Chapter 144: Chapter 144: She Listens to You More

"I’m not going."

Claire refused outright without even thinking.

"Also, I’m not your sister-in-law, Nathan, stop calling me that."

Nathan Quinn exclaimed, quickly apologizing: "Oh, my bad, I’ve been calling you that for years and can’t change it, unless you and Tristan get remarried, then I won’t change it."

"..."

Claire was too tired to argue with Nathan and directly hung up the phone.

Nathan listened to the heartless busy tone from the phone, shrugged helplessly at Jenson Jennings next to him, and said, "See, I told you she wouldn’t come, Jenson, I think you shouldn’t meddle anymore and try to matchmake. Claire and Tristan probably really have a case of being connected but not destined."

Jenson looked at him softly: "You call her sister-in-law quite smoothly yourself."

"I just call her that quietly a couple of times. Besides, I feel like last time they broke up was definitely Tristan’s fault. Not giving her a proper title, then ditching her after she got invested. If it were me, I wouldn’t come either."

Nathan paused, then said, "Why don’t you try to persuade her, she listens to you more."

Jenson thought about it and went to Claire’s office the next day to find her.

Claire immediately rejected him upon hearing it was about attending Tristan’s birthday: "Jenson, why are you like Nathan, talking about things that make me unhappy."

Jenson smiled warmly: "Even if you’re not together with Tristan anymore, nominally, he counts as your brother. It’s not inappropriate for a sister to celebrate her brother’s birthday, right? Besides, you’ve been there for his birthdays for over ten years, it will feel different for him with you not there this year."

"He’ll probably enjoy himself more with me not there."

Claire replied unconcernedly.

"Don’t waste your time with me, I won’t be attending the birthday party. Plus, on the phone last time, you said he really has no feelings for me. I’m not about to embarrass myself over something so obvious."

Jenson tried to say more, but Claire waved him off, stopping him: "Jenson, if you’re still my friend, then stop trying to persuade me."

With her words, Jenson could only give up.

As he was about to leave, he added one more thing: "Tristan mentioned to me once, he said, it wasn’t you who got ditched. Do you know what that means?"

Claire paused, then smiled: "That’s what he said, not me. If you want to know what it means, ask him yourself."

Jenson watched her for a moment, suddenly realizing what Tristan’s comment about her not being the one who got ditched meant.

He didn’t continue, turned to leave.

"Wait a minute."

Claire suddenly called out to him.

Jenson, surprised, turned back with hope: "You changed your mind?"

"No." Claire had thought of something else, "Luna Quinn is Nathan’s sister, I hear your relationship with her is quite good."

Jenson acknowledged it, not denying.

Claire: "Recently, she interfered with my office affairs, did you know about this?"

Jenson’s brow furrowed, clearly uninformed of the situation.

"I’ll admit, compared to Miss Luna I may lack skill, but calling Dean Dawson to follow and insult me, I don’t want to let that go."

This incident had lingered in her mind, and with Jenson and Nathan coming to see her, she couldn’t pass up venting.

"Jenson, although you and Nathan are Tristan’s good friends, I’ve known you all for years. Even if our friendship isn’t as deep as yours with Tristan, you wouldn’t watch me get bullied, would you?"

Claire roughly explained the details of Dean’s harassment during that period.

Even though Dean was dealt with by Tristan, Luna who orchestrated it behind the scenes acted as if nothing happened.

Jenson felt his heart sink, his expression turning serious.

He said, "I’ll verify this clearly, and if you were truly wronged, I’ll have Luna apologize to you."

"No need for apologies."

Claire didn’t want to continue dealing with people who harmed her.

"Just ensure she doesn’t bother me again, and I’ll be grateful."

...

On the weekend, Claire went as planned to Sean Lockwood’s house.

Sean asked her to accompany him for the day, though what specifically, he hadn’t said, and Claire was busy with work, not having the mindset to inquire.

With two people already unfamiliar, spending the day together was slightly uncomfortable for Claire.

Whenever dealing with Sean, she consistently found herself at a disadvantage.

Entering Sean’s upscale residential area required reporting, and as Claire drove in, the guard glimpsed at her BMW and murmured, "There’s quite the influx of beauties visiting President Lockwood today."

Claire paused: "What?" 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

The guard recognized her from a previous encounter and unreservedly responded, "Someone in a Porsche also visited President Lockwood ten minutes ago."

Claire found it odd that Sean hadn’t informed her of another guest’s visit.

She thought she might be intruding on them, which would be inappropriate.

As she contemplated this, Sean suddenly called.

Claire was grateful for being invited and didn’t hesitate to answer quickly.

Sean’s deep voice came through: "You’re late."

Claire glanced at the time, finding she was a minute late.

This man has quite the time obsession.

"I’ve just entered your community, I’ll be right there." She recalled the guard’s words and asked, "President Lockwood must have guests now, should I wait downstairs?"

"Guests?"

Sean’s tone sounded puzzled.

Claire paused, but lifting her gaze, she soon spotted Sean’s visitor.

Parked outside was a red Porsche, Luna Quinn stood gracefully in front of it in a red dress and heels.

Quite the eye-catching display.

Claire glanced at Luna in her car, saying, "Miss Luna is downstairs at your place."

Sean fell silent for two seconds, then said, "Don’t worry about her, just drive into the garage."

"Okay."

Ending the call, Claire followed Sean’s instructions, directing her car toward his garage.

However, just as she turned, aiming to reverse into the garage, the red Porsche abruptly raced towards her car’s front.

The BMW and Porsche collided head-on, sharing a rather passionate kiss.

Claire, in the car, suffered quite a shock, her head nearly smashing against the windshield.

She unclasped her seatbelt, and as she stepped out, Luna walked over to confront her.

"How are you here?"
