Transmigrating from a zombie world to become the mecha kings wife-Chapter 649: Search for Nyx.

They both looked above, making out traces of the old deity’s palace. It was not a place anyone just showed up to otherwise both of them would pay a visit. It was really too suspicious for two deities to drop in and then leave so quickly without explaining much.

"Come on," She told Severus, "Let’s continue looking around. I should find Nyx as well, we need to talk."

Severus had just lifted a paw to walk when Scarlet uttered those words out. He turned around and sought solidification of her intentions from her mouth. The last time they talked about Nyx or Esong, she cut him off so quickly. She planned not to pursue the matter temporarily, waiting until the children had arrived to deal with that mess. Why then had she just decided to confront the reaper?

For a whole ten seconds, the hound just stared at Scarlet, mute, saying nothing.

"I have surprised you, haven’t I?" she asked him.

"Damn right." he answered. "Why now?"

She placed a hand over heart which felt empty now that the bond was gone. She hadn’t paid much attention to it when it was there but now that it was gone, it sort of felt like she had lost something.

"The bond reacted, there must be a reason why. Let’s head to the lonely river village."

"We may not be able to get in." Severus told her.

She raised her hand with a small green spark cackling in her palms. "I have got that covered I reckon."

If the flame didn’t work then...., Scarlet frowned. What would she do if it failed to work? Perhaps finding Maddox was her other option.

Hound and reaper teleported to the lonely river village. When they arrived outside it’s entrance, it was crowded and busy. Reapers__, the natural born ones were manning it from the sky. Weapons were being moved in and out. Loud banging and the sound of weapons clashing against each other loudly could be heard from outside. One would think the war had already started in this place.

Scarlet and Severus fell in line because she didn’t want to create a spectacle unnecessarily. As traffic drew closer to the entrance, so did they. When they arrived, two male reapers whose faces were unknown to Scarlet stopped them.

"State your name and business." One of them said.

"Hold out your arm for testing." The other said. He looked at Severus and said, "Paw."

For some odd reason, this reminded Scarlet of a scene from her old earth. After the zombies attacked, people barricaded themselves in cities and settlements called safe zones. To venture into one, you needed identification and a good reason to be there.

They would also test you for bite marks, diseases and other indicators of possible infection. The situation could quite easily be a reflection of this one. She didn’t think that preparing for war between deities could be similar to the actions of humans.

"Scarlet, and my business is personal." she replied. Curiously, she looked at the two reapers and asked, "What’s with all the checking? I thought we were all reapers here, sisters and brothers."

One of them shot her an unimpressed glance and looked at her arm.

"You are not among those those with assigned duty here, you don’t bear the mark." he flung her arm away.

Scarlet was not going to play cat and mouse with them. She was here for Nyx, only and only him. Whatever else they were keeping secret in here, she would probably find out later anyway.

"I am here for Nyx." she said, in a dull voice.

Both of the reapers froze for two seconds, looked at her and then each other. One of them, laughed then. In times of war, everyone was searching for Nyx but it didn’t mean that they could see him as they wanted. He was the general of the underworld army, a busy reaper with many duties. Their instructions as regards Nyx were simple, if anybody came looking for him, he wasn’t here.

"He is not here." They both replied, at the same time and in the same tone.

"Well that’s not unbelievable at all." Scarlet mumbled.

She released her wings and simply flew up. If she couldn’t walk in, then she might as well fly in. Her plan would of course not be as simple as she thought because even the skies above lonely river were being monitored. Quickly, she was surrounded by five reapers. They locked their wings together and formed a barrier around Scarlet.

One of them, a male with gold hair and brown eyes said to her politely. "Please turn back if you do not bear the mark. You seem to be one of us, so you should understand what is happening here."

"Wait." There was a female in the group and she stopped the others. "If she is one of us then why doesn’t she bear the mark?"

All five reapers looked at Scarlet warily.

Scarlet figured then that was why the protection was heavy. It was not other grim reapers that they were keeping out but intruders of other kind.

"I am not a life angel, I am a grim reaper. My name is Scarlet, you can search for me on the forum. I am the famous reaper that was tricked by our great deity the lord of death into this gig." She touched her face and tilted her head from side to side. ’Well, I did look different back then but my energy is the same

Look, don’t waste my time just tell me if Nyx is inside or not. I need to have a very serious conversation with him. It’s a life and death matter."

They didn’t respond, not even to her life and death manner reference which frustrated Scarlet a bit. She could easily get through them but she didn’t want to because she was saving her energy. She didn’t want anybody catching onto her special powers before the war started.

A different reaper appeared above them. Scarlet felt her before she even arrived. This one was stronger than the others, more dominant. When she looked up, she saw a female reaper, with wings larger and double in size of hers.

"Talk about size difference." Scarlet mumbled. She felt a bit jealous. Her wings were baby wings in compared to these grown up ones.

This reaper could carry two large planes on her back, and support them with her wings. She also happened to be beautiful, a bit masculine in her appearance though with that sharp jaw line.

The others flew back a bit and bowed politely when they saw her.

"You are Scarlet." she came to a stop, hovering in the air directly in front of Scarlet."

"Yes." Scarlet nodded.

"He is not here." she said.

"Can you prove it?" Scarlet asked her.

The reaper smiled, which surprised the others because Scarlet heard them gasp. She wanted to turn around and ask them why all the fuss, it was just a smile after all.

The female reaper looked at Scarlet and said softly, "It’s you. Trust me, he would come running if he could for you but he can’t right now. He is away on other duties. War pulls us all in different directions."
