Chapter 62: Chapter 62: I Wonder Which Man Is Lucky Enough to Marry Miss Hale

Dylan Skinner’s eyes widened.

Instinctively, he asked, "Was it the dark-faced man who dragged you away last night?"

Claire Hale initially wanted to nod but hesitated and said, "It wasn’t him. He’s one of my suitors, the most persistent. I’ve already rejected him, but he’s still chasing after me."

"Oh, I see."

Dylan Skinner nodded, feeling a bit embarrassed, and said:

"Sister, you’re married, so how am I supposed to be nice to you?" 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

"Because my husband isn’t nice to me," Claire Hale looked at him and said, "He likes to cheat on me, and I want to cheat on him too."

"Alright..." Dylan Skinner nodded, though he didn’t quite understand. He still persisted in believing his sister was right, smiling at her, "I’ve ordered breakfast, Sister. When you’re ready, come and eat."

After tidying up and washing, she stepped out of the room and indeed saw a variety of food on the table.

Dylan Skinner saw she hadn’t moved and asked, "What’s wrong, Sister? You don’t like any of it?"

"Nothing," she said flatly, "I just thought of how I’ve been married to my husband for two years, and he’s never made breakfast for me once."

Upon hearing this, Dylan Skinner was a bit indignant too: "Why keep such a man around? Might as well divorce him!"

"Yeah, I wonder when I’ll be able to get a divorce."

After saying this, Claire Hale sat down quietly to eat.

After finishing, she bid farewell to Dylan Skinner and was about to leave the room when he suddenly called out to her, "Sister!"

She turned her head, "What’s up?"

Dylan Skinner smiled shyly, "I still don’t know your name."

She was taken aback for a moment, then curved her lips into a smile.

"Claire Hale."

...

Clarence Finch had noticed early on that Tristan Lockwood was in a bad mood today.

His whole persona exuded a low-pressure vibe.

After the morning meeting, he asked, "What’s up with you, looking so unsatisfied?"

Tristan Lockwood glanced at him without responding.

He was thinking about whom Claire Hale might have been with last night.

Though she kept saying she was going to cheat on him,

Tristan Lockwood never really believed she was focused on such things.

That woman had never really cared about anyone, even just for fun; she wasn’t interested.

If he hadn’t heard that man’s voice himself, he wouldn’t have believed she’d have the nerve to keep a man outside.

"Dr. Finch, may I ask when my mother’s surgery is scheduled?"

A clear male voice came from beside him.

Tristan Lockwood was startled, then frowned and looked toward the sound.

Dylan Skinner was smiling politely and inquiring about his mother’s surgery with Clarence Finch.

Clarence Finch was a bit surprised, "Weren’t you saying just a few days ago that you needed time to gather the money?"

Dylan Skinner gave an embarrassed smile, "I gathered the money and just paid at the billing office. I wanted to check if you could do the surgery for my mother sooner."

"The timing isn’t an issue," Clarence Finch said, "But your mother’s attending physician is Dr. Lockwood now. He’s an expert in tumor removal, so you can rest assured."

Saying this, he pointed to Tristan Lockwood nearby.

Dylan Skinner followed the direction and immediately froze his smile.

The man who had dragged Claire Hale away with a dark face last night was Dr. Lockwood?

Still, he extended his hand to greet Tristan Lockwood, "Dr. Lockwood, hello. I’m Dylan Skinner, a family member of the patient in bed 7."

Tristan Lockwood replied with a simple "Mm."

Dylan Skinner asked a few more questions about his mother’s condition.

Though Tristan Lockwood was distant, his work was professional, patiently answering all his questions.

He even comforted Dylan Skinner in the end, "Your mother’s condition is quite common now. After the surgery and chemotherapy, it should be manageable."

Gratefully, Dylan Skinner thanked him.

Originally, he had thought Tristan Lockwood would be difficult to deal with; seeing how fierce he was yesterday, cold and bothering Claire Hale.

Unexpectedly, he found him surprisingly kind.

In the afternoon, Dylan Skinner’s mother’s surgery time was set, and he sent Claire Hale a message of thanks saying: Sister, thanks to you, my mother’s surgery is scheduled for next Monday. I really appreciate it.

Claire Hale replied, telling him to accompany his mother well over the next few days. She added, "Being nice to me and paying back things can wait until after the surgery."

Dylan Skinner replied with a cute emoji.

He didn’t expect, a day before the surgery, Claire Hale would arrive with gifts to visit his mother personally.

His mother hadn’t met her before, and when asked about her identity, Claire Hale just said, "I’m Dylan’s intern company supervisor, here to offer official condolences. Besides, Dylan has a nice character, I see him as a brother."

Dylan’s mother held her hand repeatedly thanking her.

Yet when her eyes swept over their faces, she was momentarily surprised.

At first glance, they seemed to resemble each other somewhat.

Dylan’s mother: "Miss Hale, becoming a leader at such a young age is impressive."

Claire Hale smiled softly.

Officially, Dylan’s mother was ill, but her spirits were good; she often joked lightly with Dylan.

Claire Hale had never experienced such a family atmosphere.

This feeling of family unity warmed her heart.

So this is what family feels like.

She increasingly felt that forcing Tristan Lockwood to marry her was a mistake.

The desire for divorce unknowingly grew stronger.

Claire Hale stayed for an hour and was preparing to say goodbye when Tristan Lockwood walked in from the door.

Their eyes met.

She quickly withdrew her gaze and told Dylan’s mother and Dylan, "I’ll be leaving now. I’ll come visit again after Auntie’s surgery."

Dylan’s mother smiled, "Miss Hale, no need for such formality. Once I’m better, I’ll invite you over for dumplings, as long as you don’t mind."

Claire Hale smiled, saying, "Of course not."

Saying this, she left the ward.

Tristan Lockwood watched her leave and then inquired about Dylan’s mother’s condition, giving a few pre-surgery reminders.

Dylan Skinner: "Dr. Lockwood, thank you for everything."

Tristan Lockwood replied calmly, "It’s my duty."

Dylan’s mother then asked Dylan, "Is Miss Hale single?"

Dylan Skinner heard her tone, knowing what she was thinking, he frowned and said, "Mom, what are you imagining? She’s already married."

"Married?" Dylan’s mother was first surprised, but she considered it. "Such a gorgeous and sensible young lady likely has many suitors; being married makes sense. Whoever married Miss Hale is lucky."

Tristan Lockwood paused in his note-taking, glancing at Dylan’s mother.

Dylan Skinner noticed his reaction and suddenly recalled Claire Hale mentioning Tristan Lockwood had feelings for her.

Also reminded of Claire Hale’s uncaring husband.

He said, "But Sister Claire’s husband is reportedly not much of a man; he treats her poorly and refuses to let her divorce him."

Dylan’s mother, upon hearing this, immediately showed anger: "That’s really excessive; a young girl’s time is too precious. This man is clearly wasting Miss Hale’s time deliberately."

Dylan Skinner nodded in agreement and intentionally looked at Tristan Lockwood, asking, "Dr. Lockwood, what do you think?"
