Chapter 47: Hatred and Darkness

[Fourth Skill- Shadow Binding]

As he spoke, the shadow underneath him moved towards the target like a snake. It started merging with the shadow of the prisoner.

Because the prisoner wasn’t dead, he could feel something controlling his body.

As the shadow slowly climbed around his body like a tentacle, it started moving his arm and head.

"Hmm! Not a minute control as I expected, but it’s good enough."

He muttered as he slightly moved his finger, and the shadow around the neck suddenly twisted the head of the prisoner.

Crack! Thud!

The prisoner fell on the ground.

"That’s it?" Misaka felt a bit confused. She had kept this prisoner alive so that her Lord, but Tyler only tested his new skill on him.

Tyler raised his eyebrows at her and asked.

"Didn’t you extract all the information you could?"

Misaka nodded her head.

"Then, why keep him alive? It is better to just kill him so that he can turn into a spirit."

While humans also had souls, ordinary human souls couldn’t be captured. Their souls turn into tiny particles that fly away.

These particles would then gather at an extremely negative energy-filled area where they would merge with Natural Energy and transform into a spirit.

But that would generally take the soul particles of nearly ten ordinary humans.

On the other hand, even a single hunter could produce a spirit after their death.

After killing him, Tyler released a red flame from his palm and burned the corpse to ashes before walking out of the prison.

"Sir, have you already started creating skills for the Fifth Rank?" Misaka asked.

Tyler nodded his head.

"After all, I don’t lack imagination or resources."

Misaka smiled.

Although she was created like a robot, she had been given a proper past and human emotions.

She knew just how hard imagination was. Creating something out of nothing wasn’t easy.

Of course, she didn’t know Tyler was just cheating directly.

"Sir, how long will it take you to reach Fifth Rank?" Misaka asked.

Tyler looked at her with surprise and asked.

"Do you need me to speed up my progress?"

"I want to start my advancement to the Seventh Rank. But it could take somewhere between a month to a year."

"So, I want to wait until you reach Fifth Rank before starting my advancement process."

Misaka replied.

Hearing that, Tyler couldn’t help but feel speechless.

"Couldn’t you have said this before? I just started my new ability."

Misaka blushed with embarrassment.

When Tyler talked about awakening his third ability, she tried to convince him to give up, showing him the problems he would face.

But if she had talked to him about her advancement, then he wouldn’t have tried awakening the third ability before reaching Fifth Rank.

Seeing her embarrassed look, Tyler sighed.

"Don’t worry, I have plenty of ideas and Natural Fruits."

"I am just taking some rest between my advancements; otherwise, I can directly complete nine common skills."

Misaka’s eyes lit up as they closed the door of the prison and locked it.

"I can’t ask you and Rose to constantly check up on prisoners and provide them with food."

"Looks like I need to create a second entrance to the prison and hire some police to do this job."

Tyler muttered.

"Then, why didn’t you do it in the first place?" Misaka asked.

She couldn’t understand her Lord’s reason behind creating an underground prison connected to his mansion.

Tyler rubbed the back of his head with an embarrassed look and said.

"Actually, this isn’t a prison. I transformed it into a prison later. At first, it was a hiding place for me."

"Hiding place?"

Tyler nodded with a solemn expression.

"After the outbreak, I was afraid of ambushes and attacks. Especially since I started showing off my wealth, I became even more scared."

"So, I asked the villagers to build the underground bunker. Then, I asked John to connect that bunker with my mansion."

"This is why I didn’t want John to leave the city and why I didn’t reject Alena for so long."

Hearing his explanation, Misaka showed pity in her eyes. She held his hand and said.

"Lord, I’m here. From now on, I will always protect you."

Tyler was amused and happy at her response. He tightly held her hand and said.

"I was insecure, Misaka. But it was mostly due to losing my family. Now, I have a new family, new friends, and a new responsibility."

"It’s time to leave behind my past and move forward."

Misaka nodded but also let go of his hand as they walked out of the mansion.

Tyler went to find Khalim’s family.

He had a wife, an eight-year-old daughter, and a mother. He lost his father during the previous Outbreak.

Because of his job, Khalim had managed to pay the mortgage and save a lot of money for his family.

They were thriving, but they didn’t know most of that money came from selling their own neighbours.

Knock! Knock!

After he knocked on the door a few times, a middle-aged woman opened the door.

Her eyes widened when she saw Tyler.

"Lord!"

She immediately bowed her head.

Tyler smiled and said.

"Raise your head!"

He didn’t mind them doing this since they used to just kneel in front of him every single time.

"Lord, I’m sorry Khalim is not here to greet you. He has gone out of the city for some business."

While saying that, she couldn’t help but show a look of worry.

He had gone for quite some time, and it wasn’t peaceful outside the city.

Seeing her expression, Tyler felt bad for disclosing her husband’s crime. His family hadn’t done anything wrong.

In fact, it was his mother who convinced Khalim to work as a police officer.

That statement alone forced Khalim to work day and night just to reach the rank of Vice-Chief.

But he steeled his heart. If he wanted to change the world, he needed to be realistic about his approach.

Just preaching wouldn’t help. He needed to show the consequences of doing wrong things.

"Mira, I have some bad news for you. Is your daughter inside?"

Tyler spoke.

Hearing that, Mira’s face turned pale as she stuttered.

"L-l-lord...did something happen to him?"

Tyler released a deep breath and said.

"I will explain everything, but first, if your daughter is inside, ask her to go out and play with her friends."

Mira barely had the strength to continue listening as she imagined the worst in her mind.

But that was nothing compared to what Tyler was about to say.

"She is out, playing with her friends."

Mira replied as she started shaking.

"Please come inside!"

She walked to the living room like a stiff stick.

"Mira, has Khalim returned?" An old voice came from inside.

Hearing that, Tyler whispered.

"Just tell her he hasn’t and be calm about it!"

Mira also understood her mother-in-law’s condition and tried to work on her voice before she shouted.

"He hasn’t, Mother."

"Oh!"

After that, Khalim’s mother didn’t speak, and Mira took them to her bedroom.

"Lord, what happened?"

After she closed the door, Mira gathered all of her strength and asked with a calm voice. But she was just forcing it.

Tyler took a deep breath and said.

"Your husband is charged with human trafficking. Those missing cases in our city were done by him."

"Impossible!"

Thud!

She shouted before falling to her knees in utter disbelief. Her face turned pale as she couldn’t believe what Tyler was saying.

"Khalim became jealous of John’s promotion to hunter. After he learned the truth behind my test, his jealousy distorted."

"One day, he came across a group running human auctions. He learned about their income and rewards."

"Because of his distorted jealousy, he started kidnapping women and selling them at those auctions."

"His identity will be hidden from the public, but he will be executed in public."

"I am here to inform you that your husband has died fighting a spirit that was trying to invade our city during my absence."

Saying that, he walked away but stopped just before the door, looking as he continued.

"Mira, I don’t want to be cruel to my own people. I also regret making tests like those, underestimating human nature."

"Soon, an academy will open in our city. Your daughter will join the academy. If she manages to get first place, I will deliver an extra reward to you."

"I hope you can overcome your grief and start training to join the Police."

Saying so, Tyler left with Misaka, leaving the grieving woman behind.

After they left her house, Misaka asked.

"Sir, why would a scum like Khalim deserve compensation? And, why hide his identity?"

Tyler looked at a bustling city and said.

"Because hatred is a strong weapon, Misaka. In a world where desires can turn into strength, I don’t want people of my city to live in hatred."

"Besides, his family doesn’t deserve punishment for what Khalim did. Otherwise, it will breed darkness that will engulf our city."
