Chapter 171: Jail is the safest place for him right now
Just as they stepped out of the car, they froze. Three cop cars drove into the street, their lights flashing and sirens blaring. There were two regular patrol cars and one black SUV with flashing lights on the roof. Han Zhan’s eyes widened in surprise. "They beat us to it. How is that possible?"
Han Xin’s expression darkened. "Let’s go back," he said, getting back into the car. Han Zhan nodded, following suit. Their car drove off just as a man stepped out of the black SUV, dressed in a leather jacket with a badge clipped to his belt. The street was now a flurry of activity, the arrival of the police adding a new layer of tension to the unfolding drama.

Xiang Yu had just gotten rid of the three troublemakers and Sister Meng when the wail of sirens pierced the air. Three cop cars screeched to a halt in front of the tattoo parlour, their lights flashing ominously. Mo Mo’s face turned pale with fear. "Boss Yu, what’s happening? They couldn’t have reported the incident that fast."
Xiang Yu shook his head seeming unbothered. "It’s not them. They wouldn’t dare report to the police. They aren’t stupid." He heard the door at the back of the store creak open and felt a surge of worry. Lian and Mei couldn’t be seen. "Li Rui, tell the girls to stay with Little Bai obediently."
Li Rui nodded and hurried to the back, intercepting Lian and Mei before they could come to the front. Two men entered the parlour, their semi-formal attire and badges giving them an air of relaxed authority. Xiang Yu forced a smile. "Good morning, officers. How may I help you?"
The one in the leather jacket sauntered over, leaning casually against the counter. His partner crouched down, inspecting the blood on the floor. He rubbed his fingertips together, then brought them to his nose, sniffing. "Special agent Lu, there is blood," he said, his gaze locking onto Xiang Yu with a menacing intensity.
Agent Lu straightened, his eyes narrowing. "Committed any murders lately?" he asked as he touched the neatly arranged tattoo aftercare pamphlets.
Xiang Yu chuckled; his voice devoid of emotion. "You must be joking. This is a tattoo parlour. Accidents happen all the time."
The two agents exchanged a glance. Agent Lu’s lips curled into a smirk. "Is that so? How about you tell us all about it over a cup of tea down at the station?"
Xiang Yu’s smile didn’t waver, but his eyes hardened. "So, you came to my tattoo parlour to waste taxpayer money on a fairly common little accident in this small business owner’s shop, is that it?" His voice dripped with sarcasm.
The agent’s smiles vanished. The one behind Agent Lu suddenly smacked his own face hard, a loud crack echoing through the room. Agent Lu’s expression darkened. "You are under arrest for assaulting an agent."
Xiang Yu’s colleagues erupted in protest, defending him vehemently. "He didn’t even touch him!" they shouted. Xiang Yu raised his hand, signalling them to stop. His calm, nonchalant attitude only infuriated Agent Lu further, especially when Xiang Yu stretched out his hands, ready to be cuffed.
"Fine, arrest me," Xiang Yu said, his tone almost bored.
Agent Lu’s face twisted with anger as he snapped the cuffs onto Xiang Yu’s wrists. "We will see how long you can keep acting smug," he growled, shoving Xiang Yu into the back seat of the black SUV.
Xiang Yu settled into the seat, a sly smile playing on his lips. He was already plotting his revenge. The door slammed shut with a bang, making the car shake. The three police cars roared to life and sped off towards the station, thirty minutes away.
As they drove off, Agent Lu glanced at the rear view mirror and saw Xiang Yu lounging in the back seat, as relaxed as if they were his chauffeurs and he was the boss. Their eyes met in the mirror, and Xiang Yu’s fierce, dark gaze was like staring into the eyes of a beast on the prowl.
Agent Lu felt a chill run down his spine as if he were the prey. Xiang Yu’s lips quirked into a sinister smile, sending shivers through Agent Lu’s body. He quickly looked away, his hands gripping the steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles turned white.
How did they know Xiang Yu had something to do with the port incident? It was because of Peng Xiu. She had discovered the same information as Han Xin and had overheard Han Xin discussing it just as she was about to bring the intel to him.
Furious that the chance to have Han Xin indebted to her had been snatched away, she decided to retaliate by tipping off her captain about Xiang Yu. She hoped they could hold him long enough to force a confession.
This was why the Bureau, which didn’t have Xiang Yu on their radar, came to arrest him by any means necessary. The plan was simple: keep Xiang Yu under pressure until he cracked.
But as Agent Lu glanced back at Xiang Yu’s calm demeanour, he couldn’t shake the feeling that they had underestimated their quarry. Xiang Yu was already plotting his next move, and the games had just begun.
As they walked into the station, the atmosphere shifted drastically. Conversations hushed, and heads turned to glance at the young, handsome man with an oppressive aura stretching his neck. His presence was magnetic, drawing the attention of everyone in the room.
One of the detectives, a man with a mischievous grin, quipped, "What is he in for? Being too stunning on the runway or breaking someone’s heart?" Xiang Yu smiled at the detective, who clutched his chest dramatically, pretending to have his heart broken. The room erupted in laughter, but Agent Lu’s glare quickly silenced them.
Agent Shen pressed the elevator button and said, "Far from it. He is a suspect in the port incident." The detectives’ laughter died down instantly, replaced by a tense silence. They watched as Xiang Yu, Agent Lu, and Agent Shen stepped into the elevator.
One of the female detectives slapped a stack of folders onto her desk and muttered, "I don’t know whether to praise him for his heroic act or for messing with the triads."
Another detective shook his head and replied, "Either way, jail is the safest place for him right now."
