Chapter 116: Chapter 116:Exam Results [2]

Were things really that bad between the siblings?

The book hadn’t mentioned much past the fact that Liam had defeated Charlotte in the race for the throne, becoming emperor while Charlotte remained a regular royal.

Following my gaze, and perhaps sensing my confusion, Zeke shrugged his shoulders and answered my inaudible question.

"They’ve been pitted against each other since a young age. Liam’s only purpose is to claim the throne, and the princess’s only purpose is to defeat Liam."

"It would be weird for them not to despise each other."

Nodding my head in agreement, I answered.

"True."

Seeing Zeke about to turn away, I tried to return to the original topic of the existence of the "Wonder Twins," but some other students got between us before I could ask.

As students in front of the poster on the left, I slowly walked up, finding Mira next to me and gazing at the paper.

Before I could even shift my gaze away from the paper, Mira’s overly cheerful and most likely sarcastic voice sounded from beside me as she slapped my back, pushing me forward.

"You know, for a sword-user, you’re pretty observant and elusive! According to the other students, they didn’t even see you once!"

"First-hand eye witnesses even testified that when they reached the island, the crabawlert had somehow, magically, lost three of its tentacles!"

Pausing for a moment before continuing in a more serious tone, Mira tilted her head and said.

"I even got a primary source to testify that you single-handedly led yourself to the opposite island where the crabawler within minutes of the exam starting!"

Placing the tip of her index finger under her chin and pretending to look confused, she continued.

"You know I’m an observer, but it even took me a couple of minutes to realize there was a second island. There weren’t even any clues!"

Nudging my shoulder, Mira then said in her usual cheerful and sarcastic tone.

"You’re making me look really bad, you know!"

"..."

Pausing, I immediately raised my hands and muttered.

"Crabawler...your portal had a crabawler to face too...?"

Glancing around the crowded common room, Mira answered, her eyes sparkling for some reason.

"Didn’t you know? Every portal led to the same environment, place, and boss. I found it after interviewing some people just now."

Letting out a deep sigh at the unexpected change, I questioned again.

"This first-hand witness and informant, are they by any chance named after someone very, very old and wise?"

Cupping her hands around her mouth and acting shocked, Mira said with her eyebrows raised.

"Wow, observant and intelligent? What are you, a sage?"

Curious about my actions, Mira had probably interviewed all of my teammates, and Sage probably spilled everything.

Sighing, I shook my head and turned away, now realizing that a couple of gazes were on my figure.

My actions wouldn’t...no, shouldn’t have been suspicious.

Unlike in the book, every group had been placed in the same environment.

So, my instant rushing to find a rock and surfboard across the sea without any explanation would, of course, be extremely questionable.

As for my second-place ranking, I wasn’t necessarily surprised.

Although I had been the one to actually destroy the three tentacles, she had been the one to immobilize them.

With my penalty of 50% off, she had probably won by a small margin.

It was also quite surprising to Charlotter ranking above Liam, as through the book, things were always the opposite.

Whether or not that was a change caused by my actions, I didn’t know.

As I headed back to the staircase, my face downward to avoid gazes, I suddenly heard a sound echo above me.

*STEP*

Standing at the base of the staircase and looking up, I was immediately met with Evangel’s figure.

Zeke couldn’t have been more wrong when he called us the "Wonder Duo."

If he thought the prince and princess were the duo of violence and envy, we were probably destruction and sorrow.

Although I had a slight sliver of hope earlier, it seemed fate had its way of playing out.

Evangel’s group, during the exam, consisted of four Worldly students.

And, somehow, all four of them were part of Evangel’s original squad and group during her first semester in the Worldly class.

What were the odds of that?

Impossible...it should be.

One might be possible, two is believable, three is close to impossible, but four out of four is...something else.

It seemed that her original friends from the Worldly class in the book would return in this world as well, not leaving her alone.

Stepping on the right side of the staircase, I passed by her and returned to my room.

2nd place...not bad at all.

The South Duke definitely wouldn’t recruit me, so it seemed my possible options were the rulers of the East, North, and West.

While joining the Imperial and Emperor’s forces was an option, I preferred not to.

Simply too many important and powerful people in one place for a demon king like me to handle.

Resting my head on my pillow, I felt an odd wave of nausea rush through my body.

The weekend was tomorrow, wasn’t it?

Something I used to always look forward to on Earth now seemed... so mundane.

I wondered what all my friends were doing back at school.

Had they forgotten about me?

Well, I couldn’t blame them if they did.

I had forgotten about them, as well.

Gazing out the window-wall to my right at the light-orange sky, I felt sick.

As my eyes gradually grew too heavy to maintain and my eyesight went dark, my hand subconsciously reached forward, grabbing the curtains and blocking the window.
