Transmigrating as an Extra, But the Heroine Has Regressed?!-Chapter 316: Inside the Beast Fence.
Earlier, Behind the Beast Fence.
Kaigaku gritted his teeth as he kicked a loose stone at the fence.
"Tsk. First-years, first-years, FIRST-YEARS!!" he growled, pacing in anger.
He still hadn’t forgotten the humiliation of yesterday.
Kael’s punch.
The broken sword.
The third-years whispered behind his back.
Every memory burned like fire.
Kaigaku’s friend stood behind him, nervously glancing left and right.
"Kaigaku... maybe we should go back before a professor sees us—"
But Kaigaku wasn’t listening.
His eyes were fixed on a cage behind the beast fence. A large creature growled inside—scar-like marks across its fur, eyes glowing faint blue.
A Frost-Fang Direwolf, rank-C monster normally used only for second- or third-year exams. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Kaigaku stared at the beast and smiled darkly.
"So... these kids were walking around here yesterday, huh? Thinking they’re something great?"
His hand reached toward the cage lock.
"Only second year and third year students are allowed to go there".
"Kaigaku... WAIT! That’s too dangerous!" his friend shouted.
Kaigaku walked alone down the quiet northern path of the academy, hands shoved in his pockets, jaw clenched in irritation.
"Tch... first-years getting permission to walk around the Beast Fence? What a joke," he muttered, kicking a pebble aside.
"Especially that Kael... acting like he’s something."
He reached the tall iron fence that wrapped around the academy’s controlled beast habitat.
The place was always quiet in the morning—professors busy, upper-years in their own training rooms, guards stationed far at the front.
"Perfect."
Kaigaku looked around.
No students.
No guards were there.
He smirked.
"Good. No one is sticking their noses around."
He approached the security post beside the fence—a small stone box with a rune-locked mechanism. Normally, it needed two professors to open.
But Kaigaku wasn’t normal.
He crouched beside the rune panel, pulling out a thin metal needle from his sleeve.
"I remembered the old man doing this last year," he whispered, inserting the needle. A faint spark crackled. "Just press here... twist... and—"
Click.
The barrier flickered.
The magical shield covering the inner gate rippled and vanished.
Kaigaku grinned.
"Heh. Too easy."
He pushed the gate slightly.
Crrreeeaaak—
A heavy sound echoed, and Kaigaku froze.
He listened carefully.
He exhaled.
"...Close call."
Then he slipped inside and approached a reinforced cage deeper within the fenced area. Inside the cage, a large beast slept — a horned, silver-furred predator, breathing heavily.
Kaigaku smirked cruelly.
"Let’s see how the first-years handle this."
He tapped the gate with his sword hilt.
TING—
The beast opened its eyes slowly.
"Wake up, monster," Kaigaku whispered.
He stepped back, raising his sword, and struck the side of the lock.
CRACK!
The beast let out a low growl.
Kaigaku didn’t wait.
He immediately sprinted back toward the fence.
Behind him—
BOOOOM!
The cage burst open.
Trees shook.
Birds flew away.
A monstrous roar ripped through the air.
Kaigaku grinned as he escaped outside the fence, sealing the gate behind him with one quick rune tap.
He shoved his hands back into his pockets and walked away, whistling casually.
"No one will know. And when chaos breaks out... I’ll just act surprised."
He didn’t look back.
He didn’t need to.
The beast was already running.
But Kaigaku had already pulled the lever.
CLANK
KRAAAANG!
The cage door opened.
A cold gust burst outward.
"O-oi... calm down. I only wanted to scare the first-years... not—"
But the beast roared.
ROOOAAAARRRR!!
The sound tore through the whole training district.
Kaigaku stumbled backward, fell onto his rear, and paled.
"Run— RUN!" he screamed.
But it was too late.
The beast fence of Arcadia Academy was a restricted zone—a vast enclosed habitat filled with controlled magical creatures meant only for supervised practical classes.
"I won’t let a first-year outshine me."
He spat to the side and turned his attention to the fence.
The Beast Fence always had a strange silence to it.
Even though it was part of the academy grounds, students rarely entered unless guided by professors.
The wooden walkways were cracked in places, the tall iron bars rusted, and the frost-covered ground inside shimmered with a pale, dangerous beauty.
That morning, dozens of first-years moved along the outer section, chatting as they observed low-level beasts behind safe partitions.
They weren’t allowed deeper inside, but curiosity had a way of erasing common sense.
Cecelia, Veyla, Rowan, and several others wandered close to the icy sectors, pointing and whispering about the strange claw marks frozen into the ground.
"It’s colder here..." Veyla rubbed her arms.
Cecelia nodded. "This area holds cold-type beasts. I read about them in a manual."
Rowan gulped. "Cold-type? Don’t tell me we’ll meet something like an ice bear."
"No," Cecelia reassured him. "The higher-ranked ones are sealed far insi—"
CRRAAAACK—!!
The iron gate far ahead jolted violently.
Every student froze.
"...What was that?" Rowan whispered.
Another shuddering shake.
The gate trembled.
Frost began spreading from underneath it.
A dreadful aura washed through the frozen air, sharp enough to prick every student’s skin.
"What’s happening?" someone in the back asked.
No one could answer.
Then the gate bent outward—just slightly, but enough for anyone to understand:
Something inside was trying to get out.
A few students instinctively stepped back.
"It’s sealed... right?" another whispered.
Cecelia opened her mouth to speak—
BOOOOOOOM!!!
The gate burst open in a shower of ice shards.
Students screamed and ducked, some falling onto the snow.
A massive wolf stepped out, its fur pale silver streaked with icy blue. Frost dripped from its fangs like vapor.
A chilling mist rose around its feet, freezing the grass wherever it stepped.
Frost-Fang Direwolf.
Rank-C.
"W-What kind of beast is that!?" Rowan cried.
Cecelia’s pupils shrank. "A Frost-Fang Direwolf!"
The students panicked immediately.
"RUN!"
"Get back!"
"Move!!"
The beast didn’t wait.
It lunged.
SHIIING—!!
The Direwolf’s claws scraped the ground, sending frozen dust exploding into the air. It covered a ten-meter distance in seconds.
A boy named Jerran wasn’t fast enough.
"NO—!"
CRUNCH—!!
The Direwolf’s claws slammed into him, sending him flying across the frost-covered earth.
He rolled and skidded until he hit a tree, coughing out blood.
"JERRAN!!"
His friends rushed toward him, but the Direwolf snarled so fiercely they dropped to the ground in fear.
Its chilling growl seeped into their bones.
Another student attempted to run.
The Direwolf whipped around—
FWOOSH—!!
A wave of freezing air blasted from its mouth.
It struck three first-years mid-sprint, instantly coating their legs in a thick layer of ice.
"MY LEGS—!! IT HURTS—!!"
"I-I can’t move!!"
"HELP—!"
Their screams filled the air.
Students tried scattering, but the narrow walkway inside the Beast Fence limited their movement. Some crashed into each other trying to escape.
The Direwolf pounced again.
THUD!!
It landed on top of a group of four students, knocking them down like dominoes. One girl shielded her friend with her arms but still took the brunt of the hit.
"Aahh—!! My arm...!!"
The Direwolf’s icy breath drifted over them, covering the ground with dangerous frost that numbed their limbs.
Rowan grabbed Cecelia’s wrist. "Cecelia—RUN! We have to go!"
But Cecelia didn’t move.
Her eyes were glued to the wounded students.
"This... this can’t be happening. That monster isn’t supposed to be out here."
Another scream ripped through the air.
The Direwolf had caught a boy by his cloak.
It swung him like a ragdoll before flinging him against the fence.
The iron bars bent.
"GET UP! SOMEONE HELP—!!"
"No! Stay down or it’ll see you!"
"WE’RE GOING TO DIE HERE!"
The Direwolf stomped forward, its breath chilling the ground around the fallen students. Ice spread like roots across the earth.
The first-years were overwhelmed by terror.
None had real combat experience against a Rank-C beast.
Some hadn’t even awakened proper mana control.
The Direwolf growled and lowered its body, preparing to lunge again—
A boy mustered courage and threw a stone.
"GET AWAY FROM THEM!"
The stone bounced harmlessly off the beast’s fur.
The Direwolf turned.
The boy’s face was drained of color.
"Oh no."
WHOOSH—!!
The Direwolf leapt toward him.
"MOVE!" another student pushed him aside at the last second, but got hit instead. They both fell to the ground, sliding painfully across the frost.
Cecelia clenched her fists.
"This... this is because someone opened the frozen gate," she whispered. "No beast would escape otherwise."
"Cecelia, we need to retreat!" Veyla cried. "We can’t handle this beast!"
"But if we leave now—those injured students..." Cecelia bit her lip. "Someone has to help them!"
"But we’ll die too!!"
Veyla wasn’t wrong.
Dozens were already injured.
Five couldn’t stand.
Three had frozen legs.
Others lay groaning on the ground.
And the Direwolf showed no intention of stopping.
It howled—an ear-splitting cry that vibrated through the entire Beast Fence.
Frost burst from its mouth and spread outward.
The temperature dropped so suddenly that breath turned into white mist instantly.
"AHH—my hands are freezing!"
"I can’t move my fingers—!"
"Help! H-Help!!"
One student lost balance and slipped onto the icy ground.
The Direwolf’s ears perked.
It sensed weakness.
It turned toward her and began padding forward, slowly, savoring the hunt.
Cecelia stepped forward before she realized it.
Her breathing quickened.
(Damn it... if only I had my mana in full control... if only I had something...)
The Direwolf lowered its head.
Frost built between its jaws.
The fallen girl whimpered. "N-No... p-please—"
The beast lunged—
Cecelia moved without thinking.
She sprinted forward, slipping on the frost, nearly falling.
"STOP—!"
She reached the girl and tried pulling her away—
SHAAAA!!
The Direwolf’s claws grazed her shoulder.
Cecelia gasped as pain burned through her body.
