Transmigrated to a Dark Fantasy World of SSS-Rank: King of the Void-Chapter 24: The Mad Princess and The Witch of the Road
"That’s all for now," Maya said. She held the sheet of paper in her hands, now filled with Mitsuki’s information. "Your badge will be ready shortly, so please be patient."
Mitsuki nodded, looking away as the girl left the counter and headed to the second floor. His gaze returned to the scene from earlier, where the blond guy was still lying on the floor. The expression on his face was ridiculous, like a drugged cow.
’Still knocked out...’
Suddenly, he felt Jeanne’s hand on his shoulder. The princess looked at him with a faint smile.
"Since it’s your first time in Luxar, I guess you don’t know that guy."
"He’s not worth knowing anyway," Ellegaard added.
Jeanne continued.
"His name is Marco: an idiot who picks fights with everyone, even if he gets his ass kicked afterward. A lot of people play along with him since he’s an S-rank adventurer, which makes it clear he’s strong."
"But we’re stronger."
At Ellegaard’s words, Mitsuki let out a nervous laugh, still staring at the real "loser" lying on the floor.
’Yeah... I think that part is already very clear...’
"Even though we usually ignore him, this time I couldn’t let him mess with you. That punch I gave him will probably make him reflect for the rest of the week."
"It’d be funny if he never got back up again."
"Don’t say things like that, Ellegaard. I don’t plan on spending another night in the dungeon."
"And I don’t plan on paying your bail again."
"Dungeon?" Mitsuki whispered, a little worried just hearing the word.
Ellegaard sighed at the tick’s ignorance.
"Jeanne isn’t who you think she is, rookie. They call her the ’Mad Princess’ for a reason."
"I’m not crazy," the princess complained. She slammed her hand on the counter hard enough to startle everyone except the elf. "I never understood the reason for that ridiculous nickname. It doesn’t suit me."
Ellegaard looked at her with a poker face and said,
"I don’t think I need to explain why, do I?"
Scratching his head nervously, Mitsuki shrank into the chair at the counter. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
"Are you really that troublesome? Is that why people stay away from you?"
Ellegaard struck her staff against the floor.
"What are you talking about, rookie? I’m the one who doesn’t allow anyone to get close to me. You should be grateful you’re even with us. You’re very lucky that I’m so benevolent."
"Hahaha. I don’t think that’s it," Jeanne said. "Ellegaard gets angry easily and ends up hitting anyone who approaches her. In any case, people stay away because they’re afraid of her. That’s why they call her the Witch of the Road. If you run into her, you’d better be prepared. You should wear a helmet, just in case."
"Cut the nonsense, girl. Everyone I hit deserved it."
’And what about me? You’ve hit me plenty of times too, and I didn’t deserve it... I think...’
It wasn’t worth questioning the Witch. If he did, Mitsuki knew he’d be risking a solid blow to the head.
"Yeah, sure. Some people say your love hurts," Jeanne added with a teasing smile.
As usual, the elf was starting to get angry. Many people looked at her with fear, but she chose to calm herself with a sigh.
"Anyway, rookie, what was that earlier? Why did you stay lying on the ground like a pathetic worm? Why did you let yourself be trampled like that? Even if you’re weak, I thought you’d at least have the guts to raise your head in front of an idiot. I guess I overestimated you."
Mitsuki stiffened, and the expression on his face turned gloomy once again.
"I... that..."
’Looks like she really doesn’t know. So she doesn’t know me, and she wasn’t able to see my past.’
"Speak. Or do you think I’m a fortune teller?"
"You kind of are, Ellegaard..."
"Shut up, Jeanne. I’m trying to make this rookie learn something."
’You have no right to get involved in something that doesn’t concern you... That’s what I’d like to say, but I just...’
"I just wasn’t feeling well. Like you said, I’m weak and I tend to get sick easily."
Ellegaard looked at him suspiciously, but in the end she accepted the excuse. Even so, she raised her staff and bonked him on the head.
"Ow!"
"Next time, apply the things I’ve taught you. You already know how to use Fire and Water Elemental Magic. At least burn their faces with steam!"
"That’s a bit excessive," Jeanne said, rubbing Mitsuki’s head. "It would be better if Aslan and I taught him how to fight hand-to-hand. Just imagine a mage who can break your face with a punch, but can also use the most incredible magic ever seen."
Ellegaard refused.
"No. The tick is already my student. He will learn magic—the only thing that matters in the universe."
In the middle of their argument, Mitsuki sighed. He rested his forehead on the table, exhausted.
’I feel like I don’t have any say when it comes to Ellegaard. Her personality is strong and determined; she’ll easily force her will on me. Or am I just weak in front of pretty girls?’
"Magic is fine, but training the body is also important."
"I don’t care. You’ll do whatever you want anyway, even if I hit you."
"Don’t you always do the same thing?"
’I have to change things somehow. I feel like I can’t keep living in the shadows like this.’
Along with those words, the memory of his conversation with old Aslan returned. A man old enough to be considered a sage like Aslan must have the knowledge necessary to understand such a predicament.
On the other hand, Mitsuki would need to gather enough courage to ask him for help.
Just then, Maya returned holding a small silver card made of metal.
"It’s ready, Mr. Kirishima. Here is your guild badge."
The two girls stopped arguing when Maya came back. Mitsuki raised his head and took the badge.
"Thank you."
"Thank you as well, and welcome to the Luxar Guild."
After that, Maya hurried back to the second floor when a woman’s voice shouted her name. Mitsuki made a face watching her go. It was almost like a cartoon.
"Let’s see how it turned out," Jeanne said.
Ellegaard followed her.
"You’ve got your ticket now, rookie. Though that brat forgot to charge the registration fee."
Ignoring the girls for a moment, Mitsuki focused on the badge.

"To be honest, I’m not proud of it," the princess said with a modest laugh.
Ellegaard put her badge away and started walking toward the second floor.
"Now that you have your badge, it’s best to sell your mana fragments. Let’s go."
"You’ll get a good reward, Mitsuki."
’Is it money time already? I like money.’
Walking alongside the girls, Mitsuki focused on ignoring everything that had happened earlier, burying it deep within himself.
