Transmigrating from a zombie world to become the mecha kings wife-Chapter 651: The gods can have their war.
Chapter 651: The gods can have their war.
The words sister-in-law rolled off her tongue so naturally, as if they had always been naturally close. Scarlet didn’t mind as long as Lanta’s loyalties truly stayed with her and she was good to Beord and the Su family.
She leaned back in her chair as well, got a soft blanket from her storage bracelet and snapped her fingers in the direction of the fire place.
A green fire quickly started, spreading warmth rapidly through the loving room.
Lanta raised her brows high. Well, that was quite new apparently. It was also another reason for her to give Scarlet the respect her power earned her. This was not something she had seen among ordinary reapers after all.
After making herself even more comfortable, Scarlet faced Lanta and opened her mouth. "A lot of things seem to have gone missing in my absentia. What can you fill me in on?"
"Who else but them?" Lanta replied.
She had to be more cautious in the way she spoke about the deities. While Scarlet could afford to have a loose tongue and say all she wanted, it wasn’t the same for others.
"They like to watch us dance don’t they?" Scarlet asked her.
Lanta nodded. "Everything was taken away to be squeezed for answers. All the creatures you kept as spies and the humans you were closest too, the deities checked in with them all."
"Hmmm." Scarlet made a deep sound from her throat. It was just as she thought. "What happened to Ramslin? I can’t seem to find him anywhere."
Lanta shrugged and shook her head. "Beats me quiet honestly." She looked at Scarlet curiously and asked, "Was it not your doing?"
Scarlet had made it clear to her in no certain terms that Ramslin was not to come close to the Su’s. But, Ramslin had vanished around the same time when Scarlet did. Lanta had always assumed that Scarlet packed up the creepy male reaper when she was leaving.
"Would I be asking if I had him?" Scarlet asked her.
Lanta had another thought which she shared then. "Maybe the deities took him as well."
Scarlet held off on responding to that possibility. If they did, Lythia would have told her surely. The two times she had met the female deity so far, nothing about Ramslin had come up. His absence worried her quite a bit because Tridon’s warning still rung in her mind.
Perhaps, she should have erased the reaper when he told her to do so. She would certainly have less to worry about now if she had done so.
It was time for her to speed up her plans to protect her human family. In uncertain times, it was best to stay ten steps ahead of everyone.
"Has anything irregular happened in my absence?" she asked Lanta.
Lanta twisted her lips for a bit as she thought about all the happenings on the Sun star, the regular and irregular among the humans and supernatural.
"Some migration, more than a few demons have opted to leave because of the influx of stronger creatures. Life angels have increased in number which has scared the demons.
Strong soul eaters have gone deeper into hiding as well because a few natural born reapers have been walking around, grabbing them up like birds scooping fish from the sea.
I successfully put a stop to minister Godiver’s plans of growing his own food." She looked at Scarlet with a bit of wariness. "I had to use a fire to do it. I know you don’t like it but.....
Scarlet raised her hand. "It’s okay, as long as long as nobody died."
"A lot of ancient sites have been dug up thanks to the life angels and their fights with demons. There have been more than a few earthquakes thanks to it. The historians and educators are excited...." Lanta laughed dryly. "Clueless humans."
They celebrated without knowing that if things exceeded in the smallest way during those fights, it would not be ancient discoveries being made but sinking of parts of the world which would lead to their death.
Scarlet listened to Lanta for another hour as she droned on and on about irrelevant and simple things, including information about her siblings. Finally, Lanta exhausted all that she could of and they remained silent for a while.
Eventually, one of them had to talk and it was Lanta.
"Sister-in-law, do you have a plan for the family and yourself? Facing off against a deity is no walk in the park. I have been in the underworld far longer than you and here is what I know. You cannot trust them no matter what they say. You have to be the one to do all it takes to safeguard yourself. They value the children but it doesn’t mean they value you the same. As long as the children are out of your womb then you will not be as important as you are right now.
The gods are good when they want to be but they are also selfish when they need to be. They will not side with you for free, they will have expectations in return.
Some will want you to owe them favors and you know that favors in our world are dangerous. Maybe it will be better if you don’t take part in this war at all. Just run and hide somewhere far, have the children and raise them in seclusion."
Scarlet scoffed. Was there anywhere she could hide where the deities would not find her? Even when Apheitos was hiding her they were tracking them. And for how long would she have to hide? It was not a viable solution.
"I am not going to run and hide like a rat in the sewer." she responded.
She had not gone through all this training for nothing. And, she had another backer, someone strong that had sent Apheitos to protect her. She had a feeling that it was this goddess that had given her the green flame.
"But wars between the gods are dangerous." Lanta told her. Her voice held a lot of desperation.
Lanta wondered if they were having two separate conversations here. Did Scarlet not hear her when she explained to her that without the children in her womb then she was a liability, not an asset.
Scarlet, with a smirk of confidence on her face said, "The gods can have their war, I have no interest in it."
The gods were always looking for simple reasons to fight. Her situation right now was just another excuse to flex their muscle. Lanta and Carnelia had said it themselves, immortality created boredom and boredom lead to fights. They were probably enjoying what was to come because no matter what happened, they couldn’t die.
They could fight for ten million years and destroy the entire universe but they would remain intact. And someday, they would end their war, sit down and recreate the universe. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
For that single reason, Scarlet had no interest in their war, only a desire to protect her babies.
"My only fight will be with whoever tries to lay a hand on my children." Anybody that came close enough would be burned without a warning, deity or not.
