Void Cultivation-Chapter 201- Soul Devouring Everlasting Bird (2)
To him, even who was on the brink of death, if his Blood Devouring Fiendish Bird could kill Grey and absorb his flesh, blood and bones, alongside his cultivation base. Then all this struggle wouldn’t be in vain..
If only the old man knew that the Blood Devouring Fiendish Bird he was talking about was already being refined by the purple crystal, perhaps he would have coughed out several mouthfuls of blood and died on the spot.
However, when Grey sensed that the fifth wave of purple light was about to descend upon the bird and truly begin the refinement process, he forcibly suppressed the agony tearing through his body and flew downward.
The moment his feet touched the ground, he crossed his legs and entered a meditative state.
His eyes closed as his consciousness sank inward, plunging into his inner world, his Sea of Consciousness. Yet before fully entering a semi-conscious state, Grey deliberately left behind a thin strand of perception, spreading it across his surroundings to warn him of any sudden danger. At the same time, he issued a silent command to his shadow, instructing it to remain alert.
Only after completing these preparations did Grey completely sink into meditation.
Inside his Sea of Consciousness, a burning puddle of blood erupted with brilliant golden light. That golden radiance was fierce and tyrannical, carrying an ancient will that refused submission. Yet it was firmly suppressed by waves of deep purple light radiating from the purple crystal suspended above.
As the golden light flared, faint yet piercing cries echoed through Grey’s body, the defiant screams of a bird that refused to bow.
Even though the Blood Devouring Fiendish Bird had already died, its remaining will stubbornly resisted refinement by anyone who was not its true master.
Because of this resistance, the golden light condensed into a massive protective screen, completely enveloping the blood. The screen rapidly expanded outward until it reached a terrifying radius of more than three thousand feet, dominating nearly the entire Sea of Consciousness.
Yet even then, the purple crystal showed no mercy.
Wave after wave of purple light flooded the Sea of Consciousness, dyeing everything in an oppressive violet hue. Each wave violently collided with the golden screen, forcing it to contract—if only slightly. But every collision came at a steep cost. A tremendous amount of Grey’s spirit power was drained in an instant, leaving his soul trembling.
Time slowly passed.
In the span it took for two candle sticks to burn out, the golden screen had already shrunk from three thousand feet to two thousand. The once violently burning blood began to calm, its raging fluctuations subsiding as the puddle gradually returned to a more stable state.
However, Grey quickly discovered a terrifying balance.
If the purple crystal ceased releasing its light for even a moment, the golden screen would immediately begin to expand again, recovering its lost territory at a slow but undeniable pace.
This was why Grey had been unable to rest even for an instant.
While maintaining his meditative state, he continuously absorbed spirit energy from the surroundings, funneling it into his Spirit Perforations. The perforations refined that energy into spirit power, which was immediately devoured by the purple crystal to sustain the refinement process.
Absorb. Refine. Consume.
Again and again.
This brutal cycle continued for another two hours until the golden screen was finally forced down to a radius of one thousand feet.
By then, Grey was nearing his limit.
The rate at which the purple crystal devoured his spirit power was so overwhelming that he barely had time to recover before the next wave arrived. His body trembled violently as black blood trickled down from the corner of his mouth, staining his chin. His face was deathly pale, and even his breathing had become erratic.
Far away, the old man had long since lost consciousness from his injuries.
Yet strangely enough, he did not die.
It was as though an unseen force stubbornly refused to let his life force dissipate, continuously sustaining him with traces of spirit energy and anchoring his soul to his battered body.
Meanwhile, the divine senses that had previously locked onto the old man gradually withdrew their attention from him and shifted toward Grey.
The desire within those senses was no longer as intense as it had been earlier, but the radiant ball of fire hidden deep within Grey’s body irresistibly attracted them. Only a handful of weak divine senses remained focused on the old man, and even those were pale and insignificant compared to the terrifying presence gathering around Grey.
The only reason Grey did not react to this was because he had reached a critical stage in refining the Blood Devouring Fiendish Bird.
If his attention wavered for even a single moment, the delicate balance would collapse, and everything he had endured would be rendered meaningless.
Four hours passed in the blink of an eye.
By then, the golden screen had been compressed to a radius of only five hundred feet. Its size had diminished greatly, but its intensity had grown far more concentrated and stubborn. It was clear that claiming even a single additional foot would require tremendous effort.
Yet this was not a problem, as long as Grey could continue supplying the purple crystal with spirit power. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Time dragged on.
Finally, after a total of eight grueling hours, the golden screen surrounding the blood was reduced to a mere ten feet.
Those final ten feet were unimaginably difficult to erode.
Grey felt as though he was trying to shatter an indestructible stone using fragile glass. The sensation was so vivid that despair nearly took root in his heart, almost driving him to abandon the refinement entirely.
But Grey endured.
After spending so long bound to the purple crystal, he understood one undeniable truth, anything capable of resisting its refinement was something truly extraordinary.
With that realization firm in his mind, Grey clenched his teeth, endured the tearing pain in his soul, and continued refining the blood without hesitation.
