Writing Web Novels In America-Chapter 312 - 315 What Did I Do Wrong?
Chapter 312: Chapter 315 What Did I Do Wrong?
(The previous Chapter was banned, and it’s currently being heavily edited... I’ve already deliberately dropped several major revelations to try to get it approved... so frustrating!)
Inside a small villa in Tennessee, United States.
Leonard was sitting on the couch, angrily watching the television.
It wasn’t because he had any issue with the final episode of the first season of "Anomalies" that was about to air.
Rather, it was because his parents simply would not agree to let him use his vacation to attend the protest rally in Washington.
"Even for the things you love, if you’re not bold enough to speak out for them, how are you later going to discuss plot lines on Twitter with everyone?"
Despite the highly regarded Governor of Texas expressing his support for Wang the previous night, which loosened his father’s stance,
the mother, who truly held the power of speech at home, remained as steadfastly opposed as ever.
"I empathize with Wang and support him," the mother said to Leonard, her voice full of earnest concern. "Watching novels on a subscription, following the ’Anomalies’ TV show on HBO, I don’t oppose any of that."
"But going to Washington to participate in a politically charged protest is far too dangerous!"
Leonard looked at his mother’s serious, uncompromising expression, then turned to look at his father.
But his father just shrugged his shoulders, indicating that he was powerless to help, too.
He sighed, picked up the remote to switch to CBS, and prepared to add one more viewer to the audience of "Anomalies."
"I’m sorry, Mr. Wang. This is the only way I can support you."
With the conclusion of a Victoria’s Secret lingerie advertisement, and through a series of musical notes, the TV show officially began.
Following on from the last episode, this time the protagonist team brought the sea demon queen back to her homeland.
Aside from the cartoonish rendering of the little mermaid, this time all the main characters were fully engaged.
When the sea demon queen blankly gazed at the endless ocean,
the little demon princess played by Lily Collins, already wielding a screwdriver, pulled a long face, "There’s nothing here to take apart!"
At that moment, as if something sensed their arrival, another elemental sea demon surfaced on the sea.
"Eva, Eva..." She curiously looked at the sea demon queen, her face revealing a hint of glee.
"This is..." The sea demon queen paused for a moment, then turned her head toward the male protagonist.
"My guess is," the male protagonist played by Joseph Gordon, displayed that iconic ’confused’ look.
"This must be the Sea Demons’ Spiritual Collective!" ƒree𝑤ebnσvel-com
"That means... ancestor?" The sea demon queen looked toward the sea and slowly glided over.
"Eva, Eva!" The elemental sea demon, seeing a creature similar to herself, became more cheerful in voice.
"There won’t be any danger, right?" the vampire played by Naomi Watts, concernedly asked as she watched the queen dive into the water with the elemental sea demon.
"No, after all, they are the same kind." The male protagonist shook his head.
"I’m talking about her." The vampire pointed at the little demon princess who also followed the queen into the depths.
"This kid!" The male protagonist sighed, pulled out a necklace, and reluctantly dived in after them.
In a long, uninterrupted shot, the underwater buildings slowly came into view for the Leonard family of four.
"Only such an intact architectural wonder, with no living creatures in sight, could properly be called ’Waterworld’!" the father exclaimed admiringly.
The male protagonist shared the same admiration.
It must be said, Joseph Gordon’s acting was commendable; facing a green screen, he could naturally transition from astonishment to a regretful expression due to the demise of civilization.
But at that moment, there was trouble on the sea demon queen’s side.
The elemental sea demon was leading the queen through the various buildings.
Yet the queen didn’t know the purpose of some of these constructs!
"Eva, Eva!" Urgency appeared on the elemental’s face.
After a few minutes of meaningless communication, she clenched her teeth and cast a spell.
Then, the past of the sea demon race unfolded before the viewers like a scroll painting.
Due to living underwater, the development of the sea demon civilization was more challenging than that of the terrestrial races.
They had taken a long time to even begin learning to use tools—a skill quickly picked up by terrestrial races.
Afterward, houses were erected, and machinery was invented.
The sea demons lived contentedly with their lives under the sea, until one sea demon began to look up at the stars.
"What lies beyond the ocean? Is it, perhaps, more oceans?"
The sea demon began to communicate with its kind and started observing the changes in ocean currents.
At last, a group of adventure-seeking sea demons emerged, deciding to surface.
However, the process was anything but smooth. Group after group of sea demons died during their journeys, only to be reborn in the depths of the sea.
Until one day, the desire to see the outside world transformed into a collective consciousness of the species.
That’s when a Sea Demon Spiritual Collective named Eva began to appear.
Eva possessed magical powers that other sea demons did not have.
With her help, sea demons finally surfaced and saw the outside world.
"Wow, how beautiful! Twinkling, what is that?"
With one mystery solved, many more questions arose.
Perhaps curiosity is the instinct of all animals—sea demons are no exception.
They spent thousands of years developing, and eventually invented a tool that could see into the distance.
"Those glowing things, are they planets just like the one we live on?"
"Do those planets also have intelligent creatures like sea demons?"
Driven by curiosity, the sea demons became active again.
They used all their current technology to build a sea surface observation station, hoping that other species would visit.
Meanwhile, they clumsily conducted experiments to create a tool that would allow them to visit others.
And so it went for tens of thousands of years until, during Eva’s slumber, the first batch of three flying vessels was preliminarily completed.
The sea demons, buzzing with excitement, were preparing for a test flight when another piece of good news came from the surface.
"A flying device has stopped in the sky; it looks like they are waving at us!"
The news sent the sea demons into a frenzy. They sent their most respected leader, expecting to meet fellow civilized explorers.
But what met them was not a wonderful first encounter but an existential disaster for their entire species.
The eldest son, in a frenzy, launched an attack using technology far superior to that of the sea demons.
"Why have you betrayed Mother?" he demanded while sending the once eternally resurrecting, carefree sea demons to their absolute death.
This act awakened and enraged Eva, who frantically used her magical powers, trying to protect her people.
"We sea demons only want to grow and pursue civilization—what exactly did we do wrong?"
She exhausted all her power to make the three immature flying vessels escape the embrace of Mother.
For this, she did not hesitate to turn her power source, the ocean, entirely into ice.
However, technology does not advance just because the sea demons wished it to; the other two vessels crashed.
The only vessel that made it crossed the spatial barrier to arrive on Earth, making up one of the Sea Demon Queen’s fleet.
Leonard watched as Eva used her fingertips to communicate with the Queen’s forehead.
The scene reminded him of the classic moment from "E.T."
But compared to the farewell between friends, this was even more stirring.
"Children, congratulations, you have found other civilizations."
"And Eva, welcome home!"
Seeing this, Leonard thought of the website and his heart surged with emotion.
"What did we do wrong, to suffer such devastating blows?"
"Is it simply because of some inexplicable accusations?"
He said resolutely, "I’m going to Washington to support Wang Jian!"
"Uh-huh." His mother’s voice came through.
"Whether you agree or not..."
As he spoke, Leonard suddenly looked up.
"Go," his mother said, wiping the corner of her eye and smiling, "our whole family should visit Washington too."
