Chapter 315: In the secret Library.

Then, fortunately...

He dismissed it with a shake of his head.

"Must be a residual mana flare..."

He left the room.

Kael nearly collapsed in relief.

Elysia leaned against the pillar, hand clutching her chest.

"...That was close."

Kael nodded.

"Yeah... too close."

Elysia gazed at him seriously.

"You should leave. This place is dangerous."

"You should leave too," Kael replied.

Elysia looked away.

"I can handle myself."

Kael frowned slightly.

"That’s not the point."

For a moment, they shared a strange silence.

A silence full of unspoken thoughts.

Finally, Elysia turned away.

"You saw nothing... understood?"

Kael hesitated but nodded.

"...Understood."

She walked away.

Kael watched her leave.

Then he turned to the prophecy again, staring at the words.

One will save.

One will destroy.

Only one will survive.

Kael whispered:

"...Who is it talking about?"

His chest felt heavy.

A strange dread curled inside him.

He looked at his hand—the one the dark orb had fused with.

Shadows flickered faintly across his skin.

Kael clenched his fist.

"...I won’t destroy anything. I won’t let it happen."

Elysia stepped toward the exit door, her hand already on the handle—

Thud.

Thud.

Thud.

Fast.

Urgent.

Her eyes widened. "No... no no no— someone’s coming!"

She spun around so suddenly that her hair whipped back and brushed the air like a sharp blade.

Kael looked up from the ancient book he was holding, confused.

"What? Who’s coming?"

"Hide!" Elysia hissed. "Now!"

Before Kael could react, she grabbed his wrist—hard—and yanked him behind the nearest shelf.

Kael stumbled, nearly dropping the book.

"W–What is happening?!"

"No time!" Elysia whispered. "Just stay quiet!"

The footsteps reached the outer hall.

"Honestly... every time there’s a malfunction... I have to fix it. Emergency work, my foot..."

Kael’s eyes widened.

"Wait— is that—?"

Elysia nodded sharply.

"Principal Alric."

Kael felt his stomach drop.

The principal of the Academy.

He held a glowing power stone in his hand as he stepped into the sealed chamber.

He looked around, suspiciously scanning the room.

"...Strange," he muttered. "The pedestal wasn’t glowing yesterday."

Kael whispered nervously into Elysia’s ear.

"What does he mean by malfunctioning? What kind of emergency is this?"

Elysia didn’t even look at him; she simply raised her foot—

SMACK.

She kicked Kael’s shin.

"OW—!"

Before the sound escaped his lips—

Elysia slapped her palm over Kael’s mouth.

Her eyes widened in pure terror.

"Shhhhh!! Are you insane!?" she whispered furiously.

Kael froze, staring at her, so close her breath brushed against his cheek, so close he could smell the faint mint scent from her lips.

Her hand softened a little, but she kept it firmly against his mouth.

They both slowly peeked through a gap between the books.

Principal Alric tilted his head, frowning.

"...That sounded like something falling."

Elysia and Kael stiffened.

Another sound echoed—

PLOP.

A book dropped on the floor behind them.

Their souls nearly left their bodies.

Kael whispered, horrified, his voice muffled by her hand.

"That wasn’t me."

"I know," Elysia whispered back, eyes trembling. "Don’t move."

Principal Alric’s brows furrowed.

"Hm?"

He walked toward the sound.

Slowly.

Each step echoed like doom approaching.

Thunk.

Thunk.

Thunk.

Kael’s heartbeat hammered so loudly Elysia could practically feel it against her arm.

Kael whispered again, voice barely a breath.

"Why is he walking this way—?"

Elysia elbowed his ribs lightly.

"Stop talking!"

"But you’re—"

"Not. Another. Word."

They tried not to breathe.

Principal Alric approached the exact aisle they were hiding behind.

His shadow fell over them.

Kael and Elysia felt their hearts drop.

"...Someone was here."

Alric muttered.

Elysia’s grip on Kael tightened.

Kael subconsciously leaned closer in panic.

"Who touched this bookcase?" the principal murmured.

Kael thought:

(We are so dead.)

Alric reached toward the very shelf they were hiding behind—

His fingers brushed a fallen book—

Then he slowly pulled the shelf aside—

Kael and Elysia held their breath—

But the shelf only groaned a little and did not reveal them.

Alric frowned.

"...Probably rats."

Elysia’s eyebrow twitched violently.

"Rats?? Us??"

Kael bit the inside of his cheek to stop himself from laughing nervously.

But then—

Alric suddenly turned around.

"Wait..."

His eyes narrowed.

"There’s mana leaking from behind that shelf."

Kael’s heart stopped.

Elysia felt her soul leave her body.

The principal began walking toward their exact hiding spot.

His boots thudded louder.

Thunk.

Thunk.

Thunk.

Kael whispered desperately.

"Elysia, what do we do?"

"I—I don’t know!" she whispered back.

"We’re going to get expelled."

"Worse. We’ll be interrogated."

"Even worse! They’ll think we’re dating!"

Kael’s eyes widened in horror.

"What?! That’s not—!"

"Shhhhhhh!!!"

But Alric’s footsteps were approaching—

His hand reached toward the shelf—

Elysia’s mind raced.

"We need a hiding spot. A better one. Now."

Her eyes darted around and—

"There!"

A small square ventilation hole near the bottom corner of the wall.

Barely large enough for one person.

Absolutely NOT large enough for two.

"Perfect?"

"No."

"Necessary?"

"YES."

"Kael—move!" she whispered.

"What—hey—!"

She shoved him toward the hole.

Kael landed on his hands and knees with a quiet thud.

"Elysia— it’s too small—!"

"No choice— get in!"

"I can’t fit—!"

"You’re skinny! Yes, you can!"

"That’s rude!"

She shoved him again.

Kael wriggled into the hole like a panicked rabbit.

Elysia crawled in after him—

Too fast.

"Wait wait— Elysia—!"

THUMP!

She squeezed in behind him, her entire body pressed against his back.

The hole was so small their heads were forced sideways, their shoulders jammed together painfully.

Kael’s face turned bright red.

Elysia’s ears burned hot.

"Don’t. Move," she whispered.

"I—I’m not!" Kael whispered.

"You are!!"

"That’s because you’re pushing—!"

"I’m not pushing!"

"You’re literally on top of me!"

"Do you want the principal to find us!?"

Kael went silent.

"...No."

"Then stay still!"

Alric’s footsteps stopped right outside.

Kael and Elysia froze.

They could only hear—

silence.

A deadly silence where even their soft breaths echoed.

Principal Alric muttered:

"...Strange. This bookshelf is slightly moved."

Elysia’s whole body tensed painfully.

Kael’s heart felt like it was about to explode.

Alric stepped closer.

Kael and Elysia felt the vibration through the stone floor.

Alric muttered again.

"If anyone is sneaking around the forbidden library... there will be consequences."

Kael swallowed hard.

Elysia shut her eyes.

Alric leaned down.

His hand brushed the shelf—

Kael wanted to disappear.

Elysia wanted to scream.

Then—

A loud buzzing noise filled the hallway outside.

"Principal Alric!" a voice called. "We need you in the administrative wing! Urgent!"

Alric sighed loudly.

"This place never gives me a moment’s peace."

He stood.

His footsteps slowly retreated.

Thunk.

Thunk.

Thunk...

Further and gone.

Elysia exhaled shakily.

Kael also released a breath he didn’t know he was holding.

But they were still crammed in the tiny hole.

Elysia whispered:

"...Kael."

"Yes—?"

"...Move."

"I can’t. You’re blocking me."

"I’m not blocking— the hole is too small!"

"You pushed me in!"

"You should’ve crawled faster!"

"I DID crawl fast!"

"No, you didn’t!" 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

"Yes, I did!"

The cramped space made everything more ridiculous.

Kael wiggled slightly, trying to free his arm.

Elysia gasped.

"S-stop moving!"

"I’m trying to get my arm unstuck!"

"You’re making it worse!"

"How else am I supposed to move!?"

"Not like that!"

"Then how!?"

"...Carefully!"

Kael groaned.

"This is impossible."

"It’s your fault."

"It is NOT my fault— you dragged me in here!"

Elysia hesitated.

"I... I panicked."

Kael blinked.

"...You panicked?"

"Well—yes! What did you expect!? The principal almost caught us!"

Kael became quiet.

"...You were scared?"

"I— I was not." Elysia whispered aggressively.

"You sound like you were."

"S-Shut up."

Kael tried to shift his arm away, but the tiny hole they both squeezed into was so narrow that even breathing felt dangerous.

Elysia’s face was barely an inch from his. Her breath brushed against his cheek — warm, shaky, and furious.

"Kael..." she whispered sharply, eyes blazing.

"I—I didn’t mean—" he mouthed silently, panicked, trying to pull his hand back without brushing against anything again.

But the cramped space betrayed him.

His elbow slipped.

His hand bumped against her big breast.

Elysia’s eyes widened like she was about to scream.

Her mouth opened—

Kael panicked.

On pure instinct, he kissed her over her lips.

"Please don’t make noise!" he whispered desperately.

Elysia froze, cheeks flushing bright red — not from anger, but from the sudden closeness. Her fingers gripped his wrist, ready to throw his hand off—

FOOTSTEPS.

Principal Alric had turned back.

"...Strange. I definitely heard something," he muttered, walking straight toward their hiding place.

Elysia’s anger evaporated instantly.

She grabbed Kael’s wrist and pressed his hand harder against her mouth, giving him a death glare that clearly meant:

"If you make even ONE sound, I will kill you."

Kael nodded violently.

Principal Alric’s boots thudded across the floor.

He walked closer... closer...

His shadow stretched across the floor, nearing the bookshelf.

Kael and Elysia held their breaths.

The Principal stopped right in front of the shelf.

"...Hm."

He leaned forward, peering down between the cracks.

Kael felt Elysia’s nails dig into his arm.

He bit his tongue.

His lungs burned.

Principal Alric reached out—

Elysia squeezed her eyes shut.

Just as they stood in silence, the main part of Kael’s body was standing.

Elysia’s face turned red.

(Kaelll.... Just you wait)she said in he thought.

Kael’s heartbeat hammered so loudly he was sure the whole Academy could hear it.

Then—

"...Ah. Just dust."

The principal shook his head. "I’m imagining things."

He stepped away, muttering about "old age" and "students messing around again," and slowly walked out of the chamber.

The moment his footsteps faded—

Both Kael and Elysia exhaled violently.

Elysia shoved Kael’s hand off her mouth.

"You—! Do you have ANY idea—!"

Kael put a finger to his lips. "Shhh—he might come back!"
