Uprising: My Life in a Video Game-Chapter 21 - : A Day in Someone Else’s Shoes
Chapter 21 - 21: A Day in Someone Else's Shoes
Journal Entry 4
Today was a weird day. I was expecting to go to school and teach those annoying kids as usual, but stepping into the class I felt the atmosphere was off.
Unfortunately, the principal as organized a program called 'Bring your Student to Home Day'. Yes, it is as weird as it sounds.
They spent three hours trying to gain approval from the parents and unluckily they did. They fooled them saying: It's a way of increasing the teacher bond and showing the children the things they can achieve with quality education.
The only thing quality I see is the fact that the school charged extra for this than they did for excursion. I wasn't even sure the true aim for this other than some extra cash.
I had to keep my mouth shut, I wouldn't want to be the twenty second teacher fired this year.
The school I worked for had a knack of sacking people who don't 'Cooperate'. So most of us remaining teachers remaining had to keep our mouth shut.
"Mark!", a middle aged voice rang out. It was steady and slightly rough. I recognized it immediately.
It was Tim. A colleague I had gotten very accustomed to. He had it worse than me. He teaches preschool kids, I can already imagine what he was going through. I teach more matured teenagers who give me enough of an headache in school.
"What do you think about the change of event?", he asked, his steady voice ringing out in the lightly dimmed hallway near the school exit.
"Not that excited about it, that's sure!", I said with a soft low sounding sigh.
"Well, I have to be off. I need to get everything ready for the long-awaited, absolutely thrilling visit—because, you know, nothing screams 'relaxing evening' like entertaining guests I didn't actually invite." I joked.
"Hahaha! That was a good one. Well I'll see you later.", Tim walked off laughing.
The school was allowing us a brief amount of time to get out houses in order for the students. I for one wasn't thrilled about it.
Getting home I looked at the mess I call a home. "It's all for the cash, it's all for the cash.", I repeated remembering the huge amount of cash I get as salary. I whooping ninety five thousand wasn't something I would miss out on.
After cleaning up, I arranged thirteen chairs for the students I have in my class and one extra in the middle for me.
The parlor is simple, with plain walls and a tiled floor. A basic sofa faces a small TV stand, with a coffee table in the center. A ceiling light hangs above, and a window with light curtains lets in natural light. The space is neat and functional and quite large, with a balcony at the far right.
I prepared some simple dishes like grilled cheese sandwiches, pancakes, udon and gimbap. I set it in the dining table at the side of the room.
Ding-dong!!
The door bell sounded. Hearing it I smiled. Where I lived was a 12 level condo and my apartment was on the 10th floor. This meant that whoever was at the door hopefully the student- had to walk through a fleet of stairs to get there. I am sure they would have barged in if not for the pin lock at the door.
"Coming..." I said trying to sound as cheerful as possible even though I wasn't. I looked at my sledgehammer and kept it in the cupboard with the rest of my supplies.
My dad was a carpenter and electrician so I had to get a lot of equipment to keep him entertained any time he visited.
I walked to the door with my shoes brushing off the door mat.
I took a deep breath and opened the door.
"Took you long enough.", the school bus driver, Mr. Zoom said. That wasn't his real name but he later stuck on him for how fast he drives. I doubt if anyone remembers is actual name.
I could see swear droplets on his and the students at the back of him head. Testament to all that stairs climbing.
'Now you no what I go through every day.' I thought with a smile.
"Sorry, I was doing some last minute redecorating." I said apologetically. Mr. Zoom was a nice guy, but also rumoured to be an informant for the principal. I wouldn't want to get on his bad side.
"No problem. I brought some boxes of food and bottles of water for y'all. It is quite a lot so you might want to keep the remaining in a store room for next time."
Next time! They better not be one or else this school may hear the last of me.
The students helped me take the boxes of food and drinks inside.
Now, I am in my house with students I don't really like a lot. I don't even know where to start from.
HYAAAAAAAAAHHH!!
Just as I was about to give an introduction I heard a loud shriek.
It was Lily, a shy and fickle female student of my class. 'Why did she shout like that?' I thought. She was on the balcony looking down at something.
I walked up to her. I stopped dead my tracks as I looked at the sight below. Horror and fear filled my eyes in an instance.

In front of me, I watched in great horror as fellow humans like myself killed and eat species of their own kind.
They launched at people, sinking their teeths into their hands, legs, chest skull. In a minute, the street turned desolate and red from all the blood spilled.
THUD! THUD!! THUD!!
A banging sound was heard at the door. Something was trying to get in.
