Transmigrated Into The True Heiress-Chapter 95: Needle Sting
Chapter 95: Needle Sting
Lyle didn’t say a word at first. His gaze remained locked on hers, his body still and unreadable despite the closeness between them. The heat of his presence sent a shiver down Eira’s spine.
Eira’s eyes darted around, finally landing on his chest, realizing just how close they were. Her mind snapped back into focus as she pushed him away hastily, taking a step back to create some much-needed space.
"Sorry," she said quickly, folding her arms over her chest in an attempt to seem composed.
"It’s okay," Lyle replied smoothly, slipping his hands into his pockets. "But what were you doing here? Did you want to see me?"
Eira hesitated, trying to sound casual. "I just wanted to check if you were back to normal, and... well, it seems like you are."
Lyle studied her for a moment, his piercing violet eyes unwavering. "Doctor Liam told me something interesting. He said my switching to another personality is always connected to you. Specifically, whenever I sense you’re in danger."
Eira blinked, her expression softening as understanding dawned. "Oh, that explains it. When did he tell you this?" she questioned, though she didn’t fully understand how he could know when she was in danger.
"Before my last visit to him." Lyle paused, his gaze steady on hers. "But is that the only reason you came to see me?"
Eira faltered, her tongue tying itself into knots. "I... I mean, uh... Do you remember what happened last night? Everything you said?"
"Yes," he said simply, his voice calm.
Her heart skipped a beat. "So... they were all true?"
"Almost."
Eira nodded, unsure whether to press further. Her mind raced, but she quickly pivoted to a different topic. "Actually, there’s something I wanted to tell you. You’re the first person I’ll be sharing this with."
Lyle raised an eyebrow, his interest clearly piqued. "I’m listening."
"Well..." Eira exhaled, steeling herself. "You remember I told you I regained my memories after they were sealed, right? That happened because I found something my mother hid in my room. My younger self knew about it, but I couldn’t remember until recently. Among the things I found was my birth certificate. The date on it... was different from the one I’ve always known.
"My birthday isn’t two weeks from now. It’s actually four days away. That means..." She trailed off, her cheeks heating slightly. "It means we’ll have to get married earlier than planned."
Lyle’s lips quirked into the faintest hint of a smile. "I see. That’s fine by me. Even if your birthday was tomorrow, I’d marry you then without hesitation. But thank you for telling me first."
Eira chuckled softly, shaking her head. "That’s so cliché. And honestly, who else would I tell? You’re the one I’m marrying, after all."
"Is that all you wanted to tell me?" Lyle asked, tilting his head slightly.
Eira hesitated, then bit her lip before speaking. "There’s one more thing. I remember something about needing to give my blood for the experiment during the deal, right?"
"Yes."
"Well, I haven’t done that yet. Why don’t we head to Doctor Liam so he can take my blood and get it over with?"
Lyle regarded her for a moment before nodding. "If that’s what you want."
"Good. I’ll be waiting for you downstairs," Eira said, turning to leave.
As she walked away, Lyle’s gaze lingered on her, his expression softening in a way he rarely allowed anyone to see. Even as she disappeared down the corridor, he remained rooted in place, thoughtful and still.
...
Eira stepped out of the car and stared up at the massive hospital building before her. The sleek glass exterior reflected the pale light of the afternoon sky, its towering height both intimidating and imposing. Eira glanced at Lyle, who was already walking toward the building, and she immediately followed.
Jania didn’t come with them because Lyle had asked her to take care of something, but a few bodyguards accompanied them.
They entered the building, the sterile scent of disinfectant immediately filling her senses. The soft hum of activity surrounded her—voices echoing in the distance, the faint sound of machinery beeping. Lyle walked straight ahead, not bothering with the hospital staff who came to greet and welcome him.
They went straight to Doctor Liam’s laboratory, which occupied more than a quarter of the whole building.
Doctor Liam was already waiting for them in his lab, standing by a series of monitors that displayed streams of data. He turned at their approach, his sharp gaze landing first on Lyle and then on Eira.
"Right on time," Liam said, his voice even, but tinged with curiosity as he studied Eira. "Ephyra, it’s been a while."
Eira smiled. "It has. How have you been?"
"Very busy. The only thing I want the most right now is a relaxing and luxurious vacation."
Eira chuckled and glanced at Lyle. "I’m sure your boss can give that to you."
Liam sighed dramatically as if narrating his arduous life story. "He can, but he won’t. I have to conclude the job he gave me before doing anything else. Or else... Anyway, let’s get to why you’re here. I can feel someone staring at me, and it’s very uncomfortable. So I assume you’re ready for the extraction?"
Eira nodded, stepping forward with more confidence than she felt. "Yes. Let’s get it done."
Lyle walked beside her. "Remember, Liam—this has to be done carefully. If anything happens to her..."
Liam raised a hand, cutting him off. "You’ve made yourself clear, Lyle. She’ll be fine. I’ve been doing this for years."
He gestured toward a chair near a sleek workstation. Eira hesitated briefly before sitting down, the sterile leather cold against her skin. Liam prepared a tray of equipment, his movements precise.
"This will only take a few minutes," he said, tying a tourniquet around her arm. His touch was gentle, but Eira couldn’t help feeling a pang of unease.
She really hated the sting of needles.
