Chapter 58: Chapter 58:Introductions [2]

Despite having an intrigued expression on his face, with his eyebrows raised and mouth open, Raven ultimately responded.

"pfft, just a waste of time."

Even I wouldn’t classify the academy’s entrance ceremony as a "waste of time."

Though it was just a bunch of pages filled with text for me, I had been able to imagine it, and something about watching the words you read come to life was beautiful.

Smiling, I made an abrupt turn, causing Raven to fall behind me, and then halted a couple of steps later.

In the distance, down the street, a massive circular-shaped building came into sight, towering far above all the other structures on the island.

The famous Glaive Colosseum.

Not only could it hold over five thousand people, but its architecture was simply stunning.

If I had to compare it to somewhere on Earth, I would say it was a more modern and stable version of the iconic Colosseum in Rome.

There were arch-shaped holes in the Colosseum’s wall, allowing you to actually see its inside despite being outside, and thousands of steps that surrounded it.

However, instead of being painted a pure white, the exterior of the building was colored a crimson red with occasional white spots.

And, of course, far above the exact middle of the Colosseum, a literal phoenix floated in the air with its wings spread out to the max and beak wide open.

Defying all laws of gravity, the celestial phoenix levitated motionlessly in the air above the Colosseum, colored a light red.

A huge ball of actual fire stood in front of the phoenix’s open beak, warming everyone inside the Colosseum and lighting up the night sky.

The phoenix’s brown feet dangled just above the Coliseum’s top seats, and its wingspan was just as big as the massive Colosseum.

This phoenix would only be visible during important events like the entrance ceremony, graduation, and school-wide competition, though.

Just seeing it in person made me inadvertently open my mouth...the book’s text describing it had not done the phoenix justice.

Shaking my head, I turned around and looked at Raven, who had halted while staring up at the phoenix in the sky.

"It’s not real by the way." free𝑤ebnovel.com

Snapping out of his trance, Raven immediately retorted.

"Do you think I’m stupid!? My family and I are merchants, you know. Of course, it’s fake."

Walking past the Colosseum and toward the less flashy training hall in the distance, I muttered.

"Ironic."

With the Colosseum done, I had practically seen everything I had wanted to when reading the book, so it was now time to spar.

The training hall building, modelled after a cube, was simple with no decorations or banner apparent.

As the doors came into sight, Raven suddenly halted and pointed ahead.

"...are the doors locked!?"

Narrowing my eyes, I attempted to look at the doors, but my eyes could barely even make them out.

Of course, I already knew the doors were locked from the book because Evangel wasn’t able to get in.

"You have good eyes."

Believing my compliment was sarcastic, Raven immediately gestured to the bandage on my right eye and replied,

"No, I just don’t fucking painting my eyes red to look cool."

Continuing to walk forward, I strolled up to the steps to the building and said.

"You know I’m going to take the bandage off when we fight, right? So, get used to it."

Waiting at the bottom of the steps, Raven muttered.

"Yeah, where the hell are we gonna fight, though?"

Cocking my head backward and make eye-contact with Raven, I responded.

"It’s a lock? A normal-ass metal lock. We have magic and swords, you know?"

The lock was tied in between the two doorknobs on the door, preventing us from pulling the door forward and opening it.

Taking my pen out of my pocket, I pressed its top, immediately feeling it grow a hundred times heavier.

As a blood-red blade surged out of the bottom of my pen and a hilt appeared at the top, I crouched and positioned my sword so that it was parallel to the lock.

Then, instead of focusing on my sword, I relied on my right hand, simply pretending as if my sword weren’t there.

Keeping my hand perfectly horizontal, I took a deep breath, ignoring all outside sounds, like the sound of Raven’s angry muttering, "Are you actually insane!?"

Finally, in a swift and clean motion, I horizontally swung my hand, not sword, with as much strength as I could.

*CRACK*

Following behind my hand, my blood-red blade passed directly horizontally through the lock on the doors, cutting it into two equal pieces.

Evangel’s advice did work...

Standing back up and pointing the tip of my blade at the ground, I turned around, seeing Raven staring at me with an expression that said, "I’m not a part of this in the slightest."

Placing my hand and the now open door knobs, I pulled it open and said.

"Let’s go. Don’t get scared now."

Walking up the staircase and hesitating in front of the open door, Raven glanced downward at my sword and said.

"You’re not using that, are you?"

Most students, like Raven, didn’t have an actual weapon yet, as Glaive would supply it to them once they were enlightened.

Clicking the button on my hilt and feeling my sword transform back into a pen, I nodded and pointed at the stack of wooden weapons inside the training hall.

"Of course, but which weapon are you going to use?"

Without a gift, Raven didn’t have a specified weapon, so I was curious to see which one he would choose.

Walking toward the stack of wooden weapons, specifically meant for sparring, he leaned down and said.

"Daggers are my speciality."

Seeing him pick a pair of curved karambit daggers, I nodded my head and grabbed a wooden broad sword, similar in shape to my blood-red blade.

My blood-red blade was a mix of a katana and broadsword, with a somewhat long and also wide blade, so there was no wooden sword that matched it exactly.
