Chapter 1152: Chapter 1152 A Deadly game of Keep Away

Lyra remained perfectly calm even as she was only moments away from being bathed in a stream of blazing magma.

’Has he already forgotten what happened last time.’

As soon as the blast came flying towards her, she held up her hand and conjured what looked like a tortoise shell made out of diamond.

The moment the molten rock hit Lyra’s Reflector Shield, it came to a momentary halt as the lava swirled around before rapidly changing directions.

While the intense heat would not do any damage, just as it did last time, Lyra expected the force behind the breath attack to at least knock Gronex down for a few seconds and give her time to gain some distance.

Yet, it seemed that the battle-hardened ancient dragon had already figured out Lyra’s tricks.

The instant he had fired his lava breath; the enormous mythic beast had dashed to the side and lunged at Lyra and Marcus with his mouth wide open. Clearly intent on shredding them both to pieces with his teeth and then swallowing them.

Eyes wide, Lyra knew she would be unable to get away while carrying Marcus, who was completely drained of all her strength.

She had thought that stopping in place for only a fraction of a second to use her reflector shield had been the right call, but that small frame of time had proven all Gronex needed to get the jump on them.

"Sorry in advance for how rough this is going to be." Lyra said as she tossed Marcus into the air.

He went flying high at a high speed from the immense strength that was hidden within Lyra’s slender arms.

Normally he would have easily been able to correct his posture and pick up speed on his own, but right now he was nearly bottomed out on both spiritual energy and mana and could hardly float on his own let alone fly.

Though Lyra was able to get Marcus out of the way by tossing him skyward, she was left watching as a giant maw of swordlike teeth closed in around her.

When his jaws slammed shut, Lyra was turned into a human pincushion as sharp teeth easily pierced through her body.

To Gronex, it felt as if he had merely crushed the smallest of berries in his mouth, but there was a satisfied smile on his face for a moment. At least until he realized that he had been duped.

The sensation of bones, flesh, and blood in his mouth only lasted for moment before vanishing into thin air.

What he had eaten was not Lyra but one of her clones that she had swapped places with at the last moment. Leaving it behind as a substitute to take the dragon’s vicious bite for her.

"Gotcha again."

Lyra came flying by in a burst of black flames as she grabbed ahold of Marcus without slowing down. The impact which would have knocked the wind out of him, if he had to breathe anyway.

This time, since she had been able to divert Gronex’s attention momentarily, she created several layers of illusions to distract the powerful mythic beast.

There were now over a hundred copies of herself carrying Marcus away, while their real bodies had been rendered invisible.

Naturally, Gronex could use his Dragon Eyes to see through the illusions, but then he risked dealing with the feedback that Lyra could send as retribution thanks to the deathly energy she currently possessed.

Except, the ruler of the molten sea was no longer interested in playing any games. He was running out of time on his Supreme Skill and once it ended, he would be left in a weakened state for some time.

Without bothering searching for where Lyra and Marcus had run off to, he reared his head back and roared. Sending out a far-reaching wave of heat that burned away everything in its path.

The illusions that Lyra had conjured burst apart and dissipated when the blast hit them, and while her main body was able to endure the intense heat as she shielded Marcus, it did wipe away the invisibility she had placed over them.

"There you are." Gronex growled as he leapt into the air and his wings began furiously beating.

Despite his enormous body, he picked up speed quickly, and it was clear that he would catch up to Lyra at any moment.

From high above, Roxene started launching a barrage of spells down at the blazing dragon, but Gronex mostly ignored them as the armor of crimson flames around him blocked the attacks.

Annoyed by the interruption, the great Lava Dragon conjured dozens of weapons that would be fit for giants out of molten rock and sent them flying towards Roxene. He had been delayed over and over again so far. Now it was finally time to make the first kill in this hunt.

"We’re not going to make it at this point, Lyra. Just toss me aside and keep yourself safe. I’ll figure something out." Marcus groaned weakly.

"Yeah right. In your condition I’m afraid you’re going to burst into dust at any moment. If I let you go, you’re either going to die or become an even bigger threat than the dragon. I took a peek into the future already, so I know what’s going to happen. Just trust me."

Of course, though she had seen a few possible futures, her actions had already changed things to the point that what she had witnessed before was already far outside of their current reality. It was still quite possible that they would all be killed despite her efforts to move towards a better future.

"Shit!"

Once Gronex had gotten closer, he opened his mouth wide and began sucking air in.

The suction force started to draw Lyra and Marcus towards the cavernous mouth that was already beginning to bubble up with magma. Either they would be drawn in, or if they continued to resist, incinerated by the burst of molten rock.

"Sixth Form, Heaven’s Rending."

From below, a barrage of giant mana slashes flew through the air towards Gronex.

In swift succession they slammed into his lower jaw, forcing the enormous dragon’s mouth shut and his head careening upwards.

"Looks like I made it just in time." Quillon said, a smirk on his face even as he was huffing heavily from exhaustion.

He had taken some of the worst injuries out of all of them and was still in rough shape after taking every recovery item he had on hand.

Still, he was not just going to wait on the sidelines while his girlfriend and rival were in trouble.

"What are you doing?! You were supposed to wait until the right opening to finish this. You’ve barely got any strength left to fight with!" Lyra shouted in condemnation.

"Well, plans change. You weren’t supposed to join in this early either."

Quillon just shrugged his shoulders before moving his sword into a defensive stance and keeping his legs in a position that would allow him to move quickly.

Gronex had momentarily gone still after getting hit, but there was little doubt that the powerful dragon was uninjured. It seemed that he had merely paused to think for a bit.

"I despise this power, but I suppose that I must use it." Gronex said as his head jerked downwards and he stared at Quillon.

"You’ll be the first to die."

When these words left the ancient dragon’s mouth, a blossom of fire formed around Quillon in an instant and snapped close. Giving him no time to react.
