Versatile Mage: Starting with the White Tiger Pendant-Chapter 207: Defeat, and the Will to Grow Stronger(Bonus)
Chapter 207 - 207: Defeat, and the Will to Grow Stronger(Bonus)
Lu Jun was slightly surprised upon hearing that.
Huh?! Why was Mo Fan acting so bold today? In the past, he often had the itch to bully the younger Mo Fan, snap a picture for the memories, and keep it as blackmail material for their friend group to laugh at.
Otherwise, if Mo Fan became the Evil Saint King in the future, he might not be able to beat him anymore!
Unfortunately, that cunning brat Mo Fan always avoided battles he wasn't confident in. He'd always come up with some excuse and vanish.
Lu Jun sized him up, then suddenly understood. Oh so the sky cleared, the rain stopped, and now that he's advanced to the High Tier, he thinks he's capable again.
Looks like Mo Fan probably had no idea how much progress he had made.
Heh heh heh, this is perfect. Lu Jun could only think this was probably the one and only opportunity in this life to defeat Mo Fan. Next time, the guy definitely wouldn't foolishly walk into a trap again.
At that moment, he suppressed his sinister glee. He couldn't appear too eager, or he might scare little Mo Fan off. So he put on a calm face and said, "Alright, come on up."
But Mo Fan was quite cautious and seriously said, "This is just friendly sparring between friends, don't go all out on me."
Off to the side, Zhao Manting wanted to speak up. He knew Mo Fan had just come out from closed-door training and had been out of touch for months. He was completely unaware that Lu the Butcher had recently caused another earth-shaking event.
Zhao had meant to warn him but when he accidentally caught Lu Jun's indifferent yet warning glare, he gave up. Sigh, no stopping someone rushing toward their own doom.
Then, Mo Fan swaggered up to the stage. But just then, the referee stopped him. "Hold on a moment, you're not the Chief Representative of your element."
"Oh?" Mo Fan raised an eyebrow and said, "Then who's the current Fire Element Chief?"
The referee responded, "Dongfang Lie."
"Heh, that guy?"
Mo Fan pointed to the thick-browed man lying unconscious off to the side, ready to be carried away, and sneered, "That guy gets to be Chief?"
BOOM!
The next second, he let out a cold snort. His aura surged. Behind him, a vast sea of violet flames erupted, grand and imposing. Thunder and fire wove together, engulfing the arena. The temperature soared as waves of tingling heat swept over everyone.
"This is..." The referee and audience were stunned. "Fire Element—High Tier? He's only a first-year and already High Tier?!"
They had thought Lu Jun, the once-in-a-century genius from Pearl Institute, was already impressive enough. Who would've thought someone no weaker than him would appear especially the notoriously shady and badly reputed Mo Fan.
"I can't accept this!"
Some old rivals in the crowd shouted. They might have already been Level 2 or 3 of the Mid Tier, but the Star River Vein that cost over a hundred million was still a massive barrier, with no guaranteed success.
One could say that, in this moment, Mo Fan had completely pulled ahead of everyone at Pearl Institute barely reaching the same level as Lu Jun.
"My Fire Element is High Tier. Is that good enough? This Fire Element Chief thing?"
Seeing the shocked crowd, Mo Fan stood tall and proud. Inside, he was absolutely thrilled. Finally, he could show off in public!
Heh heh heh all that hard training, what was it for? Wasn't it so he could dominate the world, have beauties in both arms, and ascend to the peak of life?
Right then, in the front row, Dean Wei of the Fire School stood up and laughed heartily, "Good! Good! Good! From now on, Mo Fan is the Fire Institute Chief."
Since the department head said it himself, the referee had no words and naturally agreed.
On the other side, Lu Jun looked at Mo Fan with surprise. Sure enough, the guy had gathered a Fire Element Spirit Seed. And judging by the aura, it seemed to be top-tier—even stronger than [Rose Flame].
Most importantly, the violent nature of thunder and fire fit Mo Fan's fiery personality and dual-element explosive magic style perfectly. He probably had some kind of ultimate move that combined them.
Lu Jun couldn't help but scrutinize Mo Fan. Ever since entering university, he hadn't paid much attention to the guy.
He hadn't expected that, without realizing it, Mo Fan had grown this strong far more powerful than his counterpart in the original timeline.
"Let's begin."
Still, Lu Jun remained calm and composed. In terms of cheating-tier talent, he was no less than anyone else.
Buzz buzz buzz!
The moment they stood on opposite sides, Lu Jun stood with his hands behind his back, unmoving like a mountain. His eyes glinted with black and red light. With a flick of his hand, he cast the Curse Element Basic Spell: Must of Fear.
A ferocious ghost head appeared out of thin air and bit down viciously on Mo Fan's skull. With a fourth-level spell combined with a Spiritual Strength Level Four domain, its power was no joke.
"Argh!" Mo Fan was still preparing his spell when pain shot through his mind. His casting was interrupted.
"As expected, Curse Element is a counter-magic... but I'm not the same anymore. All I need is one chance!"
Mo Fan's gaze turned sharp. Layers of silver ichthyosaur scales appeared on his body, climbing upward to form a majestic and regal scale-armored battle robe. The Focus Necklace on his chest glowed with deep blue light.
He clearly intended to endure the mental assault by force and unleash his destructive magic, overpowering Lu Jun in one go with a swift strike.
In the void, the green-faced, tusked ghost beast bit down on the tough silver armor—but was repelled by the combined shield of silver and deep blue, nearly dispersing into thin air.
BOOM!
In an instant, Mo Fan exploded with power. His hair flew wildly as arcs of lightning and flames wrapped around him. With a single punch, the arena shook as nine pillars of violet thunderflame shot into the sky, assaulting his opponent.
In pursuit of speed, he didn't use the still-unfamiliar Fire Element Advanced Spell [Heavenly Flame Funeral], intending instead to bombard with a continuous barrage of Intermediate Spells and drag the battle into a prolonged conflict of attrition.
This was Mo Fan's most familiar battlefield. With four elements at his disposal, alternating between Lightning and Fire was enough to exhaust Lu Jun's High-tier Water Element magic energy. Afterward, his Shadow Element would seal the victory in one fell swoop.
Mo Fan had crafted the whole script in his mind, full of confidence.
But the next second, his eyes widened as he cursed, "What the hell, Lu Jun, when did you reach Advanced-level in Curse too?! You're cheating! Old Zhao, why the hell didn't you tell me?"
Above Mo Fan's head, a gate to the underworld cracked open. Ghostly winds howled, and a terrifying curse force extinguished the nine flame pillars. The green-faced, fanged specter clawed its way out from the abyss once again. A ghostly fiend, three meters tall, emerged and latched onto him.
Sssszzzt!
The Ghost Fiend's claws pressed down on Mo Fan's shoulders, violently colliding with the azure light of the Focus Necklace and the silvery brilliance of the Fish-Dragon Armor.
Mo Fan's breath grew ragged, as if paralyzed by sleep demons. He couldn't move a muscle, helplessly watching the ghostly curse creature gnaw away at his defenses bit by bit.
Indeed, Lu Jun could invoke the Star Atlas with a single thought. The initial [Mist of Fear ] was merely the first ring of the entire Advanced Star Constellation. It seamlessly chained into [Demon Punishment], with a casting speed nearly equal to ordinary Intermediate Spells.
Under such conditions, Mo Fan's hope of suppressing his opponent with speed alone was pure fantasy.
Seeing the battle decided, Lu Jun finally revealed a mischievous smile, quickly tracing another [Demon Punishment], leaving Mo Fan no room to breathe.
"Damn it, I'm screwed. To get one-shotted like this... Lu Jun's going to mock me for an entire year,"
That was Mo Fan's final thought before fainting: "I must strive harder to grow strong!"
Moments later, the scaled armor on his body exploded with a bang. Ghostly fiends with green faces surged into the breach, severely wounding his soul. He blacked out and collapsed straight to the ground.
Lu Jun walked up, saw Mo Fan pale and unconscious, then, with great amusement, took out his phone and snapped a photo to immortalize this blackmail-worthy moment and casually posted it to his Moments.
"Second semester, sophomore year. Deep autumn. Defeated Mo Fan. Just so everyone knows."
