Under the vampire Lord's protection-Chapter 608: Palpable peace
Silas wasted no time and joined his wife outside in the gardens under the moon.
Though by the time he did, Allegra and that little ruffian had already made their appearances.
"I will catch you!" the boy yelled while jumping around in an attempt to get a hold of Floriel who evaded him quite easily.
"Be careful, Remus! Do not squeeze too hard when you do!" Allegra warned him.
"Yes, Mama!"
She fit that role quite well. It was hard to grasp knowing that out of his three sisters, she had always been the least tactful or warm.
"There you are!" Liriel beat everyone to the mark and greeted Silas.
"Yes, I do apologize as there was more to do today," he offered all of them a little nod.
Except for Arabella whom he kissed on the forehead.
"I do hope your day was simple," she murmured.
"As simple as it could have been," after a short look around, he added, "Grace did not join you," he half asked.
"No, she is enjoying her time with Lord Arthur for the time being. That poor thing stuck in her clutches," Katherine clicked her tongue against her palate.
"Well, look at the bright side," Allegra shrugged, "At this rate, the man will soon not only speak words but scream, beg for mercy and even run for his life,"
"He can try," Liriel shook her head, "He’ll never be fast enough to actually escape her,"
They all laughed at those words, safe for Silas of course.
In their midst, Arabella’s heartbeat was just snug, dancing up and down at the calmest of rates.
The light in her eyes seconded that thought and as for the smile on her face well... Its radiance was rivaled by no other.
"It’s been quite the kind day, I must say," Liriel stretched her arms and fluttered off Arabella’s shoulder, "But I am afraid we need to head home now,"
"So soon?" Katherine objected.
"We’ve been camping here for hours, darling," Liriel chuckled, "We need our beauty sleep too,"
After bidding everyone goodbye, the fairies went on their merry way.
"May I go play near the pond, mama?" Remus, who immediately grew bored after the departure of Floriel, settled next to Allegra and twiddled a bit of the white fabric covering her.
"Yes, but do not submerge yourself in it and do not eat the fish swimming in it either," she warned.
"Noted!"
With that, he ran for the trees surrounding the pond.
"Alright then," Arabella too stood off the ground, "We will leave you to it," she smiled at the sisters.
"Have a good night, my Lady,"
A little grimace escaped her features when that word left Allegra’s mouth to which Katherine could do but grin.
Still, Arabella dropped the subject and took Silas’ hand for both to wander closer to the rose hedges.
"How are you feeling tonight?" he asked.
"Much better. The cramps are no longer a bother," she nodded.
"And do you feel ready for the trip tomorrow?"
The question did put a little dent in her mood, but not big enough to cause a lasting effect.
"I am not sure, but well, it’ll happen either way," her eyes followed the little waves that her gown made as her feet moved forward.
Grace and Arthur were arm in arm with him simply following as she led his figure around. The vampiress of course, was unstoppable on her train of words that kept on coming.
"Oh, my Lord, my Lady," she curtsied before the both of them then drew nearer, "I was hoping to speak with you if that is alright," she spoke quite sheepishly.
"Yes, of course," Arabella chirped, "What is it?"
"I hoped to be added on the list of invited to your father’s funeral as I...," Grace looked down momentarily then at Arthur before turning back towards Arabella, "I wish to stand by Lord Arthur’s side for as long as I can until we go our separate ways,"
Arabella needed a second to wrap her head around those words, but her smile quickly returned, "Yes, you may come to my father’s funeral, Grace,"
"Thank you," she curtsied again, "I shall travel by night, with mother,"
The vampiress took off to stand by Arthur again, leaving Silas and Arabella in their spots.
"She’s been quite lively around him," he said, "Well, more than usual that is,"
"That is not a bad thing, I believe,"
"Yes, but she has grown attached to him," he looked back at his sister while walking, "Grace will have a hard time getting over it when he finally leaves,"
"It’s not like he will vanish," Arabella shrugged, "They can still write and visit each other,"
The night was kind, bestowing them with both fresh air and warmth. The light needn’t be mentioned.
"I saw you left the crown on its cushion," he remarked.
"You left the sword home too," her eyebrow climbed up her forehead.
"Fair point, but... I still wanted to see it on top of your head a little longer,"
"For you, I will wear it whenever you want me to," her head leaned closer towards his arm.
"That is sweet of you,"
For a while after that, they just ambled the gardens without exchanging a word. The voice of nature was too delightful to dare break. So, neither did.
From the distance, the silhouettes of Persephone and Edgar walking arm and arm became distinguishable as they too decided to enjoy each other’s company that same night and... Probably every other night they could manage to steal.
Everyone’s peace was just so palpable with each of their hearts singing beautiful tunes.
If only life could run that way forever... No hitches, no dead ends.
Then again, would they remember to be grateful for such moments if not for the hardships? They were only flawed creatures after all and even living through centuries otherwise wouldn’t matter in the face of time itself.
Still, if only those moments stretched longer than the tragedies that usually followed them so closely.
