Under the vampire Lord's protection-Chapter 109: Two weeks
Chapter 109: Two weeks
"Really?" Ada’s widened eyes sparkled as she gripped her quill tightly.
"Yes! Really!" Arabella chirped, "I suppose the particularity is exclusive to fairies. Oh! It is most interesting!" the young woman held a book open before placing it down on the table, "Look here! It says that fairies’ role during the war was crucial as they alone had the ability to see through deceit," looking pensive, Arabella paused and let out a little hum, "That makes a lot of sense, honestly,"
"It does?"
The furrowed eyebrows on Ada prompted her to elaborate, "Well, yes," she started, "The leaders of the army of liberty back then stopped at nothing to ensure victory, even turning to witchcraft as a weapon. Since fairies are able to see one’s aura, then they would have been the only creatures capable of spotting an ally from an enemy masquerading as one," her index finger went over a specific paragraph on the page that had her full attention.
"Then it is very interesting indeed," at those words Ada’s eyebrows were slightly raised while she simultaneously nodded and smiled, "Whitcraft can accomplish so much but can’t replicate an aura. I did not know that,"
"Neither did I," Arabella’s eyes then jumped onto the notebook Ada had under her wrist, "How are the letters coming along?" she asked.
"Quite well, actually," the maid leaned back a little, allowing Arabella a better view of the page, "I think I’ve gotten accustomed to them. They are much easier to replicate now, and I don’t even feel the need to look at the source sheet anymore," Ada simpered, the radiance of her beaming almost rivaling the rays from the sun which prepared to descend and sink behind the hills already.
"Much like multiple other skills out there, writing and reading are mostly honed through a lot of repetition and more importantly a generous amount of patience. Especially at the beginning,"
"That is fair," Ada’s head swayed slightly to the side before resting against her free hand, "The educator I had back then was not of the patient kind. Well, never with me, at least," her smile dimmed a little, eyes sort of drifting away, into a land separate from reality, "Though, it did take me a lot longer to grasp basic concepts than my peers... I’ve always trailed at the tail end of the herd," a bit of redness had gathered around the maid’s cheeks throughout her speech.
"Different people travel at different paces," Arabella lay a gentle hand around Ada’s, "There is absolutely never any shame in that," she shook her head repeatedly to send the point across, "Like I said, all you have to do is repeat on a daily basis and be patient, until you don’t need to stick to that routine anymore. It can get a bit boring, but you have to keep it up and allow time to work its magic," she gave her a little squeeze to go with the words of encouragement. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
"Oh Miss...!" by then, a few tears had already gathered in Ada’s eyes, "It is admirably kind of you to spend your precious time on me like so," her tone indicated a struggle to utter her piece, but she’d very successfully contained her emotions, plastering a hearty enough smile towards the end.
"Whether you are doing so willingly or not, you are still spending your own time on me as well, so...," Arabella trailed off.
In response, Ada sort of shifted a little in her seat, face reddening further, "Believe me, Miss; I could not have asked for a better way to spend my time or better company,"
The two of them allowed a few giggles to fill the library space around them, but then something overcame Ada’s traits. Her smile faded gradually, earning Arabella’s concern.
"What is it?" very soft, the young woman’s tone was.
Ada twiddled her fingers for a few seconds before speaking up, "Well, it is merely that we’ve been speaking of time and it dawned on me, it has already been two weeks since you...," her words seemed to hitch in her throat.
However, the mention of two weeks gave Arabella a solid inkling as to what the maid had in mind.
"Oh...," her face fell completely.
"Please forgive me if I am overstepping. I am merely asking out of concern that is all!" a bit hastily, Ada waved her hands in front of herself.
"No, you’ve done nothing wrong," she said, "It has been two weeks, but Master Silas hasn’t made any mention of it. Though I am sure he’ll summon me like he did before when the time comes,"
"I... Well...,"
The awkward expression on Ada turned the eyebrows of the young woman facing her knitted, "Is everything alright?"
"Yes. It is just that he... May curb the intention to summon you," Ada stated a little apprehensively.
"What do you mean?" an uncomfortable chuckle escaped Arabella.
"I don’t really know the right way to describe it as a human, but I’ve seen the way the Master eyed us when we were in Edgar’s company. I also noticed the way he tries to cheer you up whenever something makes a dent in your mood," Ada offered the most apologetic smile she mustered at the time, "It is not hard to understand the gossip filling the hallways when it is very clear, he is sweet on you. In his own way, of course,"
"I..., It’s...," Arabella fumbled for appropriate words and found none.
"It is alright. Tis not outrageous. I believe I told you that vampires can grow attached and somewhat possessif over their blood providers. This does not happen very often, but when they do find the person interesting enough, they tend to latch onto them,"
"Yes.... Worry not, Ada. I’ve heard that part before. I am well aware it is mere infatuation and not love in the sense we know it,"
Arabella did her best to plaster a comforting smile, but the persistent look of unease the maid displayed wiped it away in an instant.
