Under the vampire Lord's protection-Chapter 140: Alpha Cynric
Chapter 140: Alpha Cynric
The musky and slightly sour hint that mingled with the scent of damp earth and pine emanating from Cynric was only overshadowed by the whiffs of bloody, raw meat wafting with each of his breaths.
Arabella’s sole resort to escape them was to take steps back and allow Silas’s figure to somewhat come between herself and the wolf man.
A guttural laugh escaped him as he straightened up, "You know, I was only joking about the human sacrifice thing but now that I have this one in front of me... Who knows?" he marked a pause during which he practically undressed her with his eyes, "A deal in exchange for the spring equinox celebration in the caverns sounds very tempting right about now," he chuckled.
"It is time for you to leave," the ice in Silas’s voice had never been colder than that.
"Why the rush? Things have just started getting interesting," Cynric’s gaze flickered between Silas and Arabella, a devilish smirk painting his features, "Wait a damn minute!" he leaned closer again, taking sharp and audible sniffs of her before turning back towards Silas, "Your scent is all over her and now that I see it, hers is all over you as well," his attention was then whisked by her clothing choices, "She’s far too well dressed to be a maid, so what? Is she yours or something?"
Ada, who stood an inch or two behind Arabella, clenched at the young woman’s gown, frozen in her place.
"That is enough," Silas’s tone never changed, still calm but quite firm.
"If you haven’t claimed her then I don’t see why I can’t have her,"
The glint in Cynric’s eyes as they moved from Arabella’s lips down to her neck before traveling even lower to her cleavage only grew bolder, his own lips drawing a wider grin on him.
"Need I remind you that you still stand under our roof, Cynric?" Silas had formed an interrogation but the monotone way in which he had voiced it sounded nothing like one.
"Well, look at you, all bothered!" he chuckles again, "And all it took is her to light that fire in you again,"
Arabella would have argued Silas looked as calm as his usual, but then again, she wasn’t the one with heightened senses and thus would need direct, physical contact in order to gauge his emotional state.
Not to mention, her own heart raced itself for the highest record amount of blood pumped through her veins to that date. The young woman feared her skin would fail to contain the heat from it.
"Alright, alright! I am indeed under your roof. Even I know when to stop," he then looked at Arabella, "You’re in your prime, but don’t wait for too long or that caravane might just pass you. If you seek a mate that speaks more than four words in a sentence, you’ll know where to find me,"
With that, Cynric walked ahead, leaving Silas and the two women behind.
The vampire stood in place, putting his best efforts into concealing his clenched fist behind his back.
"Return to your room," he uttered without a glance her way.
Both Ada and Arabella curtsied and scampered out of that hallway the instant their feet obeyed them.
The young woman dropped her weight on the side of her bed the moment she came close enough to it while Ada shut the door behind herself and held it for a good moment, seemingly absorbed by her own inner voices.
"Honestly... An Alpha werewolf of his age that proposes to a human in such a manner is quite eerie," Ada’s voice shook throughout her sentence.
"Proposes?" Arabella’s head snapped her way.
"Well, he did just declare he considered you a candidate for mating...," Ada finally let go of the door and took a seat on a chair near her.
"Was that really him? This Alpha Cynric that was supposed to meet with the Master?" her face returned a mix of disbelief and denial.
"Well, you saw him just like I did, Miss," Ada paused for a few seconds before launching into a new related rant, "Isn’t he over a hundred years of age or something? How does he think it would work between you two? Not to mention you are not even of the same kind," her hands went round and about, gesticulating in motions that seemed random.
Arabella kept quiet on that, mostly thinking about something else the wolf man had uttered about her... About her eyes.
Something along the lines of "seen them somewhere else once upon a time".
At first, she believed he might have met her father, However, with Ada’s words about his age in consideration, perhaps he saw them on someone else. Someone with Sterling blood coursing in their veins.
"What did you think of him?" Ada’s voice plucked her out of her contemplation.
"Pardon?" she muttered.
"What did you think of Alpha Cynric? I mean, how does he look to you?"
All that outrage in Ada seemed to have melted, leaving place to a newfound curiosity. Her cheeks a little flushed, the maid had simmered down and gawked at Arabella with a lot of anticipation.
"Well, he is... He seems," eyebrows twitching, the northern side of that conversation had completely escaped her, "I don’t know. What am I supposed to think of him? He is quite bold and a bit... Scary,"
Upon uttering those words, her hands clasped her arms, slowly rubbing them up and down as the imagine of him staring at her the way he did flashed back behind her eyes.
"I hope Master Silas wasn’t too aggravated by his words," Ada looked through the window, "He was very bold, wasn’t he?" she reiterated Arabella’s words, "He’s a bit handsome too though, isn’t he?"
The maid’s words gave Arabella whiplash like no other she’d ever experienced. From total indignation at his conduct to coyly commenting about how attractive he looked... It left her mouth agape, at a complete loss of words.
"Ada, do you hear yourself?"
