Chapter 62: Sharon’s Decisive Decision and Nathan’s Suspicions

"I’m sorry, Your Majesty. I cannot accept your offer."

Upon hearing this, Nathan’s expression immediately froze.

"What did you say? You refuse it?" His face darkened slowly. "Why reject it? Explain yourself."

The gentle aura he had initially exuded shifted, quickly turning into something oppressive, making the air around them tense.

Sharon felt the weight of his presence but gritted her teeth, trying to stay composed.

"I rejected it because I don’t want to take on responsibilities I’ve never had to bear before. It would be inconvenient and strip me of my freedom. I don’t want that," she said, speaking plainly.

She had to admit that there was a certain loneliness created by her father, the queen, the concubines, and her siblings. But at the same time, she relished the freedom she had, free from the palace’s strict rules, which she found suffocating.

She also understood that her father’s offer was driven solely by her magical attribute, not by any real affection for her.

A sense of disappointment and exhaustion washed over her.

She didn’t want to be deceived by those who only sought her power.

Now, in her eyes, there was only Aron. Everyone else was just passing through her life.

"You..." Nathan’s anger flared, and for a moment, he almost scolded his stubborn daughter, but he held back.

Sharon was no longer the innocent girl she had been just days ago.

Her calm, resolute, and indifferent demeanor made it clear she had completely changed.

Moreover, she had awakened the golden light attribute and officially become the personal student of Rudolf, one of the Sages of the Celestial Academy.

Nathan took a deep breath, trying to calm himself, and asked once more, "Are you sure you don’t want to accept? I can guarantee that the queen, the concubines, and your siblings will never bother you again."

"My decision is absolute, and they won’t be able to oppose it. Think it over."

With Sharon’s extraordinary talent, Nathan certainly didn’t want to lose her.

He needed to emotionally tie her to the Magic Kingdom of Valdom so that, when Sharon grew stronger, she would protect the kingdom.

But instead of being reassured by his guarantee, Sharon could only smile wryly.

If her father truly had absolute power, why had he allowed the queen, the concubines, and her siblings to oppress her in the past?

Had he done it out of hatred for her?

Or perhaps he simply didn’t care?

A flood of questions and doubts overwhelmed her, deepening her sense of disappointment in Nathan.

Shaking her head, she lowered her gaze slightly and responded, "Sorry, Your Majesty, I still can’t accept. I hope you understand."

Nathan fell silent, blue veins bulging on his forehead. After a moment, he let out a quiet sigh and pressed his fingers to his temples.

"Very well," he said, waving his hand dismissively. "You may go."

Sharon said nothing more. She bowed her head once again and turned to leave.

But just as she was about to close the door, Nathan lifted his head and looked at her.

"Wait a moment," he called, stopping Sharon in her tracks.

"What is it, Your Majesty? Do you have something else to say?" Sharon asked, her brow slightly furrowed.

She was eager to return to her room and resume her delayed lunch with Aron, which had been interrupted by her father’s summons.

Nathan bit his lower lip and asked, "If the kingdom were in danger in the future, would you help?"

Sharon was momentarily taken aback by the question. She hadn’t expected him to ask something like that.

After a brief silence, Sharon nodded slowly and answered, "Of course I would help. After all, I am the princess of the Magic Kingdom of Valdom."

Her words brought a small smile to Nathan’s lips.

"You may leave."

Sharon nodded once more and closed the door behind her.

Once she was out of sight, Nathan’s expression darkened.

He tapped his index finger lightly on the table and muttered to himself, "Who exactly has made Sharon like this? What caused such a drastic change in her overnight?"

Two days ago, Sharon hadn’t been like this. She had been an innocent, timid girl who never dared to defy his orders. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

Even when she was mistreated by those closest to her, she never fought back.

Yet, in just one night, everything had changed.

He had heard from his wife, Victoria, that Cassius and his fiancée, Celine, had broken off their relationship.

All of it was somehow connected to a stranger named Avaron, whose name Nathan didn’t recognize.

What was even more astonishing, however, wasn’t just Sharon’s presence at the party but the fact that she had arrived with Avaron.

According to Victoria, the two appeared to be very close, as if they shared a deep bond.

But based on his intelligence reports, Sharon had always stayed in her room, never once leaving the palace, let alone having contact with a stranger named Avaron.

The question now was, how were these two connected?

He had instructed his intelligence network to investigate the matter last night, but as of now, no report had come in.

This suggested that Avaron was an enigmatic figure, with a background likely very deep and hidden.

"And then there’s this servant, Aron, who’s always by Sharon’s side," Nathan muttered, his brow furrowing.

Their relationship seemed far too close for a master-servant dynamic.

"Could Sharon’s change be caused by him?" The thought crossed his mind, and his expression darkened.

Though it was only a suspicion, it was worth investigating. He distinctly remembered that Aron was somewhat suspicious.

While many servants had turned down the position of Sharon’s personal attendant, Aron had been the only one to accept.

Which meant Aron was now the target of his investigation.

With his next course of action decided, Nathan picked up a letter and began writing orders for his subordinates.

Arthur sat casually on the sofa, absorbed in his book.

Back when he lived in Japan, reading—both physical and digital books—had been his favorite pastime. It was this habit that had first drawn him to fantasy novels.

Just as he was deep into his reading, the sound of the doorknob turning broke his concentration, and the familiar, captivating figure of Sharon appeared.

Arthur turned his head, ready to greet her, but her expression immediately told him something was wrong.

He closed his book, stood up, and walked toward her.

"Did His Majesty hurt you, princess?" he asked with concern.

Sharon sighed softly and walked over to a dining chair, sitting down with a weary air.

"No, he didn’t," she replied in a downcast tone, then began to explain everything to Arthur.

After listening for a few minutes, Arthur finally understood the situation and couldn’t help but smile.

"Your decision was the right one, princess. You’re now Sage Rudolf’s personal student, with a very high status. You have every right to refuse, and His Majesty can’t force you," he said soothingly while he began preparing the food they had earlier put away.

Sharon felt a sense of relief wash over her at his words. A smile returned to her face as she picked up a piece of stir-fried meat and took a bite.

"Thank you, Aron..."
