Chapter 429: The shark and it’s teeth

Being told that a member of the Marley family here to see her when she woke up was not Scarlet’s idea of a great way to start the day. Things had been quiet on the Reya front for a while so what had come out of the woods now?

With only forty minutes to prepare for the temple and meet whoever was here to see her, Scarlet rushed through her bath and went to the governor’s hall.

Her face dropped when she saw not one but six people.

"Hello, good morning, I have only ten minutes to spare so let’s make this quick." she told them.

She sat down in the governor’s chair, central in the room and in the highest position. With the Marley’s she considered it to be a necessity to remind them of who she was.

Precious and Tion followed her, finding seats below her at the front.

Viscount Marley had come to this meeting, he was standing at the forefront of the unwanted guests. She recognized him from the many press conferences he had given in the last few weeks. She also recognised Reya’s brother, the rest were new faces to her.

He stepped forward to address her on their behalf.

"Thank you governor Scarlet, please allow me to apologize for being the cause of your early morning." he pretended to be polite.

His smile was like that of a shark, nothing about it was warm.

"I am glad that you are aware that you have bothered me on my day off. I don’t know how you managed to weasel yourselves a meeting with me but I intend to look into it and make sure it doesn’t happen again.

My office days are Monday to Friday, office hours eight to five. I keep a very strict schedule. If this is not urgent request for another meeting."

Scarlet had no desire to be soft about dealing with them.

"Again, I tender my apologies governor Scarlet, I have been trying to schedule a meeting with you for three weeks now but I have not been successful.

Your secretary keeps telling me that you are fully booked for the following two months and the earliest I can see you is..."

"Viscount, you have five minutes left."

She chimed in and pointed to the round clock on the wall before he would bore her to death.

Why was his voice similar to that of the history teacher she had back on earth? It was so dull, almost putting her to sleep.

The viscount spoke slowly as if he had all the time in the world. He was not that old, he could speed up. Where was the vigorous man that was bellowing like a bull in heat when Reya admitted her theft to the public?

"This is about my daughter, Reya." he said.

"And," she answered.

She rolled her finger like Mr. Rodney did when he wanted her to speed up.

"She tried to end her life yesterday because of this mess. The empress has gone out of her way to see to it that Reya is ostracized from high society."

Scarlet rolled her tongue and and played with it.

What exactly did he want her to do about the empress?

"It is true that Reya stole a few mecha designs that did not belong to her." he admitted.

"A few!!" Scarlet blurted.

Tion snorted and Precious chocked on a chuckle.

A few would mean one or two mecha designs but that was not the case in this point. If it was a cookie jar, Reya’s hand had been in it, on it, around it, over it and under it. The woman was being accused of stealing one hundred five drafts and seven finished mechas.

That was not a few, the viscount was under representing the excessiveness of his daughter’s theft.

"I have been told that you have some sway with her and I am hoping that you will put in a good word for us."

While she thought, Viscount Marley had continued talking.

"Viscount I think you overestimate the sway I have with the empress. If you have not looked up my name then I will share it with you. I am Scarlet Su, not Wu.

Tell me, what exactly am I supposed to say to the empress? You should know that she was embarrassed greatly by this debacle. Nobody sung more praises about Reya Marley that she did. frёewebηovel.cѳm

She practically toted her out to teenage girls everywhere as the an exemplary role model.

She went on royal press tours with her, gave her many privileges. If the empress wants her pound of flesh, I suggest you hide Reya away from her eyes until she calms down."

Viscount Marley was not agreeable to her words, and he clenched his jaw.

"You are not innocent in this." he said through gritted teeth.

"Oh yeah, prove it." Scarlet responded.

That was what she was waiting for, the shark to bear its teeth after all, that was his true reason for coming. He wanted to threaten her and rope her forcefully into helping them.

How dare he say that she was not innocent in this as if she had been Reya’s assistant thief! Did she aid Reya in any way?

If he thought that he had a grip on her tail, he was sorely mistaken.

"Time is up, Tion, escort them out of my castle." She said sternly.

Standing up, she ignored the loud calls of the viscount and walked back inside the castle.

Marching like a one woman army, she went down to the lobby to find out how they had reached the inner sanctity of her castle. Clearly her security needed to be tightened up some more.

She found Esong, he had already reached there before she did and judging from the booming of his voice, he was displeased.

The guards being berated had their heads down and their leader was the only one looking Esong in the eye.

"This had better be the last case of such nuisance or you will all be fired." he roared.

He dismissed them and turned his body around.

"Mm, Scar, I thought I smelled you." he said.

"Is this related to the Marley’s?" she asked him.

He took her hand and led her to the waiting cars.

"One of the guards happens to come from a noble family. A low ranked noble family and he was contacted by his father with a request to do viscount Marley a favor.

I heard about his presence in our castle from Tion and I came out to give them a warning. The guard has also been suspended by me for now. I am considering firing him."

He looked at her, waiting for her to defend the guard or express any discomfort at the firing him part.

She pointed to herself and shook her head.

"Do whatever you want, I am floored and miffed by this invasion into my house. This means if he had come with his private army to kill me, the guards would have opened the gates wide and allowed him in. As a matter of fact, every guard that knew about it and allowed him in should be fired."

"Woah!" he held his hands up.
