Chapter 59: First day at University. (3/3)

Max finally stopped walking and looked straight at Finn, expression flat and steady. He tapped Finn’s chest once with two fingers, not hard, just enough to make the point clear, then turned toward the upcoming Olivia.

" Don’t give them what they want. That’s all. Don’t serve their purpose, once you do you can never go back "

Olivia lunged at him without warning and wrapped her arms around his chest in a tight hug, nearly crashing into him with full force, Max instinctively catching her by the shoulders so she wouldn’t lose balance, while over her shoulder he noticed another girl standing a step behind, quiet and composed, red hair catching the sunlight like fire, pale skin almost glowing against it, her posture straight and confident as she stared at him boldly without looking away even once.

" This is Jeanne, Jeanne this is Max and Finn, they are from Germany and she’s from France "

Jeanne didn’t wait for the eager Finn to introduce himself, she stepped forward on her own, slow and certain, and Max finally saw how gorgeous she really was up close, the kind of presence that made people naturally give space, a proper voluptuous woman with curves exactly where they should be, firm and athletic like someone who trained regularly, not a trace of extra fat, every movement controlled and smooth.

" Jeanne d’Arc, It’s nice to meet you "

" Maximilian Karl Weber, It’s a pleasure my lady "

Her French accent was thick and elegant, words rolling softly off her tongue, she barely spoke German but somehow still sounded refined, almost noble, like she belonged to an aristocratic family, even Finn’s usual rich-kid confidence faded a little standing beside her aura.

" These are real "

" I didn’t ask... "

" I know, Just clarifying "

Max’s eyes widened slightly when she casually pointed at her breasts and said that, completely unbothered, like it was the most normal thing in the world, her blunt honesty catching him off guard more than anything else.

Her fire-red hair framed her face and her blue eyes glistened under the sun, pale skin smooth and untouched by tan like she rarely stayed outdoors, and even though she was clearly top-tier beautiful, Max only gave a small composed smile, feeling like he already had more on his plate than he could chew right now.

" So, you guys are in the Economics department? "

Max asked as he turned to look at Olivia, he wanted to take his hand back from Jeanne but she was not letting his hand go, holding it firmly, her fingers wrapped around his like a quiet lock, steady and unmoving no matter how lightly he tried to slide free.

" No, I am in here, in your department "

Jeanne answered. She was not smiling at all. She was what Max kind of wished Machina was, somewhat robotic, but Machina was more human than this person in front of him. She looked beautiful, almost AI-like beautiful, too perfect, standing straight and close without any hesitation like personal space didn’t matter to her.

" Oh... Nice, so let’s go? Finn, Olivia you go attend your class, leave your friend with us "

" Sure, Maya is waiting for me, let’s meet after the class? "

" Yes, let’s do that "

Max nodded his head, and both Olivia and Finn were looking at each other because Max and Jeanne were playing around with their hands. Max was trying to yank back his hand gently with small motions while walking but Jeanne was adamant about holding his hand, so a slow wave-like motion was happening between them, his hand pulling back while hers kept dragging it forward again, awkward and strangely intimate at the same time, enough that Finn coughed and looked away while Olivia hid a small smile. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

" Here, we are, I think you should let go of my hand now, otherwise our new classmates might have the wrong idea about us "

Max said when he reached his classroom door, the wooden door was massive, thick and old, the surface scratched and polished by decades of students pushing through it, it showed how old this university was and the legacy it carried. Olivia left them a few turns ago, Finn was just following them around quietly, and she was still holding his hand, or more like forcefully grabbing it, her fingers locked in place like she had no intention of releasing him even after they stopped walking.

" I don’t mind what others think, do you care about others? "

Jeanne didn’t let his hand go, she questioned him in return, her grip unchanged. Max, hearing her question, was a little shocked but soon shook his head, he actually didn’t care what others thought about him, people used to say he would die when he was twelve, when his foster parents wanted to adopt him many other kids were proposed to them, but they refused to listen to others, they taught him the same.

Max always remember, if there’s a drop of hope left, don’t give up

He still remembered his mother or foster mother’s teaching to this day, so when Jeanne’s innocent eyes looked at him with that weird question, he couldn’t help but feel a little nostalgic, the past flashing through his head for a second.

" I don’t care but my two girlfriends might care about it "

" You believe in polygamy? How amusing "

" You’ve two girlfriends Max? Damn!! "

Finn shrieked a little from behind, almost stumbling mid-step, while there was no reaction on Jeanne’s part, she just casually nodded her head in acceptance, still not letting go of his hand.

" You’re very pretty but that doesn’t give you this right, so let it go "

" Thank you very much, I want you "

" I am not a toy "

" I get whatever I want, my daddy gets it for me "

*CLAP*

" I can guess "

Max had to remove her hand somehow, so he used his height to his advantage and took his hand in the air. She followed along his hand and, using her strength, dangled in the air still holding him, showing her own strength, but soon she had to let his hand go, and she dropped back on the floor on her heels with a soft thud.

Max entered the class through the lower door and saw there were three white boards. They were huge and stretched almost wall to wall, clean and bright under the lights, with a small raised stage in front of them for the professor to write on. From where he stood near the bottom level, he had to slightly look up to see the rest of the room.

The seating position was not flat, it sloped upward row by row like an auditorium, each line of desks rising higher than the one below, long wooden tables fixed in place with attached chairs, leading toward the upper floor where he could see two more doors on the side, probably for labs or storage. The place smelled faintly of chalk and fresh paint, morning sunlight falling in from the tall windows and spreading across the empty seats.

Everyone looked at the three people who entered through the professor’s door. No one laughed because this was their first day as well, bags still on desks, people sitting stiff and quiet, unsure where to look. Max took a front seat, Finn wanted to sit beside him but Jeanne just looked at him without any emotion and he sighed and sat behind.
