True Immortal Heart-Chapter 29: A Bad Premonition
"My daughter is absolutely right. Who do you street rats think you are, barging in here and acting like you have any right to speak? Trespassing is illegal—you want to end up in jail?" Seraphine’s mother snapped, her voice sharp and imperious.
As a wealthy socialite perched at the very top of society, she was clearly furious that a group of what she deemed uncultured lowlifes dared disturb her peace.
She labeled them "uncultured" because, in her eyes, she was well-acquainted with nearly every notable figure in Blackreach’s upper class.
Viper technically belonged to that same elite circle, but she much preferred the underworld. Mafia life suited her better. Lavish parties and extravagant banquets? Too boring. Too fake.
For her, beating people up, loan-sharking, drug trafficking, and organ smuggling were far more thrilling.
Her subordinates weren’t exactly scholars, true—but they weren’t idiots either. Most of them had at least some form of education.
Being called uneducated pissed them off. In response, they began cursing out Seraphine’s entire family. Chaos erupted at the scene, devolving into a full-blown shouting match.
Dusk’s lips twitched in annoyance. He hadn’t expected this place to turn into a damn marketplace. The noise was deafening, everyone yelling over each other—he couldn’t make out a single coherent word.
He walked up to Viper, patted her shoulder, and muttered under his breath.
"Hey, what exactly was our purpose in coming here again?"
Her eyes narrowed. Now that he mentioned it, things really had gone off the rails. Not only were her own people shouting, but Seraphine’s parents, relatives, and even the household staff had joined the fray.
This was definitely not the plan.
She had come to demand justice for Aldric, to make Seraphine regret ever laying a hand on someone under her protection—not to get dragged into a shouting contest.
Worse yet, she’d been insulted out of nowhere. There was no way she’d let that slide.
Seraphine needed to be taught a painful, unforgettable lesson.
"Enough! Everyone, stop!" she shouted.
The room fell silent in an instant. Her voice cut through the chaos like a blade. Whether they were her own men or complete strangers, no one dared ignore that command.
Seraphine’s father, a seasoned businessman with years of experience, felt something... unusual when Viper shouted.
’Could it be that I’ve overlooked someone important?’ he wondered.
’There are indeed a few individuals in Blackreach with more power than I have—but they tend to keep a low profile...’
That thought made him more cautious as he faced her. His mind was racing, trying to figure out exactly who she was.
"What exactly did you people come here for?" he asked.
After all, things had spiraled into chaos so quickly that he hadn’t been able to catch their actual reason for showing up.
At first, confident in his own authority, he had dismissed them as nothing more than a bunch of uncultured lunatics throwing a tantrum.
But now, having calmed down a bit, he realized these people weren’t so simple. His tone became noticeably more cautious.
"It’s simple. We’re here because of Aldric," Viper said. "Aldric, tell me what you want."
He was more than happy to comply. Having someone powerful back him up felt... good. Really good.
"I want the engagement to continue," he said coldly. "Even though I don’t love you one bit, I’ll do everything you hate just to spite you. Oh, and I’ll start bringing other women home just for fun—just to piss you off. Feel free to do the same, you whore."
A cruel smile spread across his face.
He wasn’t exactly a saint himself. Healing mafia wounds wasn’t the only thing he did.
He played a part in the organization’s more sinister dealings—organ trafficking, black-market sales... his hands were far from clean.
His only real weakness? He wasn’t much of a fighter. Without backup, he often felt insecure.
Aldric’s words were like a slap in the face, igniting the fury of Seraphine and her entire family.
Who did he think she was?
She was the darling of the family. A noble heiress. And yet, this third-rate doctor—just because he had a few thugs behind him—dared to call her a cheap whore?
She was livid. If he could call for backup, why couldn’t she?
With rage boiling in her veins, she pulled out her phone and made a call immediately.
Dusk, who had been enjoying the drama from the sidelines, suddenly felt a chill crawl down his spine.
’Wait... is she really calling the protagonist right now? No way... right?’
That dangerous thought flashed through his mind. Only the heavens knew what kind of chaos a true protagonist could unleash.
"Elias, someone bullied me... They barged into my house and started cursing at me. You have to stand up for me!" She whimpered, her voice trembling like she was on the verge of tears.
The group standing behind Viper stared in disbelief. Just moments ago, Seraphine had been a ferocious lioness, hurling insults with overwhelming confidence—and now, she was acting like some pitiful, wronged damsel.
Unbelievable... shameless!
Everyone in Viper’s group cursed silently in their hearts.
Upon hearing that name, both Dusk and Viper felt that things were going in a bad direction.
Dusk leaned in and whispered to her, "Hey... she doesn’t mean that, Elias, right?"
"I don’t know," Viper replied, uneasy. "But I have a bad feeling."
"Do you think my disguise will hold up if it really is him?"
"It should," she said. "Even if you get recognized, just deny everything. I’ll back you up. But seriously, you should blend into the crowd. Don’t stand next to me."
Dusk nodded. The last thing he wanted was a face-off with the cops. If he had already reached Rank 1, this wouldn’t be such a headache.
Sure, Rank 1 Heart Masters couldn’t just tank bullets like superhumans, but unless someone caught them off guard, dodging bullets wasn’t impossible.
Of course, if someone started spraying automatic fire, dodging would be out of the question. Even a Rank 1 had limits.
’I need to reach Rank 1 and get a relic, fast. Only then will life get a little easier,’ he thought, heart pounding.
Just two more kills. That’s all he needed.
Meanwhile, on the other end of the line, Elias—having just received the tearful call from his girlfriend—was utterly furious.
"Don’t worry. I’m coming right now!" He snapped.
Without hesitation, he jumped into a police car and sped straight toward her house.
Inside the mansion, a temporary silence fell over the place as everyone unconsciously waited for Seraphine’s "reinforcements" to arrive.
And then—it came.
The shrill wail of a police siren echoed in the distance.
Dusk instantly went on high alert. His survival instincts—honed over days of hiding like a rat in the sewers—triggered the moment he heard that sound.
