Trapped in the Beastworld Breeder System (BL)-Chapter 69: The Field
The walls have ears was a correct notion when it came to the wolf palace, as the little rifts that happened around the dungeon were no longer news within the palace by the time the morning clocks rang.
Rumors spread wildly through the palace. They said the third prince and the second prince were fighting over the Nation’s property.
Such blasphemous words made the king’s face flare with anger. His hands rose and slammed hard against his chair as he read the court proceedings which he had been presented to the night before. Normally, he wouldn’t even have time to brother himself with checking it before the court began, but this time, he had just been angered too much that he checked them out to pass time.
And yet, in the Nation’s property quarters, the very subject of the rumors slept soundly on the bed, cradled in the soft arms of the second prince, just further confirming the rumors spread about. But, it wasn’t like Lucien cared much about any of it.
Aries rolled over on the bed, snuggling closer into the warm embrace he had found himself wrapped in through the night. Then his senses returned all at once, and he jumped straight off the bed.
That was a bad idea.
Pain shot up his ass immediately, and he crouched low, his face twisting as he grimaced in pain.
"Shit, shit, shit!" he mumbled as he remained crouched.
His eyes then snapped up to Lucien, who was still on the bed. Rising from his position, Aries walked toward him.
"Evil being. He caused this," he muttered with spite within in as he stared at Lucien peaceful sleeping face, which spoke bliss.
He turned to the drawer in the room and rummaged through the consort’s belongings, the ones she had refused to take with her. When he returned, an eyeliner was in his hand.
Aries walked back to Lucien with a visible grin and got to work. When he was done, he rose from his knees and smirked mischievously.
"Now, I feel better this way."
It then dawned on him that time was far spent. Quickly, he used a simple water spell to wash his body, dressed up, and rushed out of the quarters to head to the field.
As soon as Aries left the area, he was met by Rogers, who stood waiting in front of the prince’s quarters.
Aries stopped short, surprised, and stared at him, waiting for him to speak—perhaps that would explain why he was there.
But they both just stared at each other, now speaking until Roger finally did.
"The prince asked me to escort you to the field," he said.
"Oh..." Aries muttered. "Do you mean to say he’s awake? Or when did he give you these instructions?"
"My lord," Rogers started, "That isn’t really important now, but if you must know, my Lord cares about you so much and he has discussed this with me yesterday. So, are you ready to head to the field or not?"
"Hmmm..." Aries sighed. Then he said, "Well, I do not know it, and I’d appreciate it if you could escort me there."
Rogers smiled at his words. "Follow me, then."
Aries was led to the stables in the quarters, where a horse and carriage were prepared. Rogers fastened the horse to the carriage, and Aries was made to sit inside.
He didn’t think much of it at the moment and simply did as he was told—becoming, quite literally, a passenger princess. He sat comfortably in the carriage while Rogers rode ahead. Had he known the stress this would cause him at the field, he would have protested.
For the first time since arriving, Aries truly saw the streets and city of the wolf kingdom. It bustled with life—people moving about, stalls lining the streets, halls rising around them. It was lively, and he saw faces different from the royal family he had grown accustomed to.
Even the way they dressed left him in awe.
He had thought it was only the royal family or the palace that dressed that way, but seeing the city made him realize that the wolves were truly humanlike in nature. They covered almost their entire bodies, unlike the tiger males, who only wrapped cloth around that barely covered their private parts.
The carriage soon moved away from the city, and before long, they reached the field. It came to a halt, and Aries sighed heavily inside before stepping down.
Confusion washed over him the moment he landed, but Rogers offered no explanation. Instead, he rode off immediately.
"I’ll come get you later, or the prince will," were the last words Aries heard before he disappeared.
Aries looked around where he had been dropped. Before him lay light bushes, and when he pushed past them, he saw two people dressed in armor, holding spears, standing before a massive gate.
"Perhaps... could this be the field?" Aries muttered as he studied the guards.
Calming himself, he breathed in and out slowly and moved closer. Instantly, they went on alert, raising their spears to block the gate.
"Who are you?" they demanded, their eyes staring him down.
Aries was startled by the sudden interrogation, but he quickly steadied himself.
"Thales told me to come to the field, and that’s why I’m here."
Those were the words Aries had spoken, and they didn’t help him at all. Instead, they made matters worse, as the guards gave him the harshest stare-down he had ever experienced in his life. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
Seeing how ridiculously he was being looked at, Aries coughed lightly. ’Did I do anything wrong?’ he pondered inwardly. He was honestly confused, but that pondering solved nothing, as the guards remained exactly where they were.
"But..." he started, then stopped again as he caught sight of their faces and suddenly remembered something.
When Aries had been in the tiger kingdom and the maids had led him through a room, the way he had been introduced had accorded him so much respect that the maids themselves had been pleased.
’So perhaps I need to use that regality. And also, I have a title. I’ll use that seamlessly,’ Aries reasoned, smiling to himself.
Thus, with his shoulders squared and a smile plastered on his face, he said, "You should let me in. I’m the newly appointed Second in Command."
"Hmmm." Both guards glanced at each other upon hearing his words, then shook their heads.
One of them then called out, "Cedric!"
Aries felt a flicker of relief, thinking they had finally summoned someone to lead him to Thales. But when Cedric arrived, that hope was crushed.
The guard who had called him ordered, "Take this boy and throw him in the dungeon. He needs to be dealt with."
"What?!" Aries shouted. "What are you saying?!"
The guards didn’t listen to him. Cedric was already approaching, and Aries couldn’t stand it any longer.
As Cedric moved closer, Aries spotted the open space between the two guards, and his legs acted before his mind could catch up.
He sprinted through and didn’t stop until he collided with a hard surface, landing bum-first on the ground.
Aries lifted his head to see who he had run into, but he barely got the chance before Cedric caught up and yanked him up by the waist of his shorts.
"What gave you the effrontery to run like that?" Cedric barked as he berated Aries.
But Aries wasn’t listening anymore. His attention was now fixed on the wolfman standing before him.
This wolfman was breathtaking, and Aries could feel the air leave his lungs. If Lucien was handsome enough to make his body react in ways he didn’t understand, and his brother was stoic and cunning-looking, and the war lord dangerously imposing, then this man was the perfect combination of them all—and somehow, that called to him.
The look of defiance, danger, cunning, and raw handsomeness, the aura of someone who had everything and absolutely everyone under his control, and the strange feeling that he wanted to be controlled by that very hand flooded Aries as he stared at him.
The man stared back, giving him the same scrutinizing gaze.
However, he broke eye contact first, turning to Cedric.
"What is happening? Give me a report!" he commanded, his voice harsh and firm, snapping Aries back to his senses.
Yes, he was truly dangerous.
Cedric straightened. "False identity, Second."
"This one claims to be the second in command."
At those words, the man’s head snapped toward Aries immediately. To Aries, it felt as though this man was more perceptive than Cedric. He didn’t look at him with disgust, like one would a liar or a thief.
Instead, there was a smirk—one filled with mockery.
"Leave him," he ordered.
Cedric obeyed at once.
The man then began walking around Aries, while Aries stood still beneath his scrutinizing gaze, unable to move as those eyes seemed to strip him bare.
After a moment, the man spoke.
"So, you’re the one meant to overthrow me?"
"You... this small one?"
