Unexpected Marriage: She is the Sugar Mommy!-Chapter 322: Do I Really Have to Get Married?
Desmond Fairchild’s actions might not bother Seraphina Sinclair, but Fiona Dunn has always noticed them.
Every morning, even before Seraphina wakes up, Desmond is already tending to her every need, arranging everything from washing her face to brushing her teeth. He even hand-washes her clothes, fearing that the washing machine might introduce bacteria and make her unwell.
Although Chloe Irving hasn’t mentioned it, as Fiona lives in Azure Cloud Shores, she knows very well that all the meals Seraphina has eaten these days were prepared by Desmond. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even late-night snacks were never missed.
For a man to do this much for a woman, especially when the man is the busy head of the Cloudsea Group, what else could it be but love?
Despite the risk of being scolded to death by Seraphina, Fiona still felt the need to speak up for Desmond, "Seraphina, maybe you should reconsider. A biological family is better than a stepfamily. What if the stepfather you find for Jude doesn’t treat him well? You’d regret it dearly."
"Do I have to get married?" Seraphina responded coldly.
...
Fiona was left speechless by her words. Upon thinking it over, she realized it’s true; Seraphina doesn’t need to rely on any man. She can live well on her own, although Jude might feel a bit wronged without a father around. Considering Jude’s maturity, he probably doesn’t care whether he has a father’s company or not.
Just as they were talking about Desmond, Fiona felt a chill-filled gaze on her back and couldn’t help but turn around, only to see Desmond standing at the door, staring intensely at Seraphina.
Seraphina seemed oblivious, peeling an orange, without even glancing up.
Fiona, sitting between the two, found the atmosphere so awkward that she felt she was entirely unnecessary there.
"Uh, I’ve got something to take care of, so I’ll just get going." Unable to withstand Desmond’s icy stare, Fiona found an excuse to slip away.
Without lifting her head, Seraphina responded with a half-smile, "You don’t have a job or friends here in Bayside City, so going home is all you’re doing. What business could you possibly have?"
Blushing upon being called out, Fiona shouted back, "Why do you care what I’m doing? Do I have to report my actions to you? I’m leaving now!"
In moments of guilt, it’s instinctual to raise one’s voice. Seraphina saw through her but chose not to say anymore.
Considering the current situation, Fiona indeed didn’t fit in.
Seeing that Seraphina had nothing more to say, Fiona quickly picked up her bag and disappeared.
As soon as she stepped out of the ward and headed towards the hospital entrance, she saw Keith Hughes approaching with flowers in hand. Seeing him in such high spirits, Fiona knew Seraphina’s love triangle was about to get complicated.
"Professor Hughes, you’re here to see Seraphina too?" Fiona greeted warmly.
Keith raised an eyebrow, his eyes filled with amusement, "What? You just finished visiting Seraphina?"
"Yes." Fiona glanced at the blue roses in Keith’s hand and kindly advised, "Professor Hughes, Desmond Fairchild is also there. Is this really the best time for you to go over?"
"What’s wrong with it?" Keith squinted his eyes slightly, his smile deepening, "After all, he’s just an ex. He doesn’t have the right to stop me from pursuing Seraphina."
Fiona crossed her arms and gave him an affirming look, "Although I support you, didn’t you say you weren’t interested in Seraphina? When I tried to set you two up before, you acted as if you were just friends. Were you just messing with me?"
Keith smiled without explanation, "Liking someone and pursuing someone is my freedom. What? Do you want to interfere in the professor’s affairs now too?"
"I wouldn’t dare, I was just casually asking. You don’t have to take it seriously." Keith’s sly grin unsettled Fiona, making her swallow nervously. She almost forgot what a sly fox he could be.
She couldn’t afford to offend Desmond, and Keith was no pushover either. How did she dare question him? She must’ve been out of her mind.
Bidding Keith a hasty farewell, Fiona headed straight for Azure Cloud Shores.
The hospital was too dangerous, she should visit less often.
When Keith arrived at the ward, Desmond was pouring water for Seraphina.
Upon seeing Keith, Desmond couldn’t help but frown, his tone clearly unhappy, "What are you doing here?" 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Since President Fairchild is here, naturally I’m here too." Keith didn’t bother looking at Desmond’s increasingly darkened expression and instead walked over to Seraphina, presenting her the flowers himself, "Seraphina, are you feeling any better today?"
Seraphina accepted the flowers with a smile, "Thank you, senior. Didn’t you say you were busy with work? How come you have time to visit me today?"
"It’s just that a disreputable company took a few of our deals; nothing major, all sorted out now, no need to worry." Keith said, casting a meaningful glance at Desmond, as if accusing him of being that disreputable company.
"Disreputable company?" Seraphina followed Keith’s gaze to see Desmond casually peeling an apple.
Could it be that Desmond was intentionally giving Keith a hard time?
Keith sat beside Seraphina, leaving only ten centimeters between them, and he softly shook his head, eyes showing a hint of grievance, "It’s nothing; it’s already been resolved. It just took some effort, which is why I haven’t seen you the past few days. You’re not mad, are you?"
"Of course not, I’m just happy you came to see me." Being so close, Seraphina could clearly see the dark circles under Keith’s eyes and couldn’t help but feel concerned, "Even though it’s resolved, you still seem a bit tired. Why not rest at home?"
"I’m indeed quite tired, but I just couldn’t stop worrying about you." Keith said, coughing lightly, adding a touch of vulnerability to his sickly appearance.
"What’s wrong? Are you ill?" Seraphina’s brows furrowed slightly.
Keith waved it off, "It’s nothing, just a minor cold."
Desmond, who had remained silent, stood up from the side, wedging himself between the two, handing the apple to Keith and said seriously, "Since Young Master Hughes is down with a cold, you should head home and rest. I’ll take care of Seraphina, don’t worry about her."
"Thanks for your concern, President Fairchild, but I’m holding up. And when it comes to taking care of Seraphina, I can handle it myself. Isn’t it a bit inappropriate for you to be constantly visiting your ex when you have a little girlfriend waiting at home?" Keith furrowed his brows with concern, seemingly disapproving of Desmond’s evasive behavior but holding back from saying too much.
Speaking of his little girlfriend, Seraphina hadn’t forgotten, Desmond was now Nina Kerr’s man. It was indeed inappropriate for him to be so busy around her.
Just as she was about to speak up, Desmond cut in, "You seem pretty well-informed about my affairs. But doesn’t Young Master Hughes have a fiancée to worry about?"
"Fiancée?" Seraphina looked at Keith in astonishment, "Senior, have you captured the heart of your dream girl?"
