Chapter 30: Elias Arrives

The shrill sound of a police siren came to an abrupt stop. From the vehicle, a young and strikingly handsome officer stepped out.

That figure—so familiar. It was him—Elias.

He had already been in a foul mood after watching a criminal escape right under his nose. Now, seeing his lover being bullied only fueled his fury.

Spotting the security guard peeking out from behind a corner, Elias frowned.

"Hey! What kind of guard are you supposed to be? How could you just let a stranger barge into the house of the person who hired you?"

"I sincerely apologize," the guard said, bowing his head.

’Damn it. Easy for you to talk about principles. You have no idea how dangerous it was just now. More than twenty lunatics were ready to pounce on me at any moment. I’m not dumb enough to stand in their way!’

Though he looked obedient on the outside, the guard cursed nonstop in his heart. He truly felt miserable.

Elias had no intention of wasting another second. Without hesitation, he rushed straight into Seraphine’s villa.

The door was wide open, and inside the grand hall, two groups of people stood facing each other, tension thick in the air. Elias felt, for a brief moment, that one man alone might not be enough.

’Shit. Why are there so many people? I thought it’d be just a few.’

He was shocked—but for the sake of his lover, even if there were two hundred people instead of twenty, he’d still charge ahead. Love gave him the strength to defy any odds.

"Everyone, stop right now! Whatever this is, sort it out with some damn civility!"

His voice echoed through the villa like a thunderclap. Dusk, on the other hand, felt an ominous chill.

’Damn it, of course it’s him. I just ran for a few minutes and already bumped into him. Wait... he came alone?’

Despite his discomfort, Dusk kept his eyes on Elias’s every move. If he’d come here alone, that probably meant he’d rushed over in a fit of urgency.

’If things truly are as I suspect... then this is perfect. If I can fully exploit that weakness, it’ll be incredibly useful.’

Dusk narrowed his eyes, staring at Elias like a venomous serpent eyeing its prey.

A sudden shiver ran down Elias’s spine. It felt as if something deeply unpleasant had just locked its gaze onto him. Still, he brushed it off—he was standing in the way of a large crowd, so a little paranoia wasn’t that strange.

He moved toward Seraphine and saw her crying pitifully, her eyes brimming with sorrow. Rage flared up in his chest.

She was his love, his hope, his radiant moonlight. He would never allow anyone to hurt her.

"Don’t worry—I’m here now. As long as I’m by your side, no one will dare lay a finger on you," Elias said, his voice overflowing with tenderness.

Gone was the ferocious, street-thug demeanor Seraphine had shown earlier. Now, she looked every bit the demure lady of high society—shy, gentle, noble.

"I... I’m so grateful," she whispered, tears streaming down her face as if to silently say, Without you, I’ve endured so much suffering.

Elias’s heart melted on the spot. At this moment, all he wanted was to drag every one of those wicked people to prison.

Viper’s group—including Aldric and Dusk—was utterly dumbfounded. For a split second, they genuinely wondered if their eyes were playing tricks on them.

’What the hell is this? Are we sure we’re not mistaken? Is this really the same woman who’s been shouting at us like a gangster this whole time? Doesn’t look like her at all!’

’Damn... So the protagonist isn’t just lucky after all. Having a two-faced girlfriend like that—he must’ve accumulated divine karma over eighteen lifetimes. Still, for him, she’s a huge weakness. But I can’t jump to conclusions yet. I need to see just how deep his feelings run.’

Dusk silently analyzed their relationship. If Elias truly was a blind fool in love, then things couldn’t be better.

Meanwhile, Aldric was having a hard time swallowing what he was seeing. After all, Seraphine was engaged to him—yet here she was, openly fawning over her boyfriend.

Did that not mean she never respected him in the first place?

"Seraphine! You’re engaged to me—so why do you have a boyfriend? Are you disrespecting me, or are you just disrespecting him?" Aldric shouted.

Elias froze. He had never heard Seraphine mention anything about an engagement before.

His eyes, filled with confusion, locked onto hers, silently demanding an explanation.

Seraphine immediately threw herself into his arms, tears streaming down her cheeks.

"Do you... do you not trust me? I never told you because I never believed it was real. My grandfather passed away a long time ago, and then suddenly some stranger shows up claiming to be my fiancé. How was I supposed to take that seriously? And even if the engagement is real—so what? Love isn’t something decided by a piece of paper. I believe in my heart. I believe in the love I have for you."

Elias felt as if her words had given him a power-up. His gaze turned sharp with disdain as he looked at Aldric—if what she said was true, this guy was probably just a fraud.

"She’s right. Love comes from the heart. No one can stop us from being together. You there—do you have anything to say for yourself? If you’re breaking the law, don’t blame me for throwing you in jail," Elias said loudly and righteously, as if absolutely certain Aldric was in the wrong.

’What the hell?! They’re the ones who came looking for trouble, and now I’m the bad guy?!’

Aldric cursed inwardly. He was about to explode. How had this ridiculous situation turned into his fault? It made no damn sense.

He turned to look at Viper—after all, from the moment she appeared, the right to speak had clearly shifted to her, not him.

"How do you know he’s lying?" Viper asked calmly. "Aldric, do you have proof of the engagement?"

"I do," Aldric replied, pulling out an old, worn document signed by both families long ago.

Elias blinked—not because of the document, but because of Viper herself. Just earlier, she’d been the one under threat right in front of him.

"Are you... Are you alright?" he asked, concern coloring his voice.

As someone who stood for justice, Elias had a habit of putting aside all other matters the moment a crime was involved.

But Seraphine’s heart skipped a beat at his words. If he and Viper turned out to have a close relationship, then everything she’d done might soon come to light.
