Chapter 46: Chapter 46:Status [5]

Tall buildings towered up to the sky around me, blocking my previously amazing view of the light-blue sky...and the smell was horrid.

It wasn’t even the smell of the humans around me...there was trash everywhere.

Sighing, I shook my head and soldiered on.

To be fair, I was now in the "slums" part of the capital, where homeless encampments were placed, so it was to be expected.

Looking around, I observed the people in suits around me, but they seemed...immune to the smell as they speed-walked forward without a care.

Not wanting to walk around a block of buildings to get north, I halted as a thin alleyway came into sight.

Exiting the crowd of people on the streets, I walked into the alleyway, which was filled with abandoned furniture and large dumpsters.

However, just as I stepped in, I felt a chill run down my spine.

...what was I thinking?

I was a teenager with a rich white collared shirt and red blazer walking into an alleyway in the middle of the slums.

Letting out a sigh, I gripped the pen in my pocket and strolled forward, going far past the point of no retreat.

*CRASH*

*BANG*

After pausing for a moment and hearing a barrage of sounds echo from in front of me, I reluctantly reached up to my face.

If I were attacked from my right, I would be completely vulnerable, no matter my strength or gift.

As I ripped the bandage off my right eyelid, three human figures with what seemed to be knives in their hands suddenly appeared before me.

Climbing out of an empty dumpster, the three figures landed on the floor before shifting their gazes to me.

Their clothes were tattered to the point where there were more holes than actual material, and their faces were covered in scars.

At that moment, I felt a sudden barrage of nausea attack me as my right eye was revealed, and its sight was no longer black.

From the left side of my perspective, my vision was completely fine...but from my right, everything was so distorted that I instantly became motion sick.

It had improved since the last time, as I could actually make out the figures of my three enemies and the dumpster.

However, it was like a whirlpool of time.

The figures around me, like the humans and the dumpster, swirled and spun around, making it seem like they were moving when they were staying still.

If I had to compare it to something, it would be a constant loop what I saw while moving through the warp gate.

Thing were destroyed and constructed before me endlessly, making me question reality itself.

Suddenly, the three figures faltered and fell back as they looked at me.

Through the reflection of some grey liquid on the concrete, I could see myself as well.

My pupil was a crimson-red orb, almost bulging out of my face, and everything around my pupil was pitch-black.

It was as if there was a gemstone in my eyesocket.

Perhaps noticing the uncertainty on my face, one of the three figures instantly sprang forward without a word.

Weren’t they supposed to say something first!?

Caught completely off guard, I pressed the button on my pen while simultaneously removing it from my pocket.

And, in the next second, my right hand held a blood-red blade.

But...it was too late.

I had expected some sort of confrontation first when the attackers would threaten me and ask for my money...but instead, they had instantly gone for the kill.

Unable to raise my sword in time, I chose the next best option and side-stepped to the left.

As the figure charged past me, his dagger grazed my face, causing a streak of crimson-red blood to appear on my left cheek.

Then, the two figures who had been standing still until now advanced forward, with their daggers in hand.

Behind them, the first figure quickly halted and turned around, now facing my back. freēwēbηovel.c૦m

I was surrounded.

These weren’t any normal robbers.

They were organized, had decent proficiency with their weapons, and had strategies.

As a surge of pain coursed through my head, I instinctively reached my hand to the scar on my face and felt it.

However, there was no blood.

When I returned my palm to my sight, it was empty and colored tan like always.

Seeing my still figure, the two figures in front of me instantly charged forward at me from different angles, one attacking my right and the other hitting my left.

Yet, my body remained still.

Time didn’t exactly pause or slow like last time.

The figures of my opponents, both behind and in front of me, were surrounded by a holographic light-yellow hue that only I could see.

It was impossible for me to miss them.

My right crimson-red pupil seemed to flick around the pitch-black void around it, instantly memorizing everything.

Even when I looked forward, I could see still what was behind me...as if I had eyes on the back of my head.

Of course, I wasn’t actually seeing backward, though.

My right eye was simply guessing where the figures and everything behind me would be based on how it had looked when I had last looked back.

In other words, my eye was running simulations and trying to predict the behavior of every object, including the human, behind me, and showing me the most likely option.

However, it wasn’t just my vision of my surroundings that improved.

Raising my blood-red sword, I instantly feinted right, causing the person behind me to angle themselves accordingly.

Since the alleyway was thin, I stretched my left leg out, feeling my shoe touch the wall, and boosted myself into the air.

As I flew over the three highlighted figures, countless red holographic lines from the top of their heads to the bottom of my shoes were drawn.

Beside each line was a time, such as "5 seconds," representing how much time I had before their attack hit me.
