Chapter 590: With time

Silas did not fuss or try to take the spot next to Cynric by the fire when Arabella neared him which was... Something to note.

However, when the vampire went for the seat next to his wife, a small tornado rushed by his legs and clung to her arm as soon as she settled down.

Remus laid his head on her and just faced the fire with a clear and easy smile.

"It’s no squeaddle meat," Cynric waved some tree bark that served as a plate for meat under her nose, "You are safe to eat it. Unless there is more than your kind cannot eat,"

"Thank you," she smiled, "I truly did have dinner. I was not saying it just to be polite,"

"Your loss," the alpha took the plate back towards himself.

He did not bother offering Silas a thing, knowing full well he only consumed blood and more importantly, only Arabella’s blood.

Wolf people were a rowdy bunch with some sparring, being loud and physical with each other nearby.

The ones seated around the fire with them all seemed busy with doings of their own.

On Cynric’s side, they ate their food and chatted about things Arabella either did not understand or cared very little to pay attention to.

On Silas’ side however, the three wolves closest to him had toned it down, muttering amongst each other and casting darkened glares his way from time to time whilst being more than aware he could hear them.

The only one that was having no fun at all faced Arabella behind the fire. Ayyura’s eyes were strictly on Cynric, her contorted features emphasized by the red hue of the crackling flames.

Arabella only took a second to look down at her arm when Remus readjusted his posture as he weighed more than a human child thus jostling her harder, though by the time she raised her gaze back, Ayyura had completely vanished.

Arabella searched everywhere for her figure but found her nowhere around them. She stopped when her eyes locked with Cynric’s.

"Looking for something?" he asked, pulling a bone he had rendered meatless out his mouth.

"Yes, I...," she looked around one more time, "I was wondering about Ayyura. From what I saw, she seems to like you quite a lot. If you were seeking a mate, why not try with her?"

In response, his brows traveled upwards as he scoffed, "Would you consider a fifteen-year-old human a suitable partner for yourself at this age?"

"No!" she shook her head profusely.

"Well, there you have your answer then," he shrugged, "Ayyura is only fifty in wolf years. In human years, that would make her a teenager,"

"That explains a lot!" Arabella’s eyes widened.

It did explain all the tantrums and lack of self-control that young wolf woman exhibited.

She kept quiet for a moment, staring at the alpha more intently until he noticed it.

"What now?" he asked, an eyebrow raised.

"What about Allegra?" her gemstones trailed towards Silas whose eyes had already narrowed at the mention of Allegra.

"What about her?" it was subtle, but the shift in his tone was more than palpable.

"What do you think of her as a... Woman?" she pursed her lips pulling them towards one side of her face.

"I had never seen such a suspicious look on you before," his eyes too had narrowed.

"Well, I am only human after all," her grin grew wide.

"I gotta say that for a human you leave quite the impression wherever you go,"

"So I was told," she struggled to shift a little with the weight of Remus glued to her side, "But my question still stands,"

"Vampires and wolves do not get along. You know that already," he looked away.

"You seem to get along with her more than well. You even share your cavern with her," she did not blink as a look of amusement consumed her entire face.

"I gave her one of the corners in the-"

"I sleep between them!" Remus chirped happily before freezing upon noting the scathing glare his father gave him.

The boy immediately cowered back behind Arabella as though she was a viable shield.

She could not for the life of her contain the smirk that completely dominated her features.

"She’s a well-mannered guest, but... I doubt she would willingly stay here if she had somewhere else to be," eventually, his face mellowed as he turned back towards the fire.

That was a confession of its own, wasn’t it?

Although the most shocking part of it all was his... Patience and respect for Allegra’s feelings.

To think that less than two months before that day, he would not have had a care in the world what she thought or felt if he had the sliver of an attraction towards her.

To say the shift in his behavior was drastic would have been an understatement.

"You’d be surprised," Arabella chuckled, "I doubt she’ll return with us tonight so... When you will find the time to, I’d say just talk to her. Regardless of what she might have done in the past. I don’t believe she has a mean bone in her body,"

"She’d still be a ticking time bomb," to her surprise, he practically murmured.

"You’ll cross that bridge when you get there," it was Silas that finally chimed in with an input.

"I don’t know of any wolf who’s tried to breed with a vampire. She wouldn’t be ripping the heads of your people when that bridge comes," Cynric tossed a thick bone into the fire pit.

"I wouldn’t abandon my sister to fend for herself at such a vulnerable moment," Silas refused to meet their eyes when speaking those words.

Still, it warmed Arabella’s heart to know he still considered her a sister.

"No one had heard of a union between a human and a vampire before us either," Arabella tilted her head and kept on smirking in Cynric’s direction, "Things change with time,"

Things did change with time indeed.

In fact, a lot had changed in such a short span of time...
