elder Lockwood’s illegitimate son; his birth might’ve initially not been well-received.

As for those years abroad Sean mentioned, Claire suddenly thought that during those years he might have celebrated his birthday as he mentioned, leading his own team.

"Was Jared around during your previous birthdays?" Claire asked.

Sean’s hand gripping the steering wheel paused slightly, "You’re very interested in Jared?"
