Chapter 117: Chapter 117:Exam Results [3]

Waking up to the sun shining, bright as ever, in my face through the glass wall, I sighed and reluctantly covered my face.

It had been three weeks since the Practical Exam.

My daily routine as a Glaive Academy student was starting to take shape.

First and foremost, I attended all my classes on time, though, for most of them, I would just pretend to pay attention.

Now that I knew that a teacher was out to get me, I had to be extra careful about the small yet important things like attendance and grades.

After classes, my schedule would shift depending on whether or not I had a training session with Daisy.

Usually, I would meet her at some secluded spot among the academy’s forest, as the coliseum had become far too crowded.

Throughout our last training sessions, I had been focusing on discovering the capabilities of my Time element and its gifts.

Only with her could I go all out, displaying my true strength without holding back any secrets.

With the use of my time-stopping ability, I had even managed to land a small hit on the usually untouchable Daisy.

As I fell backward due to an instant counterattack from Daisy, she immediately questioned, not even helping me up from the ground.

"What was that? Did you just teleport...like a space element user!? No...you’re time, aren’t you?"

Using Time Freeze required a massive expenditure of my finite time elemental particles, so I used it carefully.

Training was necessary, though, as I couldn’t just use it when it was a life-or-death scenario, as I would have no experience with the ability.

Faced with her barrage of questions, I waved my hands and answered.

"It’s a gifted ability. I paused time and moved to your blind side, surprising you. "

Pausing for a moment and pulling out her revolver so that its barrel was facing the sky, Daisy suddenly exclaimed.

"...isn’t that ability just a cheat code? What’s the point in training? Can’t you just...stop time and go kill or defeat your enemy while they’re frozen?"

"There’s nothing they can do to resist or defend themselves."

Shaking my head, I retrieved my sword from the ground and stood back up.

Since Time Freeze was my most powerful ability, I, of course, experimented with it.

I could already establish some major rules for the seemingly overpowered ability.

After waiting a moment to catch my breath, I stretched my hands and responded.

"I can’t. My sword would simply pass right through you. When I enter frozen time, every single living being becomes immune to attacks."

"They become a hologram, having an intangible and unattackable figure. Everything connected to them, like clothes and weapons, also becomes untouchable."

"The only thing I can do is move around and reposition myself."

Sighing and walking back to the other side of the clearing within the forest, Daisy complained with her back turned to me.

"You’d be the perfect sharpshooter, you know? Are you sure your gift is sword-related?"

...my gift couldn’t have been more specific.

Your sword cuts through time.

To be fair, despite the implications and obstacles that would come from defying my gift, I had considered picking up the gun like Daisy.

Unlike a sword, which was completely useless on Earth, guns were used everywhere, so I already have some knowledge about them.

And, there wasn’t much to learn.

Simply aim, account for recoil and wind resistance, and shoot.

But with a sword, I would need years of experience and training to master the weapon.

I even had my nose to sense the terrible scents of humans who could be planning a sneak attack.

Rolling out of bed and preparing for the classes today, I contemplated my plans after school’s end.

If there were no training session with Daisy, I would head to the training hall to advance my swordsmanship or just relax.

But, in the past week especially, my leisure time has decreased significantly, due to a particular person.

Opening the training hall doors and seeing the two familiar figures of Liam and Charlotte, I was about to grab a sword when a sudden pressure gripped my shoulder.

"Where were you yesterday?"

Sighing and walking forward with Scarlett still holding my shoulder, I dragged us toward the wooden swords.

"I already told you. I don’t have the time to spar every d-"

Completely ignoring my words and angrily picking up a sword, Scarlett said while glaring at the ground.

"I can’t believe I’m only ranked number 8!"

Suddenly coming to a realization, she pointed at me with her sword and asked.

"YOU! How did you get number two? I’m way better than you with the sword."

Shrugging my shoulders and grabbing a sword of my own, I answered.

"Swordmanship isn’t everything."

Shaking her head and charging at me with her sword stretched above her head, Scarlett muttered with a grin.

"Oh, shut it, you fraud."

With Scarlett constantly sparring against me, my swordsmanship skills had increased exponentially, but slowly but surely, I was running out of ways to win.

Scarlett clearly had the technical advantage, so I had to constantly innovate while fighting to come up with ways to win.

Somehow, I had gained myself a sparring partner.

At the same time, I had lost something else, though.

Prior to the exam, Mira had always been the one to initiate conversations with me, and I, whether I knew it or not at the time, had continued them.

With Mira’s well-founded suspicions about my practical exam result, though, things had changed.

Now, I simply ignored or brushed her off.

And being the observer she was, Mira took the hint.

She didn’t try to dig deeper into me or my mysteries, but simply backed off completely.

She had gotten too close, so I had to push her back.

Dressed in the academy uniform, I opened my dorm’s doors, ignoring the breakfast lying within the common room, and exited the building.

Today’s first class was with Professor Snape, and I had a feeling that some interesting information would be shared.
