Under the vampire Lord's protection-Chapter 589: From her very mouth
Another pause budded in between lines as Allegra did her very best to keep a hold over her voice.
"At first, I would just find it odd but ultimately innocent... As time went on, however, I tried to put my foot down and ask why the questions," her eyes were strictly on Persephone again, "He did not like that one bit and threatened to expose me, said that you would have me leave or punish me because I had stupidly answered all of his questions before. At that moment...," the words failed her.
"Your heart must’ve ached," everyone’s attention snapped onto Persephone who sat and spoke very calmly.
Allegra’s eyes fluttered around, still fighting the tears, "It felt like someone had ripped my heart out. I looked at his face and could recognize none of his traits," her head shook slowly, "He no longer looked like the man I had met before. He had become someone else entirely, but...," she took a deep breath, "When I refused to budge, he brought my attention onto Katherine and Grace and... You as well," the strain on her throat was more than audible. The syllables seemed to claw at her inner walls in order to be free.
"I know he threatened our safety," Persephone interjected again, her voice steady yet warm, "You do not have to say that part out loud," her pitch-black eyes flickered up at Arabella who nodded in response.
That was it. Seemingly the drop that flooded the dam. Allegra wrapped her hands over her mouth as she burst into tears.
"I didn’t know if he truly presented a threat to you, but I did not wish to test him," she sniffled through sobs.
"No, of course not. After all, he was the callous man to treat his long-lost daughter as nothing but a mere tool," the only thing that moved in Persephone were her lips and chest as it rose and fell while breathing, "I wouldn’t put anything beneath him,"
"At first, it was just the same business questions," Allegra found the courage to go on, "But then, you came along," she once more looked up at Arabella.
The young woman lowered herself to their eye level and sat upon a rock of her own.
"His requests became stranger and stranger, but he assured me that all he wanted was... To return you home," her eyes fell to the ground, "I was informed of Edna’s involvement as well as the potion that had been given to her,"
"The potion was meant for me, wasn’t it?" Silas’ voice finally rose.
"It was, but... It was merely supposed to make you agree to bring Lady Arabella along for the outing that was meant for sealing the tunnels," her head hung low, apparently too heavy to lift, "But instead, Edna turned around and used it on Katherine," her sobs only grew harder to control, "It was only after the entire ordeal that I found out that Lauden, his right hand man, had a thing for Edna,"
"He did not know about you, didn’t he?" Persephone chimed in.
"No," she squeaked a choked no, arms around her own stomach as she kept staring downwards.
"You did not tell them about what brought me back to life until the end," that time around, it was Arabella that meddled, "Why?"
Arabella had asked her that question before but came to ask again so that Silas and Persephone would hear the answer from Allegra’s very mouth.
"I lowered the frequency of my replies to him around that time and the only thing I said was that things were too chaotic, and I did not wish to take unnecessary risks. I never volunteered any information unless he cornered me with a direct question about it," she shook her head.
There followed a lapse of time where nothing was said as though everyone was just giving Allegra the space to cry all her tears.
But it appeared, Persephone was the first to have enough of it. Her hand gravitated towards Allegra’s head and just rested upon it.
The moment the connection was established, Allegra’s head snapped upwards, "I am sorry! I really meant to cause no harm. I am so sorry, mother! Please find in you the strength to forgive me one day! I’ll never stand in anyone’s way again. I promise! Please, forgive me!" she raved like a lunatic who had lost it all, hurling one word after the other nearly at the speed of light.
In response, the only thing Persephone did was pull the younger vampiress into a tight embrace, burying her face in her hair.
Allegra’s cries persisted but turned muffled as her mouth and nose were pressed against Persephone’s shoulder.
"You stupid girl," Persephone spat those words while shedding quiet tears of her own.
As the seconds went on, the women showed no sign of letting go of each other and so, once again, Arabella took it upon herself to act.
She took Silas’ hands and waited for his full attention to be on her, "Shall we give them a moment?"
He did not complain and stood up, hand still grasping Arabella’s. The two of them made their way out of that pocket then through the long and twisted corridors leading out of the caverns where Cynric and a group of wolves hung around a blazing fire.
"So, have you shed all of your tears already?" Cynric missed no chance to tease anyone, it seemed.
Silas acted as though no one had spoken to him, but Arabella smiled sweetly, "I think for tonight, we have indeed," she nodded.
"Come and sit with us! Dinner is ready!" as if materializing out of thin air, Remus leaped and grasped her hand but did not tug, thankfully.
"Thank you! she chuckled, "That is very kind of you, but we’ve already had dinner, you know,"
"Yes, but this is real dinner!"
From his round azure eyes, she couldn’t help but throw a glance towards Silas who had shut his eyes at those words.
"That’s right! Tell’em, son!" Cynric chimed in, his grin only growing wider.
