Transmigrated as Cannon Fodder — I Rise to Female Lead Through Hard Work-Chapter 137: Entering the Operating Room
At the Food Factory Workers’ Hospital, Yi Roujing stepped into the lobby right on time for work when a small figure ran toward her.
"Sister."
Yi Roujing looked down and recognized him as Chen Guole, Mr. Chen’s son. "Hello, how’s your health?"
"Thank you, Sister, I’m better now." Chen Guole replied shyly, "Sister, my mom brought me here today specifically to thank you. How about having lunch at our house?"
"Le—" A woman in a blue floral dress and white sandals, with short shoulder-length hair slightly curling and a fair complexion, approached. Though time had left its marks on her, her features remained delicate, beauty untouched by time.
"Mom, I’m here." Chen Guole waved, and the lady in the blue dress hurried over, immediately spotting Yi Roujing, who was clearly the most striking presence in the lobby.
"Comrade Yi Roujing?" the lady in blue softly called out.
"Hello." Yi Roujing responded with a smile.
"It really is Comrade Yi Roujing." The lady in blue was delighted. "I’ve been wanting to bring Le here to thank you, but Old Chen kept stopping me, saying this is a hospital and you’re a nurse, busy with work and can’t attend to us. He regards this hospital as his treasure."
Yi Roujing found it amusing.
"Roujing, just call me Mei. My last name is Mei." Mei Qianyao smiled warmly, the lines at her eyes carrying grace.
"Aunt Mei." Yi Roujing smiled as she addressed her.
"You have to visit Expert Lei in the morning, right? I heard from Old Chen. I’ll take Le to Old Chen’s office first. We’ll have lunch together, no refusal." Mei Qianyao conveyed everything in one breath, and Yi Roujing nodded in agreement.
This morning’s auxiliary work, Yi Roujing performed as smoothly as usual, but unlike the previous day, it required more effort. One of Expert Lei’s students, a man with the surname Du, was particularly targeting her.
For example, his prescription writings were scrawled. If not for her solid professional background, mistakes would have been inevitable. She understood that his aim was for her to repeatedly ask questions, thereby labeling her as unprofessional and clueless.
Actually, outpatient nurses aren’t required to do as much. Nurses in other departments just need to guide patients and administer injections or drips in the treatment room. However, since Lei Zhenzhong is from Jing City, Yi Roujing has been following their arrangements to the letter these past two days.
"Help, help—" Suddenly, a high-pitched cry and weeping emerged from the outpatient lobby, followed by the commotion of the surrounding people.
"What happened to his leg, the bone’s sticking out. If the bleeding continues, will he survive?"
"Quick, we must stop the bleeding immediately. Where’s Director Zhong? Xiangxi, go find Director Zhong now." Luo Yueyuan quickly regained composure, and Han Xiangxi, following her instructions, sprinted towards surgery. Zhong Fangrui, the director of surgery, was needed immediately for this patient who clearly required surgery.
"Expert Lei, Expert Lei, please come to the lobby. A patient with a broken leg and uncontrolled bleeding has been brought in. I’ve already sent someone to find Director Zhong," Luo Yueyuan explained as she personally came to fetch Lei Zhenzhong.
At the mention of uncontrolled bleeding, Lei Zhenzhong immediately stood up and hurried over, with Yi Roujing right behind him.
The man, now placed on a hospital bed, wore a blue work uniform stained with black oil and blood, the blue fabric saturated with black patches, obscuring the extent of his blood loss.
"Has his blood been tested? Do we know his blood type? Has an X-ray been taken?" Yi Roujing instinctively asked while thoroughly checking the patient. She discovered the most bleeding occurred at the back of the thigh and quickly grabbed clean gauze to apply pressure near the groin area, then applied compression directly to the wound.
"I personally drew the blood earlier and prioritized getting the results," Luo Yueyuan replied sternly. "I’ve already had the hospital’s blood supply checked, and an X-ray has been ordered. Nurse Chief Fan and the others should be here soon. We’ll hand the patient over to surgery shortly."
Upon seeing the fracture in the lower leg, Lei Zhenzhong asserted, "We must proceed to surgery quickly. I’ll join in."
"Someone’s already gone to find Director Zhong," Luo Yueyuan responded.
Zhong Fangrui and Fan Yuanrong arrived hurriedly together. "Fan, prepare the operating room."
"Yes."
Zhong Fangrui examined the patient thoroughly, identifying the primary injuries in the lower body.
"Dr. Zhong, please save Yuan. He was run over by a reversing truck, and he just got married two months ago," the person who brought the patient pleaded sorrowfully, one of them looking dangerously pale.
"Nurse Chief Luo, the blood test results are ready."
Luo Yueyuan handed the results to Fan Yuanrong. "The X-ray results will take a bit longer."
Zhong Fangrui used scissors to cut open the work pants, revealing a distorted lower leg. He noticed Yi Roujing pressing on the back of the patient’s thigh and asked her to remove her hand, revealing a deep wound, yet remarkably, the bleeding was minimal.
"You performed the first aid? Well done, your hemostasis is successful," Zhong Fangrui remarked, signaling Yi Roujing to continue applying pressure, admiration evident in his eyes.
With the X-ray report ready, the patient was transferred to the operating room. "You should come in as well," Zhong Fangrui told Yi Roujing, who was surprised and looked to Luo Yueyuan instinctively, as she was her direct supervisor.
"Roujing, go with them," Luo Yueyuan authorized immediately.
Though Yi Roujing had saved Mr. Chen’s son before, Luo Yueyuan hadn’t witnessed it firsthand. Today, Yi Roujing’s performance exceeded her expectations. Despite being a nurse for a short time, she remained calm while handling such critical cases, asked all the right questions, and performed first aid effectively. Frankly, Luo Yueyuan wasn’t adept at first aid, and yet Yi Roujing managed to stop the bleeding promptly.
With Luo Yueyuan’s approval, Yi Roujing followed suit. Entering the operating room from decades ago, to be honest, she found it rather basic. The medical instruments seemed somewhat cumbersome, and she was allowed in to observe, not to participate.
Witnessing Zhong Fangrui’s surgical skills, Yi Roujing was speechless. He was outstanding. She had heard that Zhong Fangrui’s presence at the Food Factory Workers’ Hospital’s surgical department attracted people from elsewhere to request his operations.
A surgeon of his caliber working in such a small workers’ hospital was surprising to Yi Roujing.
Even more surprising was that during the surgery, it wasn’t the resident doctors under scrutiny but Yi Roujing. Zhong Fangrui quizzed her on various surgical knowledge and instruments, and Yi Roujing answered fluently, satisfaction visible in Zhong Fangrui’s eyes despite his mask.
"Fan, it seems you’ll soon have another young talent in your team," Zhong Fangrui said with a pleased expression, leaving the final suturing to a resident physician.
