Chapter 679: Gods visiting babies.

Apheitos entered the house with the light provided by the bright moon of the underworld streaming in through the door behind him. His arms were folded behind him when he approached Scarlet and the children, dimming his aura and making himself as non threatening as he could.

He stopped by the babies that were sleeping first, and looked down at them. Then, from one to the next, he touched their foreheads and whispered something. He finally came to the two that were breastfeeding and did the same thing.

When he was finished, he sat down in the chair opposite hers and pulled the life pods his way so that he could continue gazing upon the babies.

With most of the other deities, she would have been uneasy but with Apheitos, she felt completely safe. That’s why she didn’t flinch in anyway when he poked the cheeks of her oldest daughter.

"She will be a great craftsman this one, a woman that will make history."

Of course she would, he had blessed her.

"I am conflicted when it comes to the blessing of you deities. I cannot get away with lying to Justin anymore because the god of deceit blessed him with the ability to discern truth from lies. I am convinced that he did it deliberately to make my life harder." Scarlet told him.

Apheitos didn’t look at Scarlet and all of his attention was focused on the babies. But he was still listening to her talking.

"Isn’t that a good thing though? If he can discern lies then he will never be lied to. It can be a gift in it’s own way."

She thought about the few times Justin had caught her in a lie and she shook her head.

"Yeah, no. Raising children requires the parent to tell the occasional lie here and there. I have sadly lost that advantage with my son. I am worried though about what he will experience as he grows older. Knowing that your loved ones are lying to you about important things especially can be painful."

"Mmmm." Apheitos mumbled. He looked up and smiled at her, in his eyes was a doting gleam. "You were awesome out there, when you were fighting. Frankly, I was anticipating a greater fight. I can’t help but wonder what would happened if Tridon did not suddenly declare the war over. You would have decimated everything."

"Thank you sensei, I did learn from the best after all." She put the two babies down and picked up the last two for feeding.

As she settled down, a thought that caused her to purse her lips crossed her mind and she pulled her gaze to Apheitos.

"When you said that the flame would consume me back when you were training me, did you know about the Kopuko business?"

He nodded. "It’s a yes and no. I knew that you were changing, evolving but I didn’t exactly know into what. What I did know was the information I had been given by her and it was that you either consumed the flame or the flame consumed you. You will have to keep using the flame regularly in order to retain control over it. The reason why Kopuko’s are rare is because the power they hold is often greater than they can handle and in the end, they erase themselves."

He saw the horrified look on her face and smiled. "Don’t worry, you will learn. There is an old kopuko that lives in the far land of Gregory. Later, when you are prepared for another long journey, I will take you to meet her. She will train you in the ways of the flame and teach you balance."

Yes please, she almost screamed. The way he was talking about the Kopuko business was scary and downright frightening.

"Thank you master Apheitos."

The doors opened and in walked two more deities, Lythia and Carnelia that was trailing behind slowly.

"I hope that we are interfering, we came to see how you are doing." Lythia said.

Agitated suddenly, she roughly pulled Carnelia from out behind her. "Put on your big girl pants."

"Is she that scared of me?" Scarlet asked her.

"You killed a deity." Carnelia accused her, in a high pitched voice.

Nothing could convince Carnelia that Scarlet was not the most scary thing in this room right now.

Her reaction amused Scarlet and she wondered what Carnelia would do if she released her flames suddenly. She would probably teleport out immediately. ƒreewebɳovel.com

"I killed the deity that tried to take my child. If you want to take my child as well then we will have a problem, other than that, I am the same old Scarlet you have come to know and love."

Apheitos had heard about the unfortunate fate of the old goddess of fate. Every deity, in fact had heard about it. Word had spread to every realm within a minute of it happening.

"So, is it over?" Scarlet asked them. "Will the god of life back off now?"

Instead of an answer to her question, she received a question of her own from Lythia.

"May I carry one of them?"

She nodded and Lythia carried the baby that was nearest to her who happened to be the eldest.

"Oh, so adorable and tiny." she gushed rather quickly. "Why did you dress them in green? Wouldn’t they look cuter in white?"

"No white, life angels dress up in white." Carnelia objected rather loudly.

Her voice woke up one of the children, the smallest who cried weakly and Scarlet hurried to reach for her. Carnelia beat her to it and she carried the little one carefully.

She too, was gushing like Carnelia as she soothed the baby that settled down quickly. "Ooh, she is much better to carry than a hound pup. This is so great, I hope you have a few more every other year."

Scarlet frowned and then laughed. Five babies every other year sounded like a lot of work. When would she get time to rest if she was reproducing like a bunny?

"Forget it, maybe every after ten years." she answered. "But back to my question, is it over or do I have kill more deities before I can be safe again?"

Lythia looked at her and said, "Give us a few more days to sort it out. The old gods have sent down a message that there should be no war. All of you reapers, life angels and other creatures are not involved anymore.

The rest will be sorted just between us gods. Meanwhile, you should spend sometime here in the underworld with the babies. They should get used to the aura of this realm, especially our little half-half here. The more time she spends here, the better."

Scarlet scowled and said, "Half and half. You make my baby seem like something to eat."

Lythia "Well, she is adorable with her black and white hair. She looks like a guardian reaper already."

Carnelia’s head turned rather swiftly and she shouted in displeasure, "Oy, stop claiming her with your smooth tongue. You think I don’t know that the prophecy said she is the most powerful sister. She is the perfect fit for a warrior reaper."

The door opened and in walked wisdom, chaos, deceit and some more.

"Where are the most beautiful babies in all the realms?" Deceit asked.
