Chapter 32 -32: Anger!!

Shen Qinghe had practiced her swordsmanship all afternoon, still puzzled by the current plot developments. Seeing Nan Sheng arrive at the Spring Breeze Pavilion, she had a feeling that no good could come of it.

After all, the male protagonist belonged to the heroine, and Xiao Chen teaching her swordsmanship was not in line with the plot of the book, so Nan Sheng’s arrival must be to steer the story back on track, right?

“Brother Xiao really plays favorites, preferring to teach Qinghe instead of Shengsheng. Qinghe’s swordsmanship is already good enough, I even lost to her in today’s sparring. Why won’t Brother Xiao teach me to wield a sword?” Nan Sheng complained to Xiao Chen in a tone that was both coy and petulant.

Xiao Chen replied indifferently, “Qinghe is my Junior Sister, so it’s normal for me to teach her swordsmanship. You are Master Tian Yan’s closed-door disciple, learning my Master’s sword techniques wouldn’t be proper.”

Nan Sheng then clasped his arm, her voice dripping with sweetness, “Brother Xiao, just secretly teach me a few moves. Besides, Qinghe’s swordsmanship is already very good, she doesn’t need any more lessons. How about this, I’ll stay at the Spring Breeze Pavilion tonight, and you can teach me secretly after dark?”

As she spoke, her gaze drifted nonchalantly towards Shen Qinghe.

Shen Qinghe felt like an outsider, as if she was intruding on the protagonist and heroine’s romance.

She returned her sword to its sheath and said to Xiao Chen, “Big Senior Brother, that’s enough practice for me today, I’ll head back first!”

Xiao Chen, on the other hand, wished that Shen Qinghe could stay, but he knew it wasn’t realistic.

“Make sure to keep practicing rigorously when you go back,” Xiao Chen said softly.

Shen Qinghe avoided his profound gaze, nodded in agreement, and walked away without looking back.

With her hearing greatly improved from before, she could still hear Nan Sheng’s coquetting with Xiao Chen after leaving the Spring Breeze Pavilion, “She’s far away now, yet Brother Xiao keeps looking. Is Qinghe that attractive?”

Xiao Chen chuckled deeply, the humor laced with an indescribable sexiness that made Shen Qinghe’s scalp tingle with discomfort.

She quickened her pace, not wanting to overhear any more of Xiao Chen and Nan Sheng’s conversation.

As soon as Shen Qinghe was out of earshot, Nan Sheng moved closer to Xiao Chen, her lips nearly grazing his, “I want to practice swordsmanship with Brother Xiao, will you teach me?”

Xiao Chen looked at the beautiful girl in front of him, recalling the smooth touch of Shen Qinghe’s hand from earlier that afternoon and felt stirred.

He instinctively took Nan Sheng’s hand, idly playing with her delicate fingers. It seemed to be the same slippery texture, but it was still missing something.

He remembered how just touching Qinghe’s hand had set his blood boiling, making him want to devour her completely.

Nan Sheng’s heartbeat quickened with Xiao Chen’s touch, and she leaned into his embrace, “If Brother Xiao agrees to teach me, I’m willing to do anything for you.”

Xiao Chen grasped her pale chin roughly, his voice cold and suggestive, “Would you warm my bed, Shengsheng?”

Nan Sheng’s cheeks flushed with shyness as she playfully pushed his hand away, engaging in a teasing game of cat-and-mouse, “That won’t do. I belong to Brother Changsheng now.”

She understood men too well. Things that came too easily were never appreciated, especially not by someone as calculating and difficult to handle as Xiao Chen, far more complex than Yan Changsheng.

If she gave herself to Xiao Chen too readily, he would definitely not treasure her. Better to keep him yearning, always within sight but out of reach, ensuring she would never fade from his thoughts.

“You know you belong to Changsheng, so why come on to me?”

Xiao Chen quickly reverted to a stern, distant demeanor, pushing Nan Sheng away as if their previous flirtatious exchange had been nothing but her imagination.

“I didn’t come on to Brother Xiao, but I do truly wish to learn swordsmanship from you. You saw it today, I was injured by Qinghe’s sword; she was simply the better fighter. How about this—Brother Xiao, if you agree to teach me swordsmanship, I will agree to one of your requests, but only if you promise not to teach Qinghe anymore!” Nan Sheng revealed her true intentions.

Shen Qinghe’s cultivation base could not make any further breakthroughs; this woman made Shen Qinghe feel threatened.

Xiao Chen did not offer a clear response, “What I want, you can’t afford.”

It seemed Shen Qinghe had become a thorn in his side, one he must either remove or swallow; otherwise, that thorn would only fester and rot his heart.

Nan Sheng mistakenly thought he wanted her body. She pouted and glared at Xiao Chen, “Since Brother Xiao refuses to teach me, I will just stay in Brother Xiao’s Spring Breeze Pavilion and not leave!”

“Suit yourself,” Xiao Chen said indifferently.

The next morning, Shen Zhiyao saw that Shen Qinghe did not go to the Spring Breeze Pavilion and urged her, “Why aren’t you going to practice swordsmanship with Big Senior Brother?”

Shen Qinghe replied calmly, “I know all the sword techniques father taught me, and yesterday Big Senior Brother gave me some practical combat experience. I plan to ponder over it myself for the next few days.”

Seeing that Shen Qinghe had her own opinions, Shen Zhiyao did not press her further.

A few days later, she heard that Nan Sheng was sleeping at the Spring Breeze Pavilion every night and that Xiao Chen was even teaching her swordsmanship. Enraged beyond belief, Shen Zhiyao wanted to confront Xiao Chen to find out the truth.

Shen Qinghe quickly blocked her path, “Elder sister, let’s just forget about it, shall we?”

The book contained this plot as well; Xiao Chen indeed taught his father’s swordsmanship, leading to a confrontation between Shen Zhiyao and Xiao Chen with swords drawn.

The aftermath of the battle between Xiao Chen and Shen Zhiyao was Shen Zhiyao sustaining serious injuries.

Even though she knew the plot of the book, she still felt angry upon learning that Nan Sheng was learning swordsmanship from Xiao Chen, simply because Nan Sheng was at the root of Elder Shen’s comatose state.

Despite that, Xiao Chen, as Elder Shen’s disciple, still taught Nan Sheng swordsmanship, yet she was Shen Zhuo’s most beloved daughter. How could she accept this gladly?

“Qinghe, we cannot let this go! Big Senior Brother shouldn’t be doing this. Elder Shen is still in a coma, and Nan Sheng is the chief culprit. Big Senior Brother knows this and still teaches her swordsmanship; this is an act of betrayal!” Shen Zhiyao’s beautiful face twisted, “I need to ask Big Senior Brother personally if this is true!”

Shen Qinghe felt a melancholic sadness in her heart, empathizing with Shen Zhiyao’s anger, but the world they lived in was a book, and they, as sisters, were nothing but catalysts to enhance the protagonists’ affections.

How the sisters felt didn’t matter at all.

She should logically prevent Shen Zhiyao from going, to keep her from getting hurt because of it.

“Elder sister can’t go!” Shen Qinghe just intercepted Shen Zhiyao, but due to Shen Zhiyao’s much higher cultivation base, Shen Zhiyao vanished from her sight in an instant.

Rushing to the Spring Breeze Pavilion as fast as she could, Shen Qinghe found that not only were Xiao Chen and Nan Sheng there, Yan Changsheng was present too.

Of course, Shen Zhiyao was there as well.

She remembered this segment of the plot; the one who wounded Shen Zhiyao was Yan Changsheng.

So, what was so strange about that?

This was the powerful force of Mr. Plot; it seemed no matter how hard she tried, events would still unfold according to the book.

But she believed that the plot was not irreversible. Because on the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival, she stopped an important plot development, and she, who should’ve been long dead, was still very much alive.

Not waiting for Shen Zhiyao to cause trouble, Shen Qinghe already approached Xiao Chen and asked with a cold face, “Big Senior Brother, why are you teaching Nan Sheng swordsmanship?!”
