Chapter 114: Chapter 114 - Heartless Stepbro

Lena stiffened immediately. Her face turned an alarming shade of red, her breath catching in her throat. She clenched the wooden railing tightly, trying to calm the wild pounding of her heart.

"W-What is it?" she asked, voice barely steady.

Lucas noticed her reaction—her shifting feet, her bitten lip, the way she was practically vibrating with nervous energy. He frowned slightly. "Let’s go somewhere private."

Lena’s brain short-circuited.

This is it.

Her fingers twitched against the wood. Is he finally going to acknowledge me as a woman?

After everything—the stolen glances, the tension, the... questionable encounters—she had waited for this moment. The way Lucas had called her out alone, his serious demeanor, his insistence that they be alone...

H-He’s finally going to confess?!

She swallowed hard, trying not to look too eager as she followed him down the stairs. Her legs felt weak as she trailed behind him through the narrow alley behind the inn, where the noise of the town faded. Her mind raced, imagining every possible scenario.

Would he pin me against the wall? Would he whisper huskily into my ear? Maybe he’d—_

Lucas turned sharply, facing her.

Lena’s heart almost burst out of her chest.

"About Aurelia’s offer—"

Lena blinked.

"H-Huh?"

Her breath hitched. It felt like someone had just poured a bucket of cold water over her head.

"Wait... this is about THAT?!"

Lucas gave her a confused look. "Yeah. What else would it be about?"

Lena’s face turned an even deeper shade of red.

"N-Nothing! Never mind!" she blurted, spinning around and clutching her burning cheeks. STUPID. STUPID. STUPID.

Lucas eyed her warily but continued. "I know you probably don’t understand why I rejected Aurelia’s offer so quickly, so I wanted to explain." He leaned against the wall, watching as Lena struggled to recover from her self-inflicted embarrassment. "The Holy Knights aren’t just some guild. If I join, I’ll be dragged into a war. And not just any war—one involving gods, demons, and forces I really don’t want to mess with."

Lena, still half-recovering, finally lowered her hands. "War against the Abyss, right? I mean... isn’t that basically every isekai plot ever?"

Lucas sighed. "Exactly. And you heard Aurelia—if I join, I’ll be under their constant watch. I can’t afford that."

Lena frowned, crossing her arms under her chest, unintentionally pushing up certain assets that Lucas was desperately trying not to look at. "Is it because you plan on leaving?"

Lucas hesitated. "That’s part of it."

"And the other part?"

Lucas exhaled sharply, rubbing his temple. "It’s... complicated."

Lena narrowed her eyes. "Lucas," she stepped closer, voice soft but firm. "We’ve been through a lot together. You saved me. We... share things no one else does."

Lucas felt a headache incoming.

Lena took another step forward, her scent—something sweet, warm, and just a little dangerous—invading his space. "If there’s something dangerous about all this, I want to know."

Lucas met her gaze, debating whether to tell her everything.

In the end, he sighed. "Alright. I’ll tell you."

Lena’s eyes gleamed.

So, Lucas explained. The warnings. The messenger. Zareth. The god of darkness who had already sensed his presence. The ominous message from the cloaked figure. How joining the Holy Knights would basically be serving himself up on a silver platter to a pissed-off deity.

Lena listened silently, arms crossed under her ample chest. When he finished, she let out a long breath. "So basically... you don’t want to die a horrible, soul-erasing death?"

Lucas nodded. "Yeah, that sums it up."

Lena looked thoughtful, then smirked. "Well, that makes sense."

Lucas blinked. "...Wait, that’s it? You’re not going to argue?"

Lena shrugged. "I mean, sure, it’s kinda lame that you’re backing out of a chance to be a legendary hero, but... not getting obliterated by an angry god sounds like a solid reason."

Then, she poked his chest.

Lucas immediately tensed.

"That being said," she said, tilting her head, "I have one condition."

Lucas narrowed his eyes. "A condition?"

Lena’s smirk widened. "Yep."

She took another step closer, their bodies nearly touching. Lucas felt his back press against the wall.

"Since you’re staying in this world and avoiding divine wrath... you’re not allowed to sleep with any other women."

Lucas’s survival instincts kicked in before his brain did. "Yeah, sure."

Silence.

Then his brain caught up.

Lucas’s eyes widened. "...Wait, WHAT?!"

Lena’s victorious giggle sent a chill down his spine. "You agreed, Lucas. No take-backs." 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

Lucas nearly choked. "I DID NOT MEAN THAT!"

Lena shrugged, looking oh-so-pleased with herself. "You said ’yeah, sure.’ That counts as a promise."

"IT WAS A REFLEX!"

Lena hummed in amusement, her expression one of pure smug satisfaction. "Well, maybe you should think before answering."

Lucas groaned, running a hand down his face. "This isn’t fair."

Lena leaned in, her breath warm against his ear. "What’s unfair is some random girl thinking she can have you when I’ve already claimed you."

Lucas’s stomach dropped.

"Claimed?" he repeated weakly.

Lena nodded firmly. "Obviously."

"Lena, this isn’t—"

She silenced him with another poke to the chest.

"Shhh."

Lucas felt his entire soul leave his body.

Then, the system’s text flickered into view.

[Ding!]

[ Congratulations, Host! You have unknowingly entered a ’One-Woman Only’ Contract! ]

Lucas nearly collapsed.

Lena, meanwhile, looked way too smug. "Well then, Onii-chan, let’s get going."

Lucas let out the longest, most suffering sigh of his life.

Lena grinned.

And with that, she grabbed his hand and led him back toward the town square, her smirk never fading.

Lucas, utterly defeated, could only follow.

Lucas let himself be dragged along, his thoughts still stuck on the nightmare he had just walked into.

A ’One-Woman Only’ Contract? What kind of twisted joke was this?

He sighed heavily as Lena practically skipped beside him, her grip firm around his wrist.

"Hey," he muttered, trying to shake off the frustration. "You know we’re step-siblings, right? Are you really okay with this?"

Lena slowed her pace slightly, turning to look at him. "Huh? What do you mean?"

Lucas gave her a flat look. "I mean, what happens when we go back to our world? We can’t exactly keep this up."

For a brief moment, Lena’s expression stiffened, her fingers tightening around his wrist. But then, she let out a dramatic sigh, placing her free hand on her hip.

"Lucas," she said in a serious tone, "you do realize this is all your fault, right?"

Lucas frowned. "My fault?"

Lena nodded firmly, crossing her arms under her chest. "Yes. If you hadn’t ruined me that night, none of this would be happening."

Lucas choked. "R-Ruined?!"

Lena let out another exaggerated sigh, looking away with a forced, melancholic expression. "It’s tragic, really... A poor, innocent girl like me, taken advantage of by my heartless stepbrother..."
