Chapter 85: Chapter 85 - New Journey With StepSis

As soon as Lucas pressed the button, the metallic sphere lifted from his palm, hovering in midair. A faint hum vibrated through the room as a swirling blue light expanded outward, spiraling into a vortex. The portal formed—a mesmerizing window to the cosmos, shifting and shimmering like a distant galaxy. Energy pulsed from it, sending a gust of wind that ruffled his clothes and made his heart pound.

Lucas’ eyes widened in sheer excitement. "Holy shit..."

This was it. A real, honest-to-God portal.

His fingers clenched, adrenaline kicking in. This was insane, reckless, and quite possibly the dumbest thing he’d ever done.

But damn, did it look cool.

He took a deep breath, ready to step through—only for the door behind him to swing open with a loud BAM.

"What the hell is that?!"

Lucas stiffened.

Standing in the doorway, staring at the glowing vortex with a mix of shock and suspicion, was Lena—his step-sister.

Shit.

Lena marched forward, eyes narrowed. "Lucas, what the actual fuck are you doing?"

Lucas took a cautious step back, mentally scrambling for an excuse. "Uh, it’s, uh... not what it looks like."

Lena crossed her arms. "Oh, really? Because it looks like you just ripped a hole in reality."

Lucas winced. "Okay, so maybe it is what it looks like."

Before he could say anything else, Lena reached out—completely ignoring his protests—and touched the portal’s surface.

The moment her fingers made contact, a wave of energy rippled outward.

And then she vanished.

Just—gone.

The portal pulsed violently for a second before stabilizing again.

Lucas blinked.

His brain short-circuited.

"...Shit."

[ System Notification: Warning! Portal will close in 30 seconds. Enter now or lose access until next activation. ]

Lucas barely had time to process the message before instinct took over.

There was no way he was leaving Lena alone in whatever-the-hell world was on the other side.

Without hesitation, he lunged forward, diving straight into the swirling abyss.

A New World

The moment he passed through, Lucas felt weightless, as if gravity had momentarily forgotten him. A strange tingling sensation crawled across his skin before—

Thud.

He landed.

On grass.

Lucas groaned, pushing himself up to his hands and knees. His vision spun for a moment before settling.

The first thing he noticed was the sky—deep blue with two suns hanging in the air.

The second thing he noticed was the landscape—rolling green fields stretching toward misty mountains in the distance, ancient ruins dotting the horizon.

The third thing he noticed?

Lena.

Flat on her back, groaning, looking just as disoriented as he felt.

Before he could even say anything, the portal behind him flickered, shrinking rapidly. In mere seconds, it collapsed in on itself, morphing back into the metallic sphere that now lay quietly on the ground.

Lucas gulped.

[ System Notification: Welcome to ???. You are now locked in for 30 days. Good luck, dumbass. ]

Lena groaned. "Lucas... where the hell are we?"

Lucas exhaled, staring at the alien landscape in front of him.

"...I have no idea."

And just like that, step bro and steps sis one-month adventure had officially begun.

Lucas barely had a moment to catch his breath before Lena sat up, her sharp eyes locking onto him.

"Alright, start talking," she demanded, brushing grass off her jeans. "What the hell was that thing? Why did I get sucked in? And where the hell are we?"

Lucas hesitated, rubbing the back of his neck. "Uh... okay, so, long story short—"

"Make it a short story shorter," Lena interrupted.

Lucas sighed. "I found this weird ball. Pressed a button. It made a portal. You touched it. Now we’re here."

Lena blinked. Then blinked again.

"...Are you shitting me?"

Lucas threw up his hands. "Do I look like I’m joking?"

Lena opened her mouth to argue—but then something else caught her attention. Her expression shifted, curiosity replacing frustration.

"Wait, what is that?"

Lucas followed her gaze.

A few feet away, something wobbled in the grass. Then another. And another.

Jiggling, translucent blobs—small, round, and bouncing slightly with every movement. Their bodies shimmered in the sunlight, reflecting hints of blue, green, and purple.

Slimes.

They were slimes.

Lucas tensed immediately, his instincts screaming danger. In every fantasy game he’d ever played, these things were either harmless trash mobs or horrific nightmare creatures in disguise.

Lena, on the other hand, clapped her hands together, her previous irritation completely forgotten.

"Oh my God, they’re adorable!"

Lucas’ eye twitched. "What."

Lena scrambled to her feet, stepping closer to the little creatures. "Look at them! They’re like tiny, bouncy jellybeans!"

The slimes wobbled in unison, their gooey bodies pulsing as they turned toward Lena.

Lucas’ gut told him this was not a good idea. "Lena, don’t—"

Too late.

She crouched down and reached out to touch one.

The moment her fingers brushed its surface, the slime jumped.

Straight onto her face.

"MMF!"

Lena flailed wildly, stumbling backward as the gelatinous creature clung to her like a living mask.

Lucas instinctively took a step back. "Oh yeah, real cute," he muttered.

The other slimes suddenly perked up. Then, as if sensing weakness, they started hopping toward them.

Lucas’ stomach dropped.

"Shit."

[ System Notification: Caution! Wild Slimes detected. Low-level threat. Highly aggressive in large numbers. ]

Lucas barely had time to register the warning before Lena finally managed to rip the slime off her face, gasping for breath.

"Okay! Not cute anymore!"

Lucas barely had a second to breathe before the ground around them started shifting. More slimes emerged from the tall grass—dozens of them, all jiggling aggressively as they closed in.

Lena staggered back, still wiping slime residue off her face. "Okay—what the hell?! Why are there so many?!"

Lucas cursed under his breath. "I don’t know! Maybe because you touched one?!"

But before Lena could argue, the temperature around them spiked.

A deep, guttural glorp echoed through the air.

Lucas turned his head—and froze.

Rising from the middle of the swarm was something much bigger. A slime—except this one wasn’t the cute, bouncy kind. It was massive, easily as tall as a small car, its body glowing a fiery orange. Molten liquid sloshed inside its translucent form, and as it jiggled, small embers flickered from its core.

[ System Notification: WARNING! Lava Slime detected. Medium-level threat. Contact will cause severe burns. ]

Lucas swallowed hard. "Oh, great."

Lena, meanwhile, let out a strangled laugh—half hysteria, half disbelief. "What kind of fever dream bullshit is this?!"

Then the slimes moved.

The smaller ones lunged first, bouncing forward with surprising speed. Lucas barely managed to sidestep as one whizzed past his shoulder. Another launched itself at Lena, forcing her to duck with a startled yelp.

The Lava Slime trembled, its body swelling—then suddenly spat a glob of burning-hot sludge toward them.

"MOVE!" Lucas shouted.

The two of them bolted.

Dodging between the bouncing horde, they ran as fast as they could, Lena still throwing frantic questions over her shoulder. "WHAT IS GOING ON?! WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?! WHY AM I BEING CHASED BY SENTIENT JELLY?"

"You think I know?!" Lucas snapped, breathing heavily. "You’re the one who called them cute!"

[ System Notification: Host is in immediate danger. Evaluating available skills... ]

Lucas clenched his jaw. He needed something. He still wasn’t sure how this world worked, but if he had system messages, then he had skills. And if he had skills—

A memory clicked.

"Shadow Blink."

His eyes widened. That was it. A short-range teleport ability. It wasn’t much, but it was enough.

Problem was—

He looked at Lena, who was barely keeping up.

—he’d have to take her with him.

Lucas grit his teeth. "Screw it."

"Lena! Hold on!"

"Wait, what—?"

Before she could finish, Lucas grabbed her by the waist and lifted.

"Jesus Christ, why are you so heavy—?!"

"Excuse me?!"

Ignoring her outrage, Lucas activated the skill.

In an instant, shadows curled around his feet. The world blurred.

Then—

Whoosh.

They reappeared ten meters away in a blink.

The sudden shift made Lucas stumble, almost dropping Lena in the process. His legs buckled from the strain of carrying her weight while teleporting, and he barely managed to keep himself from collapsing.

Lena, dazed, looked around wildly. "What just happened?!"

"Shadow Blink," Lucas panted. "We teleported."

She gawked at him. "Since when can you teleport?!"

"Since now," he huffed. "Now run before the lava jelly catches up."

Behind them, the slimes briefly paused, their wobbly forms quivering in confusion.

Then, as if realizing their prey had moved, they surged forward again.

Lena groaned. "You’ve gotta be kidding me."

"Less talking, more running!"

And with that, they took off once more, the fiery glow of the Lava Slime burning bright behind them.

Lucas and Lena were running out of breath. The swarm of slimes was relentless, and the Lava Slime’s molten core cast an ominous glow behind them, the heat licking at their backs.

"I swear to God, Lucas," Lena wheezed. "If we die because of your stupid magic ball, I am going to haunt you in the afterlife!"

"Noted—" Lucas gasped. "Now keep running—!"

Just as another slime lunged at them—

A blur of motion sliced through the air.

SHWIP.

A razor-sharp arrow whizzed past, striking the attacking slime dead-center. The creature burst into a splash of goo, dissolving instantly.

Lucas and Lena skidded to a stop.

"What—"

Before they could even process what had just happened, another arrow flew—then another. The slimes recoiled, their advance suddenly halted as their numbers were cut down in seconds.

And then, stepping into view, was her.

An elf.

A very voluptuous elf.

Lucas’ brain short-circuited.

She was gorgeous—long, golden hair cascading down her back, piercing green eyes glowing in the moonlight. Her ears were sharp and elegant, but what really stood out was her... figure.

Her outfit—or rather, lack of one—was barely enough to be called armor. She wore a skimpy, leaf-patterned top that barely covered her massive chest, held together by thin straps that looked like they were desperately trying to keep everything in place. Her toned stomach was completely exposed, and her hips were hugged by a pair of dangerously low-cut shorts, revealing long, smooth legs.

She exuded confidence, standing tall with a sleek, curved bow in hand.

"You two look like you could use some help," she said, her voice smooth and alluring.

Lucas’ mouth opened. Then closed. Then opened again.

"Uh—"
