Welcome to the Innocent World-Chapter 269: Mia, Tasha & Lisa
The night sky stretched vast and endless above the island, a tapestry of twinkling stars pierced by the faint glow of the distant ocean. Alaric and I hovered high above the ground, our bodies suspended in the cool night air, locked in a silent standoff. My black coat, its purple seams glinting in the starlight, billowed around me, my dark aura pulsing steadily like a storm waiting to break. Alaric’s red aura burned across from me, his alien-like features—sharp cheekbones, faintly glowing skin—etched with a cold, murderous glare, his red eyes boring into mine with unyielding intensity.
On the island’s beaches and boardwalks, the crowd had grown, their faces tilted upward, a sea of wide eyes and open mouths catching the glint of our auras against the night sky. Whispers turned to murmurs, then swelled into cheers as they recognized me. "Zero! It’s Zero!" a voice shouted, the chant spreading like wildfire. "Zero! Zero! Zero!" The island pulsed with their faith, their voices a steady rhythm fueling my resolve.
A young woman in a sundress, standing near a beachside bar, nudged her friend, her voice tinged with excitement. "Hey, what do you think’s gonna happen up there?" she asked, shielding her eyes against the starlight as she stared at us.
Her friend, clutching a drink, shivered slightly, her eyes fixed on Alaric’s glowing form. "That alien guy looks scary," she replied, her voice low, a mix of awe and fear. "He’s got this... creepy vibe."
"Don’t worry," a guy next to them said, his tone confident as he crossed his arms, a beer bottle dangling from one hand. "Zero’s up there. He’ll protect us no matter what. He’s done it before." He nodded toward the sky, a grin spreading across his face. "That alien’s probably some bad guy, but Zero’s got this."
Nearby, around a glowing poolside at a beachfront sky line, my friends—Mia, Tasha, and Lisa—lounged in their bikinis, their drinks forgotten as they tilted their heads to watch the spectacle unfolding above. The pool’s water rippled faintly, reflecting the starlight, the faint tremors from our earlier clash still lingering in the ground.
Mia, her dark hair tied up in a messy bun, squinted at the sky, her voice curious. "Hey, feels like something big’s happening up there," she said, adjusting her bikini top as she leaned forward. "Is that... Zero?"
Tasha, sprawled on a lounge chair, nodded, her eyes gleaming with excitement. "Yeah, that’s the vigilante Zero," she said, her voice tinged with pride. "He’s out there saving the island again, I bet."
Lisa, standing by the pool’s edge, frowned slightly, her blonde hair catching the moonlight. "Wait, Austin’s been missing since this morning," she said, her tone puzzled, unaware that I was the one floating above them. "Where’d he go? I thought he’d be here with us."
Mia sighed, a small, wistful smile tugging at her lips. "Yeah, I was hoping we could all hang out by the pool again tonight," she said, her voice softening as she remembered me. "I wonder where he went."
Tasha giggled, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Oh, come on, Mia," she said, leaning back in her chair. "The way he fucked us all night was really something, wasn’t it? That guy’s got stamina for days."
Mia laughed, her cheeks flushing as she jumped up and playfully tackled Tasha, tugging at her bikini top. "Such a bitch you are!" she teased, pulling the straps loose in a quick, playful motion.
"Hey, that’s mean!" Tasha squealed, retaliating by grabbing Mia’s bikini bottoms and yanking them down, both girls collapsing into giggles by the pool, their playful tussle drawing laughs from Lisa.
The crowd around them, sipping cocktails and beers, couldn’t help but smile at their carefree antics, though some older locals shook their heads with amused disapproval.
Lisa, perched on the pool’s edge, exhaled with a dramatic sigh. "You two... when will you grow up?" she said, her voice carrying the exasperated tone of the group’s unofficial mom. She adjusted her own bikini, a sleek black number, and rolled her eyes.
"Sigh... you’re embarrassing us in front of everyone."
Mia, still giggling, splashed water at Lisa. "Oh, lighten up, Lisa!" she teased, her dark hair dripping as she pulled her bikini bottoms back up. "We’re just having fun!"
Tasha, fixing her top, grinned wickedly. "Yeah, Lisa, don’t be such a buzzkill," she said, flicking water in Lisa’s direction. "Besides, everyone’s too busy staring at the sky to care about us."
Before Lisa could respond, a *tap tap* of hurried footsteps cut through the noise. John came sprinting from the villa, his boxers slipping slightly as he skidded to a stop by the pool, his chest heaving. "Hey, did you guys see that?" he said, his voice high and desperate, his eyes wide as he pointed toward the sky.
Lisa turned to him, one eyebrow raised. "So noisy, John. What happened?" she asked, her tone calm but curious as she followed his gaze upward.
"That’s Zero!" John said, his voice cracking with excitement. "He’s fighting some guy in the sky! Look!" He jabbed his finger toward the two figures hovering above, their auras—black and red—clashing in the starlight.
Mia, wiping water from her eyes, squinted at the sky. "Yeah, we can see that," she said, pointing toward us in the distance, her voice tinged with pride. "That’s our vigilante hero up there, kicking ass like always."
John ran a hand through his messy hair, his face pale. "Yeah, but it’s scary," he said, his voice dropping. "That alien-looking guy seems so strong. And... creepy. Anything could happen up there."
Mia smiled confidently, her hands on her hips as she stepped out of the pool, water dripping down her legs. "Doesn’t matter," she said, her voice firm. "Zero will win. He always does."
Tasha nodded, climbing out of the pool to stand beside Mia, her bikini top slightly askew. "Yeah, Zero’s got this, no matter what," she said, her grin wide. "That alien doesn’t stand a chance."
Lisa tugged John’s arm, pulling him toward the pool with a playful yank. "Have some faith and sit down, will you?" she said, splashing him as he stumbled into the water with a yelp. She settled back on the pool’s edge, her eyes drifting to the back door of the villa, a small frown creasing her brow. "I wonder where Austin went," she said, her voice soft, unaware that I was the one floating above them. "He would’ve loved this view, all the action." 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
Tasha sighed, squeezing water from her hair. "Yeah, he would’ve," she said, her voice tinged with nostalgia.
