Chapter 420: Slippery-love

’I don’t have any preference as long as the baby is healthy and has mental strength."

Not surprising of course, that she wanted a baby with mental strength, all the people in this world did.

Rubbing her head against Mega’s shoulders, Scarlet acted like a spoiled child. It did not fail to cross her mind that she would probably give birth a few moths after her mother, if all went well with her pregnancy.

This long life really made things very tricky in this world, her parents who were already grandparents were still having their own children.

How amazing!! freeωebnovēl.c૦m

"Mother, should I take I take you out on a date tonight?" Out of nowhere, Scarlet asked her mother.

It surprised both Esong and Mega, and they looked at her quickly.

"Really!!" Mega gasped and squealed happily.

"Mmm." Scarlet nodded. "You work so hard taking care of the castle, of us, caring for Justin and Illa. We on the other hand do not spend much time with you, especially since we are grown up."

Her siblings did not even think about how lonely their mother was as they left home more and more. Maybe empty nest syndrome was what drove her to become pregnant again.

Apparently Gregor and Halley wanted to live at school. Between Adler, Beord and Elroy sleeping out more often, Carolyn moving to London, Fey locking herself in her room most of the time or out in the business district, also in London and Scarlet’s busy schedule, none of them had much time for their parents anymore.

"Can I join?" Esong asked. "We can go to the bowling alley in London, I have reserved a place for today. Mother-in-law, you two can consider me to be your driver, assistant bodyguard and whatever you need for the night."

"Yay." Scarlet asked.

She tugged on Mega’s shoulder and emphasized, "Mother, it’s a plan. We three are going bowling and then we can go to the karaoke place. We should spend the night in the London castle, the ministers have been bugging us to move there anyway so we might as well go and test the comfortability."

"Can we go shopping?" Mega requested.

She looked at Scarlet with hopeful eyes, a look that was so unnatural for her. It was like they had switched roles, Mega was the daughter and Scarlet the mother.

"Yes, whatever you want my dearest mom, Mega Su. We can go after lunch, I still have a broadcast to do but after that, we can begin our mother-daughter date."

Positively giddy, Mega applauded, and stood up.

"I have to go and pick out a dress." she said.

Pictures of Scarlet and Esong always circulated when they were together so if she was to tag along, she could not be shabby.

"You look beautiful in orange mom." Scarlet told her.

"An orange dress it is." Mega said.

"Try a jumpsuit, or jeans and a top, we are going to a bowling alley after all." Scarlet could not picture the dress working out perfectly.

The bowling alley had other activities besides bowling like, bungee jumping, rolling around in zero gravity balls, tubing, wall racing an activity that made humans give spiders a race for the ability to walk up side down. A dress was not really appropriate for these activities and who was to say that they would not do all this tonight?

After Mega left, Esong took her place and sat down on the swing, next to Scarlet.

He put his arm around her neck and drew her closer so that her upper body was leaning against him completely.

"You are such a good daughter, no_, a great one." he complimented her.

Scarlet thought about his words and a small part of her wanted to say, I doubt that. She barely spent any time with her parents.

"If my mother was calm, I would invite her to go with us. But every time I bring up your name she turns to the wall and ignores me." he said, and sighed sadly. "Why can’t she just be happy for me, us?" he continued on.

He asked the question in a voice which Scarlet thought was quite melancholy.

"It’s because, she has prejudices which were mostly taught to her by the society she grew up in. To your mother I am the daughter of a baron who is unworthy of you and nothing will ever change that. She despises me, and I don’t know if that will ever change.

I went to the hospital to visit her two days ago and she threw a fork at me."

Scarlet recalled that moment with some terror because if she did not have mental strength or the reflexes of a reaper, Emory would have stabbed her in the eye with that fork.

"I heard." Esong squeezed her shoulders. "I am sorry."

She shrugged, there was no need for him to apologize, the situation was as it was.

"Emily said that you apologized to her for the fight and asked her to apologize for hitting you. Why did you bother?" he inquired.

He raised his hand and tussled her hair slowly, before pulling out the hairband which was holding her ponytail up.

Because he kept doing this to her, he now had a collection of her hairbands in his storage bracelet that he had claimed ownership of.

Scarlet pinched his arm lightly and raised her upper lip in a sneering manner.

"Anyway I sort of apologized to her because a glimpse into death made me realize that all these petty squabbles were useless."

All that she had seen on Nordem showed the fragility of human life. Today you were here and tomorrow you were gone.

Why spend your short life span hating and filling your heart with unnecessary rage?

"Besides, she is your mother and Justin’s grandmother. Someday he might decide to form a relationship with her and I don’t want to be the one who stops him because I don’t like her for some reason.

Something like that could strain our mother-son relationship.

You have seen how my siblings behaved towards our parents, it was less than desirable and downright disrespectful.

When children grow up, you lose control over them. They decide things for themselves whether you approve or not. Just look at yourself, your mother doesn’t approve of me but you love me anyway."

She deliberately slipped the word in there and held her breath, waiting for him to deny it.

She gave him little furtive glances from below, not daring to look him in the eyes.

A part of her was beating itself up inside, calling her stupid for saying such a thing.

Why was he quiet? Say something already, she screamed in her mind.

Esong saw the state of her nervousness and smiled slyly, squeezed her shoulder, leaned his head down and whispered into her ear, "And I do not intend to stop."

Scarlet covered her mouth and made a hic sound.
