Chapter 63: One is lopsided.

AN: Please remember everyone else sees Yu Yu as she, so don’t be confused with the pronouns.

After the twins were done fussing over him, Xiang Yu stood up and asked, "How do I look? Do I look like a beauty in distress?" The twins were just so fascinated seeing their master dressed like a woman. Others would see him as a gorgeous woman but what they were seeing was a handsome man squeezed into a flowy dress.

"Wait, wait one more thing," he said grabbing the oranges he had decided would give him the authentic cup size. He shamelessly shoved them down his chest and adjusted them a bit to sit well under his clothes. Satisfied, he asked, "What do you think?" his hands resting on his hips.

Lian burst out laughing while Mei pointed out, "Master, one is lopsided. It’s not even."

Xiang Yu stood in front of the bronze mirror and finally saw it. One orange looked like it was plotting its escape, while the other stood firm like a soldier on the frontlines. With a few tucks and shoves, they finally looked even but whether they would stay in place and stand the test of time was another story.

"Better?" he asked and Lian couldn’t restrain herself. She was on the floor laughing to death while Mei kicked her gently telling her to stop. Her laughter was so infectious that Xiang Yu couldn’t help but chuckle.

He recalled a time when the brothel ladies convinced him to dress like a girl once. Out of boredom, he agreed and dressed up. The ladies found it amusing and even took him out to get hawthorns while calling him little mei mei. That was one of the most memorable days of his life, but he never did it again because his mother casually said to him, "If you were a girl, it would have been great. When you come of age I would have sold you to the madam."

Just thinking about that his smile faltered. A raging storm was whirling up inside of him, but when he saw how happy the twins were, he didn’t want to spoil their mood. His rage receded, and tranquillity was restored. But this fleeting serenity was abruptly shattered as the Divine Emperor showed up, his tone serious.

"Xiang Yu," the emperor said, his voice low and urgent. "Han Xin and his army are approaching. You must meet with them before they reach the military camp."

"Pack up and let’s go," he said to the girls and the lightness in the room dissipated, replaced by a palpable tension. Their playful demeanour faded, and they immediately had their game faces on. "We need to run down the mountain immediately," he instructed, urgency lacing his words.

"Master, how about the othe-," Lian started, but he cut her off, his tone firm yet gentle.

"I have already given them instructions. Grab your coats and let’s go!" He commanded, his gaze darting to the tent as though Han Xin would walk in at any moment.

The twins glanced at one another, knowing the seriousness of the situation. They hurried to gather their cloaks, their delicate fingers trembling slightly as they fastened them around their shoulders. novelbuddy.cσ๓

Meanwhile, Xiang Yu hastily scribbled a note to Xiang Wei, instructing him to proceed with the plan as discussed. His mind raced with an inexplicable anxiety that he couldn’t understand. He always put on a brave front in front of the twins but he wasn’t immune to the feeling of anxiousness that came with this task.

As the last of the ink dried on the parchment, he folded it neatly with his seal and set it down on the table. "Let’s move!" he urged, his heart pounding with the weight of responsibility. He was like a dad trying to get the kids out of the house in time so they wouldn’t miss their flight.

He led the twins down the mountain, the frigid air biting at their faces as they plunged into the darkness. "You are going to have to run like something is chasing you," said Xiang Yu giving the twins their first acting lesson.

Lian was more than ready to get into her role. She took off running while saying, "The last one down the mountain is an idiot."

"No, you are the idiot," yelled Mei as she took off after her sister. Xiang Yu looked at these two fiercely competing for first place and chuckled. Did they mean he was the idiot if he got there last?

He soon caught up with the pair, and the three of them sprinted down the rugged path. The cold wind cut through their cheeks like icy blades but they pressed on, their breaths visible in the frigid air. To an observer, it would seem like they were truly fleeing from some unseen terror. Their expressions were a perfect mask of fear and urgency as if they were actors in a horror movie.

Branches reached out like skeletal hands, smacking their faces and scratching their skin as they ran. Xiang Yu constantly glanced back to ensure the twins were keeping up, his protective instincts overriding his own discomfort. The soil, still damp from the recent rain, clung to the hems of their clothes, but they paid it no mind, their focus solely on reaching the bottom of the mountain before Han Xin infiltrated the military camp.

As they neared the base of the mountain, Xiang Yu’s sharp eyes caught sight of a thin wire stretched across Mei’s path. His brows furrowed in concern, and without a second thought, he lunged forward, pulling her out of harm’s way. In doing so, he tripped over the wire himself, his body tumbling down the slope. The world spun around him, and he could hear the twins’ frantic cries of "Master!" as they chased after him.

Xiang Yu’s descent finally came to a halt, his body covered in mud, his once immaculate hair now tangled with leaves and twigs. He groaned, opening his eyes only to find the tip of a blade pressed against his neck. A figure clad in black loomed over him, their stance menacing and unyielding.

"How dare you?" Xiang Yu demanded, his voice steady despite the precarious situation. The figure remained silent, the blade unwavering. Xiang Yu thought he would be able to control his emotions once he laid his eyes on this person but he was wrong. It would take everything in him not to murder him on the spot. If it weren’t that he would put the twins in danger he would have done it then and there.

The twins finally caught up. "Master!" they called out simultaneously. They were ready to tackle the man threatening their master but Xiang Yu raised his hand stopping them.

His fiery gaze bore into the man standing over him, his eyes alight with a fierce intensity. The tension in the air was palpable, the smell of gunpowder strong. It was so intense that all it would take would be a spark to start a chain reaction. The pin-drop silence was broken only by the sound of another young man clad in black calling out, "General!" before glancing at Xiang Yu.
