Chapter 62: Chapter 62 - Absolute Cure

The night was quiet except for the faint hum of the heater. Maya had long since gone to bed, her clingy presence finally giving Lucas some breathing room. Sitting alone in the dimly lit living room, Lucas exhaled deeply, relishing the rare moment of solitude.

The system’s voice interrupted his peace.

[Host, would you like to use a spin? You currently have 22 spin tokens available.]

Lucas smirked. "Why not? Let’s use four tokens." Lucas pick the skill spin and spin it.

A glowing roulette wheel appeared in his vision, spinning rapidly. One by one, the slots clicked into place.

[Congratulations! You’ve unlocked the skill Absolute Cure.]

Description: This skill allows the user to heal any disease, wound, or ailment within one week.

Cooldown: One month.

Lucas leaned forward, intrigued. "A skill that can heal anything? Not bad. This could actually come in handy."

The system’s voice returned, this time laced with sarcasm.

[ Impressive, Host. But I bet you’ll procrastinate using it on your father because you’re too busy enjoying your "alabanah shit moment" with your stepmother. ]

Lucas groaned, rolling his eyes. "That’s ridiculous. I’m not delaying anything for that reason."

[Sure, Host. Whatever helps you sleep at night.]

Lucas clenched his jaw, glaring at the interface. "Listen, I have a plan. Before I heal my dad, I need to deal with the real pest—Victor. Once I’ve handled him, then I’ll use the skill on my father."

The system chuckled in its usual mocking tone.

[As you wish, Host. Just remember—time waits for no one, and neither do pests. Good luck cleaning up your mess.]

Lucas dismissed the interface with a sigh, leaning back into the couch. His mind was already turning, strategizing the best way to take Victor down while ensuring no loose ends. The night stretched on, but Lucas’s focus was sharper than ever.

Lucas’s phone vibrated again, pulling him out of his thoughts. He glanced at the screen, seeing a message from Cindy. His brow furrowed. Cindy, the overly clingy e-girl from his neighborhood, wasn’t someone he expected to hear from while he was back in his hometown.

[Cindy]: Heyyyy Lucas! 🖤 I miss you so much. When are you coming back? I... um, need your help with something.

Lucas sighed, leaning back against the couch. Cindy had always been dramatic, but her messages had a way of being both vague and demanding. He didn’t even consider her a real friend—it was her one-sided insistence on being his "secret friend" that made her harder to ignore.

He typed a short reply.

[Lucas]: What do you want, Cindy? I’m not back yet.

Her response came almost immediately.

[Cindy]: Aww, I miss you more than you miss me 🥺. You’re such a meanie, Lucas. But... it’s kinda important. Can you come back soon? I really need your help.

Lucas frowned, staring at the screen. What could she possibly need help with? Cindy was resourceful enough to manipulate others into solving her problems. Why was she asking him?

[Lucas]: Just tell me what it’s about.

There was a short pause before her reply came through.

[Cindy]: I can’t explain over text. It’s complicated. But... it’s about someone. Please, just let me know when you’re back, okay? Promise you’ll come see me first?

Lucas put his phone down, feeling a mixture of annoyance and curiosity. Cindy was always vague, but this seemed different. Something about the way she emphasized "someone" made him wonder if she’d gotten herself into trouble—or worse, dragged someone else into it.

"What are you up to now, Cindy?" he muttered, shaking his head.

Still, there wasn’t much he could do from here. He decided to leave her message unanswered for now. Whatever it was, it would have to wait until he returned.

Lucas leaned back into the worn couch, his mind drifting to Cindy’s cryptic messages, but soon his focus shifted. Reaching into his system inventory, he summoned the Dominion Grimoire—a sleek, black-bound book with an eerie crimson glow emanating from its edges. The moment it appeared in his hands, the system’s voice chimed in.

[What are you planning to do with that, Host?]

Lucas smirked, running his fingers over the embossed cover. "Nothing too drastic. I just want to write Victor’s name in here."

The system paused, then asked in its usual snide tone,

[And how, pray tell, are you going to activate dominion over his body? Are you planning to make him stare into your eyes for ten seconds like some amateur hypnotist?]

Lucas chuckled, then erupted into laughter, the sound filling the empty room. "Oh, come on, System. Have you forgotten who you’re talking to? I’m a crook. Tricking an old man like Victor is second nature to me."

The system remained silent, likely processing his words, while Lucas opened the Dominion Grimoire and flipped to a blank page. He picked up the black pen that had materialized alongside the book, poised to write.

"Here’s the plan," Lucas said, his voice laced with amusement. "Victor’s always been a sucker for stories about the big city. I’ll tell him I’ve been making a living as a magician—something flashy, something he can’t resist."

The system interjected, [ A magician? You, Host? ]

Lucas smirked. "Exactly. I’ll set up a little trick, make him curious. Then, I’ll perform a ’magic act’ that just so happens to require him to look into my eyes for ten seconds. He’ll fall for it, hook, line, and sinker."

The system let out a mock sigh.

[Sometimes, Host, I wonder if your cunning is a blessing or a curse. Fine. Enjoy your little charade. Just make sure it works—failure would be... embarrassing.]

Lucas grinned as he wrote Victor’s name into the Dominion Grimoire, the crimson glow intensifying as the ink settled on the page. "Oh, don’t worry, System. This is going to work perfectly. Victor won’t even know what hit him."

As he closed the book, the glow faded, leaving only the faint hum of the storm outside. Lucas leaned back, tossing the grimoire onto the table with a satisfied smirk. "It’s time for Victor to meet the real me—and for me to take the third step in cleaning up the pests."
