Chapter 589: Fear the emperor, dread the crown prince.

Minister Campbell’s cheeks twitched. A command from the emperor was a command, no matter how illogical it was. There was no need to smile in this tense moment but he had to do so anyway.

An unnatural smile formed on his lips as they rose up forcefully.

The emperor scowled. More anger filled him for some reason when the minister obeyed his command.

"Don’t smile." He commanded.

Minister Campbell’s lips immediately thinned out and he looked at the ground.

"Chin up." The emperor commanded.

Without a choice, he raised his chin and faced the most powerful man in the empire.

"I give you one hour Campbell, one hour. Should you fail me then I expect to see your resignation announcement which will be followed by an audit into your wealth that could result in you being moved to the Red star." The emperor waved his hand gesturing for him to exit the palace.

Minister Campbell gasped, lowered his head and bowed, then walked backwards until he exited the throne room.

In the hallway, he met Markay and Carolyn that were on their way to meet the emperor.

"Minister Campbell." The crown prince stopped him.

"Yes, Crown prince." He lowered his head and responded.

"Look up." Markay told him.

Minister Campbell did as told and he met Markay’s gaze. It was intense and cold, pale blue eyes that made him feel as if he was locked outside in winter.

If the emperor was feared, then his son was dreaded. It was better, on any day to face the wrath of the emperor as compared to that of the seventh prince.

They could whitewash him all they wanted and refer to him as the prince of warmth but that is not what or who he was. The prince of death was the prince of death, and nothing could ever erase that.

Markay put a hand on Minister Campbell’s shoulder and the man flinched and shrunk himself away from the touch which he thought was scalding. His skin felt as if it had been set on fire which was a fiction of his imagination.

"My father, what sort of mood is he in?" Markay asked him.

"Un....unhappy, Crown prince." He responded, nervously as he stammered over his words.

Markay nodded. "Mmm, I can understand why. An untruthful and slanderous attack on one of the Wu’s in the media is a slap on the face of the royal house. Your ministry was created for the sole purpose of handling such matters before hand.

All articles related to the royal house, true or false are run by your office first. We don’t abuse the freedoms of our people like free speech but this in case, it’s necessary.

This is malignant terrorizing of a child, a five year old child. It needs to be stopped immediately."

"I understand, Crown prince. Some of these articles were not sent to my office. I am on my way to order that they be pulled down." He explained.

Carolyn scoffed and said, "That won’t be enough. If a small lesson is not taught then they could get worse. They have broken a law by publishing unsubstantiated claims, slandered a royal and a governor.

I think a one month ban on all those medias is in order. Not just their online presence but their physical offices as well should be sealed. Additionally, their old articles, sources and the like should be investigated. Fake news is a plague that will turn our peaceful empire into the Lunar federation if not stopped."

Everyone knew the fate of the Lunar federation. The rebels had used the press as a weapon to weaken the ruling family. A small war was escalated thanks to the press and the empire was now under new leadership.

Some of the royals had escaped to seek refuge from other planets but nobody was willing to harbor them. The new emperor of the Lunar federation had put out bounties on their heads. They were fugitives and all sorts of renegades and bounty hunters were chasing after them.

The news had even spread a rumor that they had escaped with an untold volume of wealth so space pirates had joined the hunt.

The royal house of Wu would not let the events which had occurred on the Lunar federation to take place on the Sun star. The royal family was keeping a close eye on different media houses. One wrong move and one would find themselves on their list of enemies.

Despite the spats and differences between nobles and commoners, the Sun star was rather peaceful and thriving. It was just some people with their own agendas that were seeking to blow things up for their own selfish reasons.

These media houses had just handed the royal family a perfect reason to get involved in the news and manipulate it as they pleased.

Minister Campbell bit his tongue and smiled nervously. "Yes Crown princess. I will do as you suggest."

"It’s not a suggestion, it’s advice. We wouldn’t want anyone thinking that the future empress is cruel or throwing her weight around." Markay told him. free𝑤ebnovel.com

"I understand." Minister Campbell lowered the upper half of his body even more.

In part, it was to avoid the touch of the crown prince and the other was to show his respect.

Markay’s hand stayed steady on the minister’s shoulder and he even slapped it lightly two times in a form of encouragement. Not that minister Campbell felt encouraged because he felt threatened.

In his hyper mind, the minister read into the slaps as a warning that the crown prince would harm him physically if he failed to as instructed.

"You are dismissed minister. I am rooting for you. You have been the best minister of press we have had so far." Markay told him.

He and Carolyn turned and left without looking backwards. Minister Campbell did not dare to raise his head as they walked away, not until they arrived at the doors leading inside the emperor’s throne room.

When he did finally look at them, his eyes met Carolyn’s and she smiled.

The smile freaked him out. He was suddenly reminded of the dynamics between the emperor and the empress. There was another saying, fear the emperor, hide from the empress. He could see the dynamics of the emperor and empress in this couple. In the future, Carolyn Su would be just like the current empress. No, given who she was set to marry, she might be worse.

Minister Campbell hurried out of the palace to begin handling the matter before it could turn into a wild fire. However, a wild fire always spread before it could be contained and right now, someone had just thrown fresh gasoline on it.
