True Alpha's Chosen Mate-Chapter 264: Rest in peace
In the west wing of the imperial palace...
CLASH!
Cedrick rolled to the ground but stopped with his one knee and palm on it. His eyes glinted at the beast in a half-human and half-wolf form. Unlike the male wolves who reached this stage, this wolf had longer furs. She was even faster than anyone he had encountered and just as strong as the male alphas.
"Tomas... you’re such a disappointment," Elizabeth laughed without averting her eyes from Cedrick, her prey. "You got killed by this weakling?"
"Hah... I don’t appreciate the insult, but it’s not his highness’s fault. You’re just strong."
"Quite generous with words to your enemy, I see."
"I simply knew how to respect my enemy’s strength," Cedrick smirked, fluttering his gigantic wings that were akin to bat wings. He stretched each of his fingers, producing a cracking sound. "As a token of respect, I shall fight you without holding back at well."
"That’s what I am talking about," Elizabeth observed the red mist surrounding Cedrick and smirked. Surely, it wasn’t a bluff when he said he wouldn’t hold back. His aura felt different, more sinister and alarming than ever. Well, he wouldn’t win against her if he didn’t exert this much effort.
’I need to take him down,’ came to her mind as she drew a deep breath, eyes glinting menacingly. ’I need to take him down before I lose control of myself.’
And in a blink of an eye, another explosive clash caused a powerful gust of wind.
There was one reason Elizabeth rarely shift in her wolf form. That she, instead of fighting in this form, would rather fight with a sword in her hand.
Her primal instinct and energy were too powerful even she couldn’t handle it. She could barely use this form for several minutes. More than the time limit, she would enter a feral state, which could endanger not just her life but every living being around her.
"How long?" Cedrick inquired, as her claws clashed against his spear. Using her other hand, she tried to claw, only for her sharp tips to meet the back of his wings.
"None of your damn business!" she answered through her gritted teeth, hopping back, only to speed forth once again.
CLASH!
"If you think stalling time will help you, it won’t!" bellowed Elizabeth as she managed to nip a part of his wings. His wings were thick and hard, almost like a hardened scale was covering it. But when she clawed it after multiple tries and his blood wafted in her nostrils, her eyes lit up.
For the first time since their fierce duel, Cedrick never once winced in pain. Even when she stabbed him and broke a few of his ribs. But it seemed he felt pain now. Elizabeth was a thorough person, so she had to make sure if it was a bluff.
Their clash went on and on without taking a break to breathe. They would constantly exchange words of ridicule from time to time, but it wouldn’t stop them from exchanging blows.
After what seemed to be forever, Elizabeth yelled at the top of her lungs, hands interlaced, pounding the bottom of it against Cedrick’s back. Caught by surprise, Cedrick winced as his wing broke mildly from his back. But before he could even feel the pain completely, Elizabeth appeared in front of him and flung her arms, fist hitting his face, causing him to fly in a different direction.
Despite breaking her wrist in the process, Elizabeth didn’t stop from assaulting him from a different direction like a ball. Each passing minute, her speed increased and her attacks grew stronger. Still, Cedrick, although unable to catch up to her beating, could feel the urgency in every attack.
He ground his teeth, attempting to gain control after inflicting another blow, and was now flying in a direction. But just when control was within his reach, as he slowed down his speed, Elizabeth appeared in front of him.
"Goodbye!" came out a stern voice, making his eyes dilate.
All he saw next was Elizabeth’s paws aiming at this chest. He would die, for sure, was what came into his head. He wasn’t able to gain control, and she figured out his weakness, using it to her advantage. Like everyone who came face to face with death, Cedrick felt like time slowed down just for him to have time to watch his life flash before his eyes.
His life... his life... was nothing. It was all about Azazel and serving the man from the beginning to the end.
Did he regret it? He didn’t feel hateful towards Azazel.
Did he think he could’ve done things better? Or did he feel a little bit of remorse?
The answer was a simple no.
Whatever Azazel says must happen. If he said someone needed to die, they must die, and they all deserved that. It only showed that Cedrick... never had free will. Or rather, that was his only purpose.
Even in the face of death, he didn’t know what to feel. Therefore, he simply chose the closest tangible feeling, and that was he was honored to serve Azazel.
"Rest in..." Just as Cedrick accepted his honorable death, the pain and darkness he expected didn’t come. He gazed at Elizabeth, who suddenly stopped, the tip of her sharp claws just skin deep in his chest.
Taking this opportunity, Cedrick hopped back, digging his fingers into the ground to stop himself from flying away. He set his shaking eyes on Elizabeth, who was frozen in place like a statue. Still, even though she seemed zoning out, he didn’t carelessly try to attack her.
Her aura was increasing and her body heat was akin to the surface of a boiling pot. She didn’t make it.
"Hah..." Cedrick laughed, watching her eyes get clouded by a fog of red.
*HOWL*
She let out a loud and intimidating growl, looking up with her hands on either side of her. Unlike her clean howl previously, this time, it was more like the sound of a mindless beast.
"How lucky!" he snickered, laughing while hunching in. When he recovered, he raised his sharp gaze and grinned evilly.
"Poor her. She self-destructed."
As soon as those words slipped past Cedrick’s lips, he bent his knees and bolted in her direction.
