Chapter 106: Fear for your life

"Sir, we are only taking him in for some interrogation. This is not an arrest, and thus he needs to visit the precinct," one of the policemen said.

"I don’t accept. What is your name? Where is the warrant? Until you show me one, our grandson isn’t going anywhere." Aric’s grandfather wasn’t ready to hear anything as he took out the mobile phone and dialed a number.

"Sir, I am saying it again, politely this time. Your grandson isn’t charged with anything, and he is just the one accused. Since it is a minor case, we can’t hold him in jail. Your grandson will be returned to you soon. Please don’t make this tough for us, or we will be forced to take action."

"How dare you talk to me like this? I used to work for CID, and people like you used to be under my foot. Leave my grandson alone." Aric’s grandfather was getting agitated as seconds were passing by, and before Aric could assure his grandpa, his grandma showed up with a look of horror on her face, her eyes showing signs of swelling with tears.

"What... What is going on?" his grandmother asked.

"Grandma, don’t worry. I will be back soon." Aric could see that both of his grandparents were losing their minds, and Grandpa had already started talking over the phone with someone in order to understand what was going on. "Officer, we can go."

"No. You will not leave like this. I will go with you." Grandfather, who was busy on the call, hung up and said as he could tell that his connections weren’t high enough to get an instant response.

"Grandpa. It’s okay... It’s alright... I will be fine. I will be back soon. Nothing will happen to me. Didn’t he say that it’s just an interrogation? I am not in jail or anything," Aric said with calmness in his voice.

"I will call your parents," Grandmother said, her voice quivering. She didn’t understand what her grandson had done to be dragged away like this, but she was trying to stand strong.

"No need. I will be back in a jiffy," Aric replied, and by this time, one of the police officers was already holding him by his arm and dragging Aric away, not bothering to speak any more useless words.

Within a minute, he was pushed into the back seat of the old-style police jeep. These vehicles weren’t known for comfort, and the design was from the World War II era. After sitting on the back seat and experiencing the bad cushion, the jeep sped off. He could see from the back of the jeep his grandparents on the verge of breakdown. He could feel his anger slowly rising, but the angrier he was, the calmer he appeared on the outside.

A chilling calm, to be exact.

"Can I know who has filed an FIR against me?" Aric couldn’t help but ask as the jeep sped through the dusty road.

"You have quite the courage to speak to someone elder to you in that tone. Haven’t your parents taught you proper manners on how to talk? Maybe it was your parents’ fault that now you are having to go to the police station," the police officer who sat opposite him in the back said in a very stern and rude tone.

If the jeep wasn’t making so much noise, one could hear the knuckles of Aric cracking. He was very close to flipping out and thrashing these people badly. He was already on his communicator, trying to find out what was going on, and the first thing that came to his attention was that these two police officers didn’t come from the local police station but rather from a police station that was at least 90 km away.

He could already smell that something was wrong.

The jeep soon took a lonely road that led to the other police station. As the jeep sped through the pothole-filled road, out of nowhere, the mobile of the driving police officer rang.

The man pumped the brakes fast and took the jeep to the side of the road. He picked up the call as fast as possible. It was as if his life depended on it.

"Hello, Sir..."

"..."

"Yes, Sir, we got him, Sir. Do you want us to teach him a lesson?"

"..."

"Okay, Sir... Sorry, Sir."

"..."

"Okay, Sir."

The police officer placed the mobile on Aric’s ear. He could guess who the call was coming from as he had already hacked into the mobile phones of these two men through his communicator. Since the moment he had received knowledge about ethical hacking from the interstellar civilization, he had put certain measures around him, allowing him to access any bank account, mobile phone, or computer. It was all connected to his communicator, and he could access them.

Mira wouldn’t do these kinds of things because it was illegal, and thus the hacking part always fell on the shoulders of Aric.

"Hello... Who is this?" Aric spoke over the phone. He already knew the answer but wanted to hear it.

"Who I am doesn’t matter. What matters is you have been quite the fox of the year, hiding from the eyes of the public but also sitting on such massive wealth that would put some of the wealthiest people of this shit country to shame," the other voice spoke. He spoke in an accent that was quite foreign to the ears of Aric, but he understood his words clearly.

"Does my wealth irk you so much?" Aric asked.

"Hahaha... Why would I be jealous of your wealth? Your wealth means my pockets will be filled. Don’t you think so?" the man said.

"Why will I help you fill your pockets?" Aric asked.

"Because a person like you, who has done everything to keep his wealth under wraps, wouldn’t want any kind of harassment or false cases being lodged against him, or better, be killed by the hands of some goons, right?" the man asked.
