Chapter 89: Chapter 89 - Raventhorn

He exhaled slowly, then forced a casual shrug. "Just a low-level spell from my hometown."

The woman raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. "Low-level spell?" She let out a short, amused laugh. "Your hometown must be quite... interesting."

Lucas coughed into his fist, ignoring the knowing smirk on her lips. Lena, still wary, cut in before the conversation could veer any further.

"More importantly, where are we?" she asked, her tone firm.

The woman studied them for a moment before she finally smiled, a mysterious glint in her eyes. "You’re not from around here, are you?"

Neither Lucas nor Lena answered.

She took that as confirmation.

"Well then," she leaned back slightly, her expression unreadable. "My name is Aurelia Quintessa."

Lucas blinked. That sounded like a Latin name—or at least something close to it. Unique, yet elegant. It suited her.

Aurelia’s lips curled into a smirk as she continued, "And right now, you’re standing in the borderlands of Velmoria, one of the four great kingdoms that rule this continent."

Lucas and Lena exchanged quick glances.

Velmoria?

Aurelia’s smirk deepened. "Judging by your expressions, you have no idea what that means."

Lucas hesitated before nodding. "Not a clue."

Aurelia’s eyes narrowed slightly, curiosity flashing across her face. "You don’t know the names of the four ruling kingdoms of the continent?" She sounded genuinely perplexed.

Lena crossed her arms. "Should we?"

A tense silence followed.

Aurelia studied them carefully, her gaze sharp and calculating. "Just where exactly did you two come from?"

Lucas met her gaze, debating his answer.

Lena, however, sighed in exasperation. "Look, we don’t know what’s going on, we don’t know where we are, and frankly, we’re just trying to figure out how to survive right now."

Aurelia hummed in thought, her expression thoughtful. Then, she smiled, as if she had come to a decision.

"Well, in that case, consider yourselves lucky." She gestured to herself. "You just happened to run into a very generous woman willing to educate you poor lost souls."

Lucas wasn’t sure if she was being sarcastic or not.

Lena remained skeptical. "And what do you want in return?"

Aurelia chuckled. "Smart girl." She leaned forward slightly, her eyes glinting with something unreadable. "Let’s just say... I have a feeling you two might be more interesting than you appear."

Lucas tensed slightly. That didn’t sound like a good thing.

Aurelia stood up, dusting off her cloak. "We’ll talk more in the morning. For now, you should rest." She glanced at them over her shoulder. "Welcome to Velmoria. I hope you’re ready for what’s coming."

With that, she walked deeper into the cave, leaving Lucas and Lena alone in the flickering light of the glowing crystal.

Lena sighed heavily, running a hand through her damp hair. "I don’t trust her."

Lucas smirked. "Yeah, no kidding."

But one thing was clear—if they wanted to survive in this world, they needed information.

And for now, Aurelia was their best chance at getting it.

The Next Morning.

Lucas awoke to the sound of crackling fire and the distant chirping of birds outside the cave. The warmth from the embers mixed with the cool morning air, creating a strangely comfortable contrast. Stretching his sore limbs, he glanced around.

Lena was still asleep, curled up against a makeshift blanket made of fur that Aurelia must have provided. Meanwhile, their mysterious savior was already up, crouching near the entrance of the cave, sharpening a dagger.

"Morning," Lucas mumbled, rubbing his eyes.

Aurelia looked up and smirked. "You sleep like a log."

Lucas ignored the comment. "So, what’s the plan?"

Aurelia stood up and sheathed her dagger. "We’re heading to Raventhorn—the nearest city."

Lucas perked up at that. "A city?"

Lena groaned as she sat up, still groggy. "Already?"

Aurelia shrugged. "You want to survive, right? Then you need supplies, information, and—" she gestured at their clothes, "—some proper outfits before people start calling you wandering freaks."

Lucas glanced down at himself—his damp hoodie and jeans were dry but still looked completely out of place in a medieval fantasy world. Lena wasn’t any better, her modern short pants and jacket making her stick out just as much.

"Fair point," Lena muttered, standing up and stretching.

Aurelia tossed a small pouch toward Lucas. He caught it and opened it to find several silver and copper coins inside.

"Consider it a loan," she said. "You’ll need money once we reach the city."

Lucas grinned. "You’re being surprisingly generous."

Aurelia smirked. "Oh, don’t get too comfortable. You’ll pay me back eventually."

Lena shot Lucas a warning glance. "Let’s just go before we attract more trouble."

With that, the three of them set off toward Raventhorn.

---

The journey took a few hours, but the moment they passed through the open fields and saw the city in the distance, Lucas’s excitement skyrocketed.

Raventhorn was massive. Surrounded by sturdy stone walls, its towering buildings were made of dark wood and white stone, resembling something straight out of a medieval fantasy novel. Narrow streets twisted and turned between multi-story houses, with wooden signs hanging above shop entrances. The aroma of freshly baked bread and roasted meat drifted through the air, mingling with the scent of burning coal from blacksmith forges.

Market stalls lined the streets, filled with merchants selling everything from exotic fabrics to magical trinkets. People bustled about, their outfits consisting of tunics, cloaks, and leather armor—completely in contrast to Lucas and Lena’s modern attire.

Lucas’s eyes sparkled. "Holy shit. This is amazing."

Lena, on the other hand, remained skeptical, her arms crossed. "It’s a city. Don’t act like a tourist."

Aurelia chuckled at Lucas’s enthusiasm. "Enjoy it while you can. You’ll be dealing with all sorts of people here—merchants, thieves, nobles, adventurers... some will be friendly, some will want to stab you."

Lucas barely heard her, too engrossed in the sight of an old man selling enchanted books and a blacksmith hammering away at a gleaming sword.

As they walked deeper into the city, however, they began to attract attention.

People stopped in their tracks to stare at Lucas and Lena. Whispers spread through the crowd. Some children pointed at them, giggling, while adults exchanged confused glances.

"Who are they?"

"Look at their strange clothes..."

"Are they foreigners?"

A burly man muttered, "They look like they came from some lost kingdom."

Lena pulled her hood up, clearly uncomfortable. "I hate this."

Lucas, however, only grinned. "They’re just curious." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Aurelia sighed. "Yeah, but you two stick out like sore thumbs. We need to get you proper outfits before someone thinks you’re escaped nobles or spies."

Before they could decide on their next move, a voice called out from nearby.

"Aurelia! You finally showed up!"

Lucas turned to see a group of people approaching—clearly familiar with Aurelia.

---

Aurelia smirked as they walked up. "Took you guys long enough."

The group consisted of three individuals:

1. A tall, muscular man with dark hair and a greatsword strapped to his back. His arms were crossed, and he had a confident smirk on his face. "Still picking up strays, Aurelia?"

2. A red-haired woman in a flowing robe, a staff in her hand. Her bright green eyes assessed Lucas and Lena with clear curiosity. "They do look strange."

3. A short, hooded figure with a pair of daggers strapped to their belt. They said nothing but stared at Lucas with sharp, calculating eyes.

"They’re not strays," Aurelia said, rolling her eyes. "More like lost puppies."

Lucas raised an eyebrow. "Rude."

The muscular man chuckled. "I’m Darius. That’s Elira," he gestured to the red-haired woman, "and that little shadow is Varian."

Varian scoffed but said nothing.

Elira smiled. "So, where did you two come from?"

Lucas hesitated. "Uh... a faraway land?"

Darius laughed. "I figured."

Aurelia waved a hand dismissively. "We’ll talk later. First, we need to get these two some proper clothes before someone reports them to the guards."

Elira chuckled. "I know just the place."

---

A short walk later, they arrived at a tailor’s shop, a cozy-looking building with mannequins dressed in elegant cloaks and tunics displayed at the entrance. The scent of fabric and leather filled the air.

Aurelia pushed Lucas and Lena inside. "Pick something. Quickly."

Lucas grinned as he browsed through the racks of medieval-style outfits. "This is like a fantasy RPG."

Lena sighed. "Just don’t pick anything ridiculous."

In the end, Lucas chose a dark tunic with silver embroidery, paired with sturdy leather pants and boots. A black cloak completed the look.

Lena went for a more practical outfit—fitted dark trousers, a sleeveless tunic, and a lightweight but durable coat.

Aurelia paid for the clothes, muttering, "You’re still in debt," before ushering them out.

Now dressed more appropriately, they blended in much better. The stares from the townspeople lessened, though a few still eyed them with curiosity.

As they walked back onto the bustling streets, Aurelia glanced at them and smirked.

"Now," she said, "let’s see if you two can survive Raventhorn without getting yourselves killed."

Lucas grinned.

Bring it on.
