Chapter 1151: Chapter 1151 Marcus’ Last Struggle

Having accomplished the goal he had focused his entire being on, Marcus returned to his original form and fell out of the sky and towards the ground.

He was in a state of bleary consciousness from having expended every ounce of mana he had within him.

Only just barely did he manage to stop himself at the last moment and change his momentum before falling into the ground.

Becoming tangible again, he collapsed onto the scorched ground below and looked up at the enormous Lava Dragon covered in crimson flames.

Gronex was running low on mana himself after casting such a powerful spell, but his strength and stamina still remained in acceptable conditions.

His Supreme Skill was already restoring his power, and the ancient dragon was far from being beaten.

"A commendable effort, but it is over now."

Marcus heard Gronex’s voice as if someone was speaking right next to his ears.

The rage his opponent had been expressing before had vanished now, and his tone now relayed the Lava Dragon’s respect.

It seemed that through his struggling, Marcus had upgraded himself from a toy to a truly worthy opponent.

Still, he really did not care about how his adversary felt.

Not once had he given up before.

Until he either could not move anymore, or was destroyed, he would continue to fight.

’I don’t have any mana so there won’t be any more slinging spells. My strength is nothing compared to my opponent’s, that means that a physical fight is out of the question. I’ve only got one last move to use. So, deep end it is.’ Marcus thought as he dragged his fingers through the ashen dirt and pulled himself up.

After giving him a moment of respect, Gronex was preparing to finish him off.

The colossal dragon had lifted his upper right leg up and was just moments away from slamming it down.

He was imbuing it with enough spiritual energy to make sure that he crushed Marcus and left nothing of him to return from.

Except, when it came to stats, there was only one that Marcus exceeded Gronex in. And it was the resource that he still had in the most abundance.

Though he did not need to breathe, Marcus sucked in all the air around him as he prepared for the final attack he could realistically use.

"OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

A cacophonous wail filled with spiritual energy erupted from deep within Marcus’ throat.

Knowing that there would not be antigun after this and that his Soul Burst was mere seconds away from fading, he poured everything into his Howl of the Damned.

However, even as he forced out the last of his power, all Marcus could accomplish was slightly pushing Gronex back. It was not going to be anywhere near enough for him to win.

’Why don’t I just stop holding back? My greatest power is still waiting to be unleashed.’

This thought formed in the back of his mind as he felt his strength waning.

A temptation was growing in him, and the gnawing hunger and desire within in him that he normally kept in check was pushing its way past his resistance.

He had one Supreme Skill left that remained unused.

If he gave into it, he would become far more powerful than he was right now. Truthfully, its possibilities were limitless.

All he had to do was let it loose and eat, devour, and ravage everything around him.

The strength he needed was right at the tip of his fingers; all he needed to do was wield it.

When there was only three seconds left on his Soul Burst, and Marcus felt his spiritual energy nearly drain to the last, the temptations that he normally kept at bay broke through.

If he was going to fall anyway, he might as well activate it.

’Soul Glutto-’

Right as Marcus was about to release his Supreme Skill that had evolved from his Soul Devour unique skill for the first time, a loud and familiar voice echoed through his head. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

’Don’t do it, Marcus!’

His eyes that had glazed over came back into focus when he heard Lyra calling out to him.

It had been only for a few moments, but he had started to lose himself. Just as he had years ago, not long after he had reunited with Lyra.

Back then he had not known just how dangerous his power to eat his own and others’ souls was.

In a moment of weakness, he had nearly gone on a rampage that would have seen him turning into a true monster. Starting with him killing Lyra and devouring her soul.

’Once again, she saved me from it. But what is she doing back here?’ Marcus thought as he collapsed onto his knees.

The last second of his Soul Burst had just ended, and there was not a drop of power left in him.

Nearly all of his mana and spiritual energy had been expended, and with the massive stat reduction penalty from his limit breaking unique skill now in effect, it was a miracle that he had not fallen flat on his face unable to move at all.

Nevertheless, with his Howl of the Damned having come to an end, Marcus could no longer hold Gronex off any longer.

The enormous dragon brought his leg down, ready to end Marcus with an earth shattering stomp.

Yet, at the last instant before he was crushed, a figure moving like blur grabbed ahold of him and pulled him away.

"You were supposed to get away while Roxene and I stalled out his Supreme Skill." Marcus said chidingly to the person carrying him.

"Yeah, and you were supposed to last for five minutes, not just a little over three and a half. At the very least it was long enough for me and Quillon to chug the rest of the potions we have. I’m in good enough condition now to run around and buy that last minute and a half." Lyra replied, wearing a confident smirk on her face to hide her trepidations.

Of course, Gronex was not just going to let them get away now that Lyra had rushed in for a gallant last second rescue.

The ancient Lava Dragon reared up his head, and his throat began to glow brightly as he prepared to unleash his breath attack to incinerate both of them.
